Overdue Talk [Closed to Paco]

This was overdue, and maybe still avoiding the issue yet, but Mia told herself she was entitled to go about this a little subtly at first. She'd managed to corner Paco and ask him for some private talk in the Sensorium. She'd set it up like a small living room with some comfy chairs.

As they entered, she plopped herself down on a recliner and stretched out, looking at the ceiling, before looking at him. "So... care to guess what I wanted to talk about?"

Paco held up his hands in surrender. "I have long ago ceased attempting to fathom the female mind," he said. "Whenever I try to answer that kind of question, I either get smacked or a look like I'm the dumbest person in the world." He leaned forward, resting his elbows on his knees. "So. Spill."

"Jaime."

She said it firmly, and let it hang in the air.

"I want to know why he's been avoiding me; and at this point, I'm pretty damn sure it's been avoiding me, not just not seeing me."

Ooooh boy. Paco leaned back in his seat and folded his hands behind his head.

"He hasn't been seeing a lot of people," he said. "He's pretty much holed up working on ways to get back home. Constantly. Which isn't to say he's not avoiding you specifically, but I don't even see him that often. As for why..." Paco thought for a moment or two, then shrugged. "I'm not sure. You're hot and you're into him, and he usually doesn't run away from that."

"It's more than that." She huffs. "Paco, I'm not trying to hype myself up, but... well, I think I'm a damn good catch. Even besides that, I know there was some chemistry with me and Jaime, even without me tackling him naked."

She opens up the recliner and then folds her arms over her chest. "We get along great, and I had no problem respecting the deal he made with his girlfriend back home. I even respected him for it. So I try being his friend, and I thought that was going well, even if I'd still totally jump him."

She turns to look at him, softening slightly. "And then there's just... nothing."

"In that case, I really don't know what's up with him," Paco said. "He doesn't usually pull that kind of crap. His mother raised him better than to just randomly be a jerk, so he's probably got a reason. A weird and completely alien to all life-kind reason."

He leaned back in his seat as well, thinking hard. While the two of them didn't exactly share a psychic connection, Paco usually could guess why Jaime was doing something, especially if it seemed like something weird and out of character for him. Loyalty to Traci he could understand, even with the deal; but Jaime would come out and tell Mia that, not avoid her. And if he's just obsessed with fixing this whole abduction mess, then Paco was going to drag him out of Stacy's innards himself. No, there had to be something else...

Did Jaime and the Sub-Visser ever talk about girls?

*SIGH*

Mia slumped, arms falling onto the arms of the chair. "I was really hoping you had more of an idea than I did... sorry, don't mean to put you in the middle." She turned her head to him.

"I just... wanna know where I stand with him, y'know?"

Paco waved a hand, dismissing her apology as he combed over his memories of what the Sub-Visser had done and said when he'd been hanging out with Jaime. Girls, girls, girls, had they talked about girls? "Don't worry about it. It's out of character for Jaime, so something screwy might be up with that."

Ah ha! They had talked about girls! Not the Sub-Visser and Jaime, but Paco and Jaime! After their more serious discussion about how much the whole Yeerk thing sucked.

...Come to think of it, it had been weird that Jaime hadn't mentioned Mia.

"Completely understandable," he assured her. "I'll whack him upside the head the next time I see him and ask what's up."

Mia shrugged. She liked Jaime, but didn't know him really well enough to make a call on in or out of character.

She smirked at Paco's offer. "Now Paco... that would be unkind. At least give him the dignity of punching him in the gut, or hitting him with your stick." She grinned.

After a brief chuckle over that, she looked at him. "So... How are you doing?"

"I only hit him with sticks when ex-Wraths of God dress him in sweater-vests, sorry," Paco joked with a wink. "But if he keeps acting weird, we'll see."

Oh geez, Mia. Not the Paco's favorite conversation topic. He lowered his arms and crossed them over his midsection. "I'm good. You know, dealing. Shit happened, it's not happening anymore, it'll all be fine."

Mia blinked. "Okay... hadn't heard about THAT incident. Remind me to ask about that some other time."

She tilted her head. "You sure?"

In case pressing the issue was bad, she thought she'd bring up something else. "Okay then... how's Kate? Haven't seen too much of her either."

"It was pretty epic." Also, when Jaime and Traci had started dating. Mia proooooobably didn't want to be asking Jaime about that, so Paco forged on in with glee. "Eclipso showed up and kidnapped the baby of a friend of ours, so we teamed up with Traci to get her back. Eclipso was kind of kicking Jaime around like a hackey-sack, and Traci couldn't rescue the baby because of this magic circle, so I jumped in. Eclipso went "blah blah, now you have to face my champion, and for my champion, I choose your best friend's secret ambition!"" He grinned. "Eclipso hadn't counted on Jaime's greatest ambition being dentistry."

"Yep, I'm sure," he said. And he was also sure he didn't want to talk about Kate. "I haven't been spending time with her either. She wanted some space." And a different boyfriend.

"Man... I know I don't have much room to talk with the freak-shows that G.A. attracts, but you guys have some WEIRD fights." Mia shakes her head slightly.

Oh boy... yeah, she just hit a nerve. That much is clear.

"I... I see." She coughs into her hand. "Wanna play some Mario Kart?" She smiles, tilting her head hopefully.

"You mean AWESOME fights," Paco said with a grin. "Ask Jaime about the coyotes with space lasers."

Okay, there hadn't been any coyotes with space lasers. But Jaime had been pretty proud of taking out that Reach ship with a truck.
