Man, you look just like I feel [Open]

Despite the uproar that had taken place only a day earlier, it was all quiet at the Susono Inn. Well... mostly quiet, anyway. It was home to some of the most stubborn crew members on the ship, almost all of whom had gotten involved in the brawl with the Kessek.

Allenby's arm had been broken. Simon had taken a hard one directly to the ribs. Zouichi would probably take a week to get back to real fighting form.

And Howard... well, it would probably take Howard a while to recover from what had happened.

Once he realized that Alan was trying to climb up, Simon stilled his hand and waited, grinning a little.

Were you pitying him, Simon? HOW DARE YOU. Alan climbed up on top of Simon's fingers, peering down at him from above.

"Hey, what's going on?" Zouichi stepped through one of the doors into the garden, sliding it shut behind him. His arm was still in a sling, but that didn't stop him from doing chores around the house. Much like Allenby, he wasn't particularly easy to let this kind of thing slow him down. And for now? It was time to weed the garden.

Pity? No, just lending a helping hand. Literally!

Zouichi's entrance got Simon's attention, and his head turned over that way to look. "Nothin' much - Alan's paying a visit."

Zouichi took a seat on the steps nearby, holding up a hand. In response, Alan flew upward, landing on Zouichi's wrist.

"Oh yeah? Thanks for looking out for him. So, how long did they say until you're back to your old fighting self?"

"Maybe a month if I'm lucky, probably more," he answered, tucking the former perch of a hand behind his head with a sigh. "What about you?"

"Me? A couple of days, probably." He moved Alan to his shoulder, fluffing the feathers at the bird's throat. "You sure Medical can't fix you up faster than that?"

Maybe Simon was more broken than he looked.

"It's just bruising that's left - the dangerous stuff got taken care of, so I'll endure the rest," he answers, face getting a bit solemn. "Doing what I did back there wouldn't mean a thing if the consequences get completely erased."

"Yeah," said Zouichi, totally not spoiling Alan at all, "But if you deal with those consequences for too long, you might miss the fireworks."

And that was the most important part!

That got a faint chuckle out of him. "Fully healed or not, I'm not planning on missing anything like that."

"Oh. Well in that case, I guess we'll have to save you a spot." Zouichi frowned a little, thinking.

"While we're on the subject, how do you usually fight people? In your robot?"

"Hey, I was brought here to fight - like hell am I gonna miss what I'm here for."

Simon nods, then sighs. "Yeah, usually. I'd like to think I was decent at going hand to hand - I'm no Allenby, but I couldn't lay a hand on those guys."

Zouichi frowned. "Well, maybe the could use something to level the playing field. Powered armor, or something to help cushion the blows..."

After all, another repeat of what had happened last time, and the residents of the Inn might be out for more than just a few weeks.

"Either that, or fight 'em from a distance..." Simon says, then makes a face. "Though if they pack that much power unarmed, no telling what kind of crap their weapons can do."

He huffs, then adjusts a bit. "Either way, I'm not going in again without Lagann at least."

Zouichi nodded. "Next time we'll be more prepared. Besides, your robot is small enough to fit in the halls. Why don't you bring it down here? You could park it in the yard."

He himself had long since moved his bike down to the Inn. Easier that way.
