Man, you look just like I feel [Open]

Despite the uproar that had taken place only a day earlier, it was all quiet at the Susono Inn. Well... mostly quiet, anyway. It was home to some of the most stubborn crew members on the ship, almost all of whom had gotten involved in the brawl with the Kessek.

Allenby's arm had been broken. Simon had taken a hard one directly to the ribs. Zouichi would probably take a week to get back to real fighting form.

And Howard... well, it would probably take Howard a while to recover from what had happened.

At least Simon's laying down on the grass instead of doing something stupid and active, like driving a mecha around or something. Which wouldn't surprise Howard, sadly.

"How's it feeling?" Howard will be the live-in medic for the three injured housemates. He knows none of the enjoy staying in the medical bay and honestly, it gives him something to do besides stare at the ceiling and quietly freak out.

He's got tea, too. A cup for both of them.

Well, when your primary inspiration went out by pushing himself after being skewered by a mech's spear...

Howard's approaching him was curious - between the attempt to leave and being out and about already after the incident, the kid had more guts than he gave himself credit for, it looks like.

"Not the most comfortable thing. Had a time and a half getting here, but I'll live."

There's a pause, and the question is flipped around - "What about you?"

Howard shrugs and puts a teacup on the ground for Simon, although if Simon's not up to the challenge of drinking a cup of tea supine Howard won't blame him - it's tricky enough without broken ribs.

"I'll live too." There's not much else he can say. "I just wanted to follow-up on your injuries. Kind of my job, since I'm a medic."

He'll get to it, it'll just take him some time to ease on up into a sitting position. He's still stubborn, after all.

Howard's answer gets a nod and a slight smile. "Good on you. Just as long as you won't tell anyone who'll come and try to drag me back to medical."

"Nah. That's one of the perks of living with a medic. You get all your care in-home." Howard sets his teacup down, too. He's shaking, has been on and off since the Punishment. "You breathing okay?"

He nods, and notices the shaking. "Still painful, but it's bearable," he answers.

A moment passes before Simon smiles a little, then lets out a light sigh before reaching over to clap Howard on the shoulder, if the boy allows it. "You've got a hell of a lot of spunk, y'know it?"

He nods. "If it gets any worse let me know ay-sap."

Howard doesn't allow it. He jerks to the side and out of the way as if avoiding an attack rather than a friendly gesture, then shakes his head. "You don't have to try and make me feel better with that kind of bullshit, Simon."

The way the movement went was rather surprising, but he lowered his hand back to his lap with a frown. "I'm not doing that, and it's the truth. Taking control of your future's an important thing, and it takes a hell of a lot of courage to take that step to let someone know you're not having any more of whatever they've set out for you."

"I ran because I'm scared." Howard's blunt and honest with that one. "I'm not like you or the other people in this Inn, man. There's this little thing called fear, and I'm starting to think your guys' brains don't recognize it."

Simon laughs a bit at that - then stops and makes a wincing face. That hurt more than he thought.

"I can't speak for Allenby and Zouichi, but I recognize fear. I used to do a lot of running away myself, to tell the truth. A lot more than I'd like to admit, really."

"Why in God's name did you stop?" Howard bites his lip and modifies that question. "How did you stop?"

"...well, in a do-or-die situation that I was trying to run away from, uh. My brother punched me in the face. Knocked some sense into me so I could see clearly."

He's quiet for a moment. "...sounds kinda dumb when I look back, but hey, it worked."

"...Yeah, the last time I got punched in the face I didn't exactly have a revelation." Howard's tone of voice pretty accurately conveys that he agrees with Simon about the dumbness of that explanation.

"Well. It's also pretty situational, and I guess it depends on who's doing the punching. It was my bro's way of letting me know that there were people depending on me to do my job and not to run away from that."
