Say What You Want [R for Cussing][Open]

Yes, Sam Winchester was still secure in his cell, sitting on his bed, still writing in John Winchester's journal as he had been for much of the time since he'd been locked up. A stack of uneaten slop trays sat outside his cell, a sign that he was still not eating. The only nourishment he would take came from the silver flask of water that sat on the floor near the head of the bed that he had refilled periodically by either Dean or whoever was in the Precinct at the time.

He'd had several visitors, many of them trying to convince him to back down, to start eating again. But each time he had refused, defiantly resisting any and all efforts to change his mind or sway him into thinking he was wrong. He wasn't wrong. He knew it.

Selene paused. She sighed. With someone else there, this would be impossible. It would look bad to give a verbal smack. Then her voice was calm and neutral again. "What I think I'm doing is trying to get this guy to realize that maybe he should think about his own mental state. Nothing wrong with wanting the Yeerk to die, after all, I would have been perfectly willing to let someone who took over my body and hurt people I care about be given the death penalty given the choice," she said. In a tone that said she knew this for a fact.

"But I found something wrong in him thinking that it's a good idea to kill himself after surviving so much and hurting his family because he's unable to face the trauma of the incident and let fear control his actions." She did get rid of the smell of food. She didn't want someone else to notice. "And it didn't seem being nice and gentle about it was going to work. Tried that and he'd just run each and everytime, like he is now." Personally, she wasn't worried about him being upset. Sometimes people needed a full mental break down to fix themselves again. It was easier to put the pieces back together then just trying to hold them together with floss.

"Which part? Though none of it is," she retorted immediately.

Stepping closer, Lyta glanced over at Sam and saw in his expression just how angry he was then turned her attention back to the girl. "He asked you to leave," she said to the girl. "I think it's best you did."

[identity profile] dreamstolights.livejournal.com 2009-07-22 11:48 pm (UTC)(link)
Selene looked at Lyta, silence for several moments, pondering her response. With another person here, it was harder to work. After all, she'd likely look like the bad guy and they'll both work against her and pushing him further into his little self justified world....or he'll feel double teamed if she agreed and become even more defiant.

She sighed, pulling her arms out from between the bars. "If you coddle him too much, he won't get any better. It'll just help his self justification for his actions that he can make us do what he wants. Kind of like you have to be careful not to spoil kids," she said in warning and looked at Sam. "Though...I really feel sorry for Dean. He'll lose his dear relative because you're too afraid to face what's really got you mad and admit that you need help. Maybe he'll accept help after you add yet another thing he's lost to the list. And hopefully the sting won't be worse when he realizes he can only blame you for your death," she said before turning and walking out.

[identity profile] lytaalex.livejournal.com 2009-07-22 11:58 pm (UTC)(link)
After hearing what the girl had said, Lyta glanced back over at Sam. He was too angry to talk to now. There was no way he would listen to her--or likely even talk to her--given how upset he was. Even she felt the sting of the girls words. Pursing her lips, she simply turned and stormed back out, intent on catching up with the girl.

"Don't think you're getting away from me that easily, missy," Lyta barked as she continued after the girl. "Dr. Grey and I didn't spend days putting his psyche back together just so you could come down here and tear it apart again with whatever the hell it is you think you were doing back there."

[identity profile] dreamstolights.livejournal.com 2009-07-23 12:10 am (UTC)(link)
Selene kept walking. "It didn't look all that well put back together," she said. "Tell me, has he admitted the real problem, or is he just saying that it's too dangerous to let the Yeerk live?"

[identity profile] lytaalex.livejournal.com 2009-07-23 12:15 am (UTC)(link)
"I don't know. I haven't spoken to him, yet," Lyta replied, still following, picking up her speed to catch up. "But whatever the heck it was you were trying to do back there sure as hell didn't bring him any closer."

[identity profile] dreamstolights.livejournal.com 2009-07-23 12:26 am (UTC)(link)
"The Yeerk surrendered. That's why we haven't killed it, right? The belief we shouldn't kill something that was willing to submit. Perfectly logical. Normal superhero and military code. But he disagrees and is deadset on killing the Yeerk, even if he has to die to prove his point. I imagine people are probably trying to convince him it's wrong to kill something that surrendered. I went for his real issues and tried to get him to not think about the Yeerk, but what he's doing if he's going to die. The thing is, he's not ready to die. Oh, he's quite willing, but he's not ready. So I brought up what he was doing if he died that had nothing to do with the Yeerk. That is messing with his reasoning that it's all right to do this. It makes him doubtful of what he's doing and people hate doubt. When they doubt something, they usually get sad, scared, angry, or some combination of those things. Him getting mad means I hit the sore spots that have absolutely nothing to do with the Yeerk and thus, a means to find a way to convince him that he shouldn't die just to make sure the Yeerk did without having to convince him that he's wrong for wanting to kill something that surrendered," Selene explained calmly.

[identity profile] lytaalex.livejournal.com 2009-07-23 01:16 am (UTC)(link)
"Really? And just how many sore spots were you planning on hitting before you quit? Exactly how far were you going to push? How long were you going to ignore his requests to be left alone?"

[identity profile] dreamstolights.livejournal.com 2009-07-23 01:18 am (UTC)(link)
Selene stopped. Then she looked at Lyta. "Answer me this, first. Are you willing to make him uncomfortable? Are you willing to upset him?" She asked calmly.

[identity profile] lytaalex.livejournal.com 2009-07-23 01:20 am (UTC)(link)
"Not if it means breaking him, no," Lyta answered resolutely.

[identity profile] dreamstolights.livejournal.com 2009-07-23 01:24 am (UTC)(link)
"And what would you call breaking him?"

[identity profile] lytaalex.livejournal.com 2009-07-23 01:27 am (UTC)(link)
"Nuh-uh," Lyta shook her head. "It's your turn now. How far were you planning on taking that?"

[identity profile] dreamstolights.livejournal.com 2009-07-23 01:40 am (UTC)(link)
Selene sighed. "You actually got me at the last thing I wanted to check," she admitted. "I wanted to see precisely what about the Yeerk scared him. The fact he had no control or the fact he was afraid he was capable of it. Or maybe something else that I would have hopefully found out."

She paused and looked away. "I was going to see how much he sympathized to when I was possessed and almost killed my best friend. I've been possessed a few times, but it was the only time I was conscious of it. I wanted to see how he reacted, to see what was it that really scared him about the Yeerk," she said, in a softer tone. "If he told me to go after that, I would have."

[identity profile] lytaalex.livejournal.com 2009-07-23 02:22 am (UTC)(link)
"All right," Lyta nodded, seeming to accept Selene's explanation. "But next time someone who is being held asks you to leave, you leave. You don't stick around and turn them into a captive audience. Do you hear me? That's not the way things work around here."

[identity profile] dreamstolights.livejournal.com 2009-07-23 02:29 am (UTC)(link)
Selene wasn't one to make promises. Mostly because she lied enough as it was, so she asked her question instead after a moment of composing herself again.

She had coped with the situation. Didn't mean it was pleasant to think about. "What do you define as broken?" She asked. "Do you count a mental breakdown as broken? Because I don't associate uncomfortable and upset with breaking someone. That's more of a 'destroy' and 'render' and other such words that make it so a person can't be helped short of a miracle."

[identity profile] lytaalex.livejournal.com 2009-07-23 02:47 am (UTC)(link)
"Yes, I count a mental breakdown," Lyta answered, taking a solitary step forward. "It took everything Jean and I had to pull him out of a catatonic state, keep him from slipping away, and piece his mind back together. We've been inside his head, we know what's in there and we have a pretty good idea of what he can take. Now, Sam Winchester has made a choice, whether you or I like it or not. It's his choice. If you use that against him and you push him to a mental breakdown that he can't handle there's no guarantee Dr. Grey or I will be able to go back in and pull him back."

She took another step forward, folding her arms across her chest.

"And if you do do that, even if we can help him, I promise you it will be the last thing you do. Because I will rip every memory you have from your skull and leave you lying comatose on the ground. Am I making myself clear?"

[identity profile] dreamstolights.livejournal.com 2009-07-23 03:17 am (UTC)(link)
Selene actually didn't look the least bit intimidated. "Are you sure you're not so worried that you won't be able to fix him you can't do what you need to? He's clearly not in his right mind. He's not rational. He's not mentally stable. If that isn't obvious to you, then I suppose I can believe your threat," Selene said. "I don't doubt you couldn't do it. I've met enough psychics, had plenty in my head too."

She crossed her arms. She didn't show the least bit of fear, but not a bit of insincerity either. She believed the threat. She knew how viable it was. She just wasn't scared. "You can't help him, if you're not willing to push him. The thing about people is they don't like change. They don't like to be wrong. To get him to not kill himself if that Yeerk is spared by that trial, you have to be willing to push him. Though, honestly, I think you should do it before hand anyway or else it's just gonna be one of those things that come back over and over again."

"But I won't break him. I won't do anything he can't come back from. If I did something so horrible, I'd encourage you to do jus-" She then paused. Then frowned.

On second thought, letting all her memories be ripped out and be put into a coma would be a very, very, very bad idea. After all, coma was a viable state for her to enter the dream dimension and she didn't want to be in the dream dimension while having no memories with how vindictive her personality is usually. Not that she was going to explain that.

"Actually, no, I'd say do something worse. I'd deserve it. But I won't do anything to break him permanently. That's one of the few promises I'm willing to make ever."

[identity profile] lytaalex.livejournal.com 2009-07-23 03:25 am (UTC)(link)
"Good. Then you won't mind me being present every time you talk to him from now on, as an observer."

[identity profile] dreamstolights.livejournal.com 2009-07-23 03:31 am (UTC)(link)
"Can you be there where it's not so obvious you're there? One on one, I'm more likely to get him to talk than if there's a known observer," Selene said and turned, starting to walk again. "I'm also bringing some of that food next time. He had a pretty good reaction when I talked about food." And when she made the smell. "If he gets hungry enough and tempted enough, it might break down his resolve and walls without having a total break down."

[identity profile] lytaalex.livejournal.com 2009-07-23 04:02 am (UTC)(link)
"If what happened back there is any indication, I'd say he's not likely to talk to you at all next time, whether I'm there or not," Lyta pointed out. "I don't know where you got your training, but it's usually best to build trust with a person before you start digging into the parts of their psyche where they don't want you. I'd say you just destroyed any chance you have of gaining that by refusing to leave when he asked.

"You disrespected him. From what I'm understanding, he asked you to leave and you pushed. He asked you to leave again and you still pushed. You say you only want to help him but what he saw, what I saw, was someone with her own agenda. I'd say you stand a snowball's chance in hell in getting him to talk to you one-on-one now. Not without someone there that he knows, someone that he respects, and someone that he trusts."

[identity profile] dreamstolights.livejournal.com 2009-07-23 04:07 am (UTC)(link)
"We'll have to see. If it does work out as you said next time, then you can be obvious," Selene said calmly. "But if I got him to really think, then I think he'll talk to me next time. If not, then that just says it's gonna be a real hard case. But like I said, I'm not gonna break him and if for some reason I manage it, then feel free to do whatever you want to me."

[identity profile] lytaalex.livejournal.com 2009-07-23 04:12 am (UTC)(link)
"Believe me, you won't get that far," Lyta warned. Turning around to head back down the corridor of the Precinct to speak to Leon about having Sam's visitor's screened more thoroughly.

[identity profile] dreamstolights.livejournal.com 2009-07-23 04:17 am (UTC)(link)
Selene glanced back and sighed. She knew she wasn't going to break Sam. She's never broken anyone before unless she wanted too. And it had been only that one time when her powers had been used to hurt others.

Still, she promised herself if she did manage it for some insane reason, to explain to the woman how very much a bad idea it was to make someone who already knew that coma people like her was trapped in the dream dimension that stripping her memories was an incredibly bad and dangerous idea.

Just in case.
