I don't know what you're going to do, but I have work to do.
People dealt with things in different ways. In Mindy's case, she had continued severing people in the cafe. The hours were rough, her sleep patterns shifted, and she had told herself to take it easy after the ejecting from the Sensoriums by Overlord Zetta. Much like a bartender though, working in the kitchens meant hearing people's conversations, and that led to the topic most people were talking about: the Daligig, the former crew and the inevitable fight for the ship. This wasn't just gossip: it was legit information, and while she could skim over Howard's really long summary, it was Allenby's that hit home. Sure, she had that dumb phobia about tech that was irritating, but she was truthful.
And that meant training time had to happen. NOW.
She didn't waste any time either. Quick to the Sensoriums, Hit Girl costume on and the simulation began ten minutes after intense push ups, stretching and a little running.
She learned something in the past few weeks: the only way to really train yourself was to push, and that push had to keep going and going and make you better. So now she was back again against the Daleks, testing her ability to dodge and run and make things fall on them. Then came that duel with Aqua, where she got much, MUCH better with a blade. Then she was back to attacking SAINTS and the hark robots, making sure there were twice as many.
But the grand finale? Shadow Zetta, unstoppable, merciless, and constantly coming at her. Even in the aftermath of broken robots and a beaten Aqua, she couldn't come close to landing a hit on shadow Zetta that mattered. Yet here she was, going at it again and again, and somehow, the audience were smug looking members of the Daligig, looking like Ceasars at a lion feeding.

Not really possible though, was it?
"I thought you had a thing for her," she said. "Don't you?"

Seems like new news to him, though there is a flicker of recognition in his eyes, but for the most part, he seems pretty surprised at even the idea of this conversation.

At this point she was going to duck any oncoming hit, which even she knew she sorta deserved.

"Cassandra's cool."
He pouted childishly, cheeks slightly pink. "I dunno what you're talking about."
Then he mumbled. "And don't call her Cassie."
no subject
"I didn't say she wasn't. And don't be dumb: you know exactly what I'm talking about, or you wouldn't even be blushing. You like her."
Mindy. Always blunt. "Why the hell not?"
no subject
"You're the one being dumb, of course I like her, she's my best friend!" A best friend who just happened to share his bed and enjoy cuddles. But anything sounded weird when you took it out of context!
His blush wasn't leaving though.
"Be-because! I call her Cassandra! Everyone else calls her Sandy!" That didn't sound silly and childish at all.
no subject
"You know I said the same stuff about Ruffnut, right? you don't think I just randomly decided to tell the world she was my girlfriend and I liked her? If that were the case, we wouldn't have had that stupid fight to begin with, remember?"
She chuckled? "Sandy? Are you fucking serious? That's a middle aged woman's name. Shit, better off just calling her Cassie." She COULD have still called her Cassandra, but she could see she was getting under his skin about this.

He covered his ears in a totally mature fashion and shook his head. "I don't wanna talk about that time! Besides, I'm not listening!"
"She likes that name! It's what she calls herself!" His face was now flushing not just from embarrassment, but anger.
He stomped his foot and turned his head away, breathing deep to calm himself down. Again, totally mature.

"Dude, think what you want. If you really want to stay friends, nothing wrong with that. But at least pay attention to the fact that you're making a bigger deal out of it than I am, and that's saying something."
no subject
He made a few strained noises and pulled a variety of facial expressions before he threw his head back, let out an expired yell and tackled her.
"I'll show you making a big deal out of it!" He threatened, grinning, apparently pushing the whole conversation to the back of his mind and putting it away with the same feelings that'd caused him to go so red.
no subject
Of course, trying to tackle her was silly when she was already waiting for him to go crazy anyway, and she wrestled him to the ground, hands behind his back. "You totally like her!"
no subject
He wriggled in her grip. "I've already told you I do! What do you want me to say?" He swung his head back hard to catch hers.
no subject
Hit Girl did narrowly avoid the headbutt though. "Tell me you like her in that way, you lying punk!"
no subject
"She's my best friend! Why wouldn't I like her? She's just cool! You're just being dumb and saying weird stuff." He squirmed a bit more, his arm becoming sore. "Will you let go yet?"
no subject
"And you're just acting like you're eight!" She said, rolling her eyes. "You know exactly which like I mean, and you're trying to avoid the subject. It's dumb!"
no subject
Denial is a hard river to cross, Mindy. Especially when you're trying to drag someone else to the other side, kicking and screaming. Literally.
"She's pretty, okay? There. That's something good about her. Can I go now? You weirdo." Hana's legs and free arm were flailing about wildly in a vain attempt to knock off Mindy.
no subject
Nah. No excuse.
"Pfft. Those reasons are a start though. If you'd have asked me about that, I might have said something like that. Maybe."
She did let him go though.

But the pebbles themselves didn't hit Hit Girl, instead it seemed a solid but invisible mass surrounding them did. The subsequent attack was like hundreds of little shots combining into one massive force.
She'd feel hundreds of tiny hands and feet trying to pull and pin her down if she was still standing, or hold her down if he'd been knocked flat. Both with surprising force. In fact, if she concentrated, she'd see exactly what was attacking her in droves.
no subject
"If you were going to be a puss about it, I would have just let you go," she said, already moving to get out of the way. "Talking is still how people communicate, right?"
no subject
The spirits buzzed like angry bees and swarmed around her, readying for another attack. But a sigh from Hana and they all just vanished, leaving only the dozens of pebbles to drop to the ground with a clatter.
"Sorry I'm too weak for you." He muttered, pushing himself up and rubbing his sore arm, sitting crossed legged on the floor.
no subject
"Oh stop sulking," she said. "I know you're a kid, but even you can use a wake up sometimes."
no subject
He smiled at her, but it was small and didn't reach his eyes.
He picked up one of the now useless pebbles and tossed it away with more venom than necessary.
no subject
"Whatever, Hana, its your choice. Let me go get Ruff so you could hang out, all right. I wasn't trying to make you emo or anything."
An apology...sort of?

"Don't go, I like hanging out with you. You're really fun."
Hana sighed and flopped onto his back.
"It's just when we were fighting back there I remembered how weak I am. I couldn't even knock you over. I'm like the crappiest fighter in the world. I'm just kinda fed up with it. Everyone else is getting stronger and I'm stuck being useless."
