A wizard's work is never done [Open]

Finding Aibghalien was never too difficult, if one simply set about the task.

Most of the time, he was doing Department business, either in his office in the Jedi Temple, which he used for research, study, and paperwork; or in the Tower of High Sorcery, where he spent a great deal of time in more practical matters.

For the most part, he had abandoned the use of his private laboratory except for certain private researches and experiments that he spoke to very people about. Instead, he encouraged people to seek him out at his more common and public haunts... and recently he had indeed been encouraging that. He'd made no secret of his intentions to propose a departmental restructuring... nor of his desire to hear feedback and input on the problem.

So if you wanted to speak to the wizard in his role as Loyal Crewmember, that was easy.

On the other hand... if one were to keep their eyes skyward in the City, eventually they would spot a blue-marked dragon swooping overheard, taking his relaxation where he found it. If one was so inclined, catching his attention was easy enough... and perhaps you might even get a word or two out of him that wasn't directly related to magic or the department, if you tried.

The sight of those familiar blue markings of Aibghalien's draconic in the far distance from out the windows of her abode was a welcome one. Putting down the crystal she had been studying for a time, the dragoness padded quickly out to the landing and leaped over the edge. Wings snapping open as she dove.

Catching the air she soared between buildings, her red markings glowing softly from her prior work as she made her way towards the very familiar elf in draconic form. Calling out in greetings as she drew closer.

He called out a greetings in return, which was really sort of a wordless bellow that seemed appropriate to greetings at ranges past normal speech.

But the distance passed quickly, and to show off, he twisted in midair to fly underneath her, belly-to-belly, before twisting a wingover to match her in midair.

"I was coming to see you," he said happily.

Celena grinned happily at his returned his greeting and twisted around to fly beneath her before performing a wing over to join her.

"You're improving that's for sure," She commented playfully as she looked across to him, dipping her head, "Thought you might be, decided to come out and meet you, haven't had the chance to stretch my wings today,"

"Well, I HAVE been practicing," he said. "I can't let you be more capable in an elven form than I am in a draconic one."

He stretched out his wings a little to put on some more altitude, at a leisurely pace that invited her to ascend with him. "I think this has spoiled me. It's so much more enjoyable than a simple Overland Flight spell. So much more vibrant."

"So I can see indeed," She dipped her head and chuckled, "A fair point indeed,"

She joined him with an easy stretch and tilt of her wings, ascending further above the city and tilting slightly on wing to draw them into a lazy turn, grinning across to him, "I am glad to have introduced you properly to such a manner of flight, there are so very few things better,"

"And of the two better things I can think of, you're one of them, so that works out splendidly," he said, matching her turn for turn with utmost satisfaction.

"I wasn't coming to see you entirely for pleasure, though. How have your latest experiments been going?"

"Quite splendidly indeed, as you are as well," She comments in reply chuckling softly and watching as he matched her turn for turn.

"But of course, it has been a busy time since the attacks. My current experiments have been meting with some success, I have been beginning the construction of the crystals required for the gateway network that shall be constructed, what of your own work?"

"Dealing with the aftermath and working on restructuring the Magic Department, since it appears I am the only damn person left on the ship who cares about it," he grumbled, though in this body it came out as a growl. "Frankly, I really really hope you have something I can do, or I'm going to blow a vein in frustration."

"You aren't the only one of that I'm sure, I'd concentrate more of my efforts towards, though as it is I am organizing infrastructure's reconstruction efforts," She commented with a glance over to him shaking her head with a chuckle, "In fact on that note, I do indeed. I have a task that both you and those of the magical department can see to,"

"At the current moment I have several locations set and ready to begin the construction of additional shelters that crew can gather at in the case of an emergency. I wish for these shelters to be protected as best they can be, both physically and magically. That's where your skills and that of the magic department at large come in,"

"Excellent!" he said, pleased to have a project to work on. "I'll see what weight I can throw around to accomplish anything on that end. You have my aid, at least... that goes without saying."

One thing he regretted about flying was that making fond physical gestures towards another was orders of magnitude more difficult than while walking. So he settled for a playful dip of his wings and a smile.

Celena cast a smile across to him at his reaction, "I'm sure you'll have little difficulty in getting others to assist, and of that I have little doubt indeed," she replies with a chuckle.

Physical gestures of affection may be harder, but that didn't stop less immediately physical ones, dipping her wings in return playfully as she sent a ripple through her markings as she drew their path back towards her tower.

He turned beside her, pleased at how innate the action had become. "Oh, you know how the Magic Department is. Chicken with its head off, if it ever had one to begin with. And without any actual authority, all I can do is ask... which rarely goes anywhere."

His ease in the air was not lost to her, it was getting far more innate to him of that she could be sure, she chuckled though, "Indeed, so it would appear, however a task like this may well give those within the department something to focus on, give them direction," she replied and mused.

It wasn't long before they'd reached her abode, with a few quick back wings she landed as gracefully as ever, padding into the atrium to give him room to land himself.

Well, it would have gone a lot quicker if he'd just relied on the reflexes his magic imbued him with instead of stubbornly learning on his own, from scratch. Still, he'd relished the challenge.

He dropped down, a little heavier -- landings, he still needed some work on, but nothing and no one was damaged, so it could have been worse. Then he folded his wings up to follow her.

Folding her wings against her sides she watched with a smile as he came into land, he still needed a bit of practice with landings but it wasn't bad she would admit. Padding over to him she brushed her cheek alongside his own in an affectionate gesture before leading him through to her workspace.

As they entered it'd be fairly easy to see that there were a few new projects amongst the previous ones, particularly batches of crystals that all seemed to be in the process of being cut to shape.

"You're up to something new," he said, even as he exchanged affections with her. As much as he reveled in her company, well, you could take the elf out of his magical studies, but you couldn't take the magical studies out of the elf. "Tell me?"

"Indeed, I am currently working on creating the ring and power crystals for a new set of portal devices that will hopefully be able to serve the crew both in and out of the bleed," she explained as she indicated the groups of crystals, "As well as constructing a few additional knowledge crystals should they be needed,"

"If you're up for it, it seems like now would be an ideal time to conduct some comparisons between my energy crystals and your types," he said as he stepped over to look at one of the crystals in mid-construction. Look but not touch, anyway -- she was one of the rare people who earned that respect from him.

"Sounds a good a time as any indeed," She dipped her head as she followed him. With a gesture she had the crystal float up off the ground, an offer to inspect it in greater detail. "Feel free,"

He spoke the command words to his ring under his breath, replacing the draconic form with an elven one -- it was, after all this time, still more natural for him to both manipulate objects and perform magic that way -- then spoke a few further words to enhance his arcane sight. Only then did he lean in to appraise the crystal thoughtfully, mind already racing.

Celena remained in her true form for the time being as she watched him, after all it was her natural form for such things just as his own elven form was his. While the crystal was still in the process of being formed towards its final purpose it already contained a portion of power and a sense of potential power that could be stored within. It was at a stage where it could be formed further towards its intended purpose as one of the key crystals that would tune and form the gateways or to one of many other different purposes.

"We ought to trade," Aibghalien mused as he examined the crystal. "You take one of mine, I take one of yours, and we'll see what each of us can do with the other. The sources of power are somewhat different, inasmuch as mine contain mebhaigl rather than pure arcane energy, which means mine react to both arcane and divine spells, albeit in different ways, whereas I would theorize yours wouldn't react to divine. Not that we have any clerics around to conduct such a study, so rather irrelevant, but nonetheless."

"Indeed, I would be quite interested in that, to see how each reacts and as to what we may do with each," She dips her head at that, "My own can be constructed and manipulated to direct the energy stored within them to a purpose, or indeed the structure of the crystal itself can be used to store information, in such manners as the knowledge crystals we both have,"

"A preselected purpose or a purpose chosen at the time of the release of energy?" He had never attempted to store information within his own crystals, but basic theory indicated that it would only be possible with a substantial number of workarounds; the energy sources weren't the same, after all.

"The crystals can be worked to a set purpose, to release their energies or to tune the energies within to a certain purpose. In other cases purpose can be broader and the energies within drawn forth by one such as myself and used for any number of purposes in lieu of my own energies," She explained as she tapped the knowledge crystal around her neck, "The energies within this are far from the raw energies that go into the creation of base crystal that is able to store the energies,"

"In the case of the knowledge crystals, while the interface is powered by the energies, much of the information that is gathered is stored in the actual structure of the crystal itself,"

"Interesting," he mused, still considering. "What are the limitations on charging, recharging, and creation?" In other words, how much experimentation could he get away with? Because he's itching to try, but hesitant to undo significant invested time and energy if these crystals did represent such. His own were, after all, a limited (if momentarily plentiful) resource.
