Staring into the eternal blackness... which isn't very black. [Open]

Oftentimes, when he had nothing better to do -- which, having failed to find any role on this ship that was suitable for him, was often indeed -- Maridian came up to the Obs Deck, sat on one of the squashy meat-couches, and simply stared out into the Bleed.

The space outside the ship seemed to have hypnotic, or at least comforting, qualities about it, for times like these were one of the rare times he took off his backpacks, his weapons, and even his armor. The heavy plate disguised the fact that, under all that thick metal and padding, the elf was more slender and wiry than a human in his shape would have been.

There on the couch, he held a massive sword in his lap, tending to its needs with whetstone and honing oil. His mace and his other sword lay beside him, next in line for the attention they deserved, and from there he would doubtless move on to the armor that sat nearby.

Quiet consideration of the space through which they traveled, with only the soft rasp of stone against -- well, whatever the blade was, it probably wasn't steel. A quite sort of meditation for a fairly loud and not usually sedate paladin.

Cook... Right, I can um, ask the castle staff for lunch. That's almost as good.

"Ha, well, Azeroth is kind of cooking-obsessed," he said with a shrug, "but for cause! Going into battle well-fed is vital to success and victory against the most fearsome foes!"

"Food was scarce where I come from so we left its preparation to people who knew what they were doing."

[seesbosscrotch]

"Ha! Not on Azeroth! We had pigs and fish and various edibles all over the place -- though let me tell you, we weren't picky about what we ate. I can still whip up some Crunchy Spider Surprise that'll knock your socks off. Perfected that recipe back in the Ghostlands when I was new and green!" he said proudly.

"Er, I'm a very strict vegetarian. A lot of the meat on my world was... Not from sources you would want to eat."

"And you say that even after I mentioned Crunch Spider Surprise." Mar laughed. "Well, on our side, the Horde, the orcs couldn't go vegetarian if they tried, the trolls are only not cannibalistic because not eating corpses was a condition of joining the Horde, the Forsaken are necrophages because they're dead themselves... frankly the only people with eating habits a human would consider normal are us sin'dorei and the Tauren."

"Yeah, Solaris did odd experiments on people then ground up those that didn't survive into meat for everyone else. Since they're the primary food producer for the cities on the ground, even if they keep them in constant war.... I don't really trust anything that wasn't grown as a plant."

"Huh. Well, that's a downright understandable position to take." The revelation wasn't horrific -- one couldn't spend much time in Undercity without becoming numb to that sort of thing -- but he could sympathize. "If it helps, on Azeroth we hunted and gathered our own food personally. So if I had a rack of ribs, I knew what boar it came from."

"That is something. Still, working with the dead that eat the dead? Isn't that kind of... Bad? I mean I know any work they did with reanimating corpses back home tended to leave them... Wrong. In terrible ways."

[seesbosscrotch]

"It's complicated, of course. Basically, the Forsaken were undead -- Scourge -- who broke free of the control of the Lich King. So at least some of them aren't incredibly evil, and we're all more or less on the same side." He sounded skeptical in the extreme, though.

"That sounds like a disaster waiting to happen.. Er sorry."

[seesbosscrotch]

Mar shrugged, completely in agreement. "Azeroth is hundreds of disasters waiting to happen. Its entire HISTORY is nothing but disasters and impending disasters. We're talking about a word that had Old Gods sealed into it so tightly you can't get them out any more. It's home to the Well of Eternity, which is so valuable an army of infinite demons pretty much does nothing other than show up to try to get it. I mean, I could go on and on..."

"It almost sounds like your world is shittier than mine."

She shakes her head a bit and lets out a breath.

"No offense intended or anything."

[seesbosscrotch]

"Oh, none taken!" he said brightly. "But it's home, what can you do?"

"Anymore? Nothing I guess. I don't know."

[seesbosscrotch]

"Pfft. No, we fight on!" he said, lifting a fist. "Heck, so many people wanted to destroy Azeroth, and I mean literally, it was only a matter of time before someone succeeded! But we'll get it back somehow!"

"I just need a target really, this lack of one... Its hard."

[seesbosscrotch]

"The lack of anything to do is irritating in the extreme, I agree," he said. "All that's left is preparing myself for when we CAN do something."

He patted the flat of his sword fondly.

"And when is that?"

[seesbosscrotch]

"Ha! You're asking the wrong guy! I don't know a thing!" he said, shrugging broadly.

She just sighs and sits down.

[seesbosscrotch]

"Sorry," he said after a moment, looking down at the sword in his hands. "I'm... not the most comforting? If I had something to cheer you up, I would!"

"Just point me at someone who needs stepping on and I'll be fine. I just hate all this waiting."

[seesbosscrotch]

"I was with you right up until the stepping-on part," he said with a teasing smile. "After all, usually I'm the stepee, not the stepper!"

"You have a lot of gear combat on your world then? I've seen guys take out low class gears on foot before. Mind you I don't pilot a low class one but..."
