Carson has found his way to the Medical section, after spending a day exploring the accessible areas of the ship, and is a bit hesitant as he walks in.

"H-Hello?"

He's feeling a wee bit out of place, but he needs to get this over with!

"Took you long enough. Did you find the map on your omnicomm?"

Howard's sitting on one of the hospital beds, legs swinging over the edge, and alternately studying his anatomy textbook and using a tongue depressor to flick tiny pills across the floor and into the garbage can. His aim isn't actually half bad.

Clearly it has been a slow day in the med bay.

"Uh. Aye, I did. I was busy ex..." He watches Howard flick the pills. "Exploring. What are you doing?"

"Studying," Howard says, totally deadpan. He could probably come up with some bull about how he's practicing trajectory or putting his age-old geometry class to the test, but honestly, he doesn't even consider Carson worth his blather. "You here to talk to Sampire?"

"Uh, if that's Dr. Samuel Henderson, then aye, I am."

Carson glanced down at his datapad to get the name, but otherwise looks toward Howard.

"He's not here right now. Just me. I don't even have a supervisor." Granted, everyone else can be called in at a moment's notice, but still. "Ready to take that job and start bossing me around?"

Carson opens his mouth to answer that, when he gets side-tracked by something. He takes a few steps in, motioning to one of the beds. "That looks familiar." He says.

And the reason he says that is the device hanging over one end of the bed. It looks as though it should move up and down over the bed, but it isn't working.

"As in 'saw it in a movie once' or 'used it before' familiar?"

[atadiscoverer]

"Used it before." Carson walks towards it, and lays a hand on the overhang. Instantly, the device seems to power up. A screen on the end of the bed lights up, displaying some words in a foreign language.

"I knew it."

"Goodie for you." Howard doesn't look thrilled. Honestly, it's not Carson's fault - he just happened to step in a minefield of 'hostile work environment' and Howard feels threatened by the new guy. Not because Carson's qualified, but because Howard has a bad track record with getting close to superiors. "What does it do?"

"This," Carson finally smiles properly since he got onto the station, "Is an Ancient bed scanner."

He's not really paying attention to Howard being a jerk, but he does turn and, still smiling, look at him. "It provides a detailed scan of the body, depending on the scan criteria."

And back to the machine. "At least it's something I know how to deal with."

Howard shrugs. "And this makes it different than our other scanners how?"

[atadiscoverer]

"Probably doesn't." Carson says, circling the machine. "But at least I can work while I learn the ropes."

"I thought you were a fancy chief medical officer. Who says you get training?"

[atadiscoverer]

Have a wee look back, there, Howard. "It still took me nearly a year to get used to the machines on Atlantis."

Carson is a man with the patience of a saint, but talking to Howard really rubs him the wrong way.

"Besides, I don't want any accidents to happen just because I was denied training." Pointed look, there.

Talking to Howard rubs everyone the wrong way. Welcome to the human race, Carson.

Howard shrugs and flicks another pill into the wastebasket. "I'm not qualified to train you, no matter how hard you glare at me. Sorry, man."

"Sorry, I was under the misconception you were." Carson turns back to examining the machine.

"Since you were fairly positive I wasn't going to get any."

[iselldrugstothecommunity]

"I'm a medic. Most of what I do is paperwork and routine follow-ups, except when I'm getting shot at, and then everyone expects me to be superman." Which is only the tip of the iceberg with his issues with Med Bay lately, as well as with Carson by association. "I have pretty much zero say in what goes on around here, so if you need training you'll need to talk to Faiza or something."

"I'll make sure to do that, thanks."

A more abrupt tone from the Scotsman, but still polite. He keeps pottering about the Ancient machine, frowning slightly as he makes sure it still works properly.

[facepunching]

Soren looked up from his datapad, obviously unimpressed. He was skinny, barely cleared 5'7", and unlike most of the people in Medical, was wearing long white mage's robes.

Also, he acted like he belonged there. Well, more than Carson, anyway. "Yes?"

"Yes, uh." Carson glances down at his datapad. "I'm Dr. Carson Beckett. I'm looking for Dr. Samuel Henderson."

[facepunching]

Ah. Another one of those scientist-types, with their prodding instruments and needles. The question was whether Carson had to glance down at that datapad to remember his own name or that of his superior.

"I haven't seen him this morning," said Soren. "But I suppose he could use the help in tracking down recalcitrant patients."

That was one of Soren's favorite jobs.

"Well, I'm here mostly to offer my help." Carson says, that hesitation evaporating, mostly, as he realises he has the right place.

"My skill is in emergency surgery, but I'll help how I can.

[facepunching]

"That is, generally, why doctors show up here," Soren said, tone dry.

He could tell this one was going to provide scintillating conversation.

[atadiscoverer]

"There are other reasons?" Carson asks, and is about to say something else, but something catches his eye.

He shifts to look around Soren at some abandoned machine in the corner. "That looks familiar."

[facepunching]

Soren looked at him disapprovingly. "Does it? It's medical equipment we risked our lives to steal from a planet of clones. Naturally, we've made no substantial profit from the theft, save a place to put our coffee mugs."

[atadiscoverer]

"Aye, it looks like..." He pauses. "May I?"

Carson knows he's seen this before...

[facepunching]

"Be my guest," said Soren, looking disinterested.

[It was discovered in the Galilee mission. I'd ask the mods if you're going to have Carson recognize it, because being able to use it may have major effects on how Medical works.]

Carson heads further into the Med bay, but, instead of heading to the device that Soren thinks, he heads towards an odd-looking medical bed. It looks as though it has a scanner over the head of the bed.

"You mean this?"

((OOC: It's all mod approved. It's not the device Soren thinks, but an Ancient Medical scanner. They'll probably have just been using it as a bed, because you need the ATA gene that Carson has to turn it on.))

Soren sighed, looking up from his datapad. "No," he said shortly. "The one with the coffee mugs on it."

"..." Carson reaches out and touches the overhang on the bed. It instantly lights up and powers up with a whirr, a screen on one edge of the bed lighting up.

"I knew it."
