To be fair, Jamie's not using traditional batteries - it was something that had been with the machine that he assumed was supposed to go along with the thing. But, as he peered at the pack, he discovered that it did, in fact, have a flat side...which he had the wrong way around. With a faint grimace, he flipped it over and snapped it into place.
"Oh. Aye, of course," he commented, doing his very best to sound for all the world as though he knew that all along. He flicked what he thought was the on switch for the machine. As luck would have it, he was right. A burst of rather loud feedback spilled out through the speakers on the front of the machine, and Jamie rather hurriedly punched a few buttons until it subsided into a soft electronic hum. After a quick apologetic look to the rest of the room, he went back to the bar to retrieve his own tankard.
"There ye are, Billy. It should be ready for ye to start singing whenever ye want to."
He lifted the tankard to his lips, hiding a faint grin in the process. Would his friend actually be willing to have a go at it?
