The journey had been fairly uneventful. The Jaffa that had flanked her as they made their way through the pyramid were about as helpful as two pieces of wood at answering Vala's questions, and equally useless at knowing how to handle her. She'd hastily grabbed food as they'd left, and none of them knew if she should be doing that or not. Vala was already testing her newly found limits, and grabbing what she could while she could. She'd even grabbed a swathe of thin gauzy material that had hung by the door and wrapped it around the slashes in her side as they'd first moved out in Sobek's wake.
But she was piecing it all together, it didn't take a genius to work out that the entire slave populace was working on Sobek's fleet. It made sense that the work would be sizeable, she had know idea how long the Goa'uld had waited in stasis for a host to come along but judging from just the undergrowth and disrepair the pyramid had been in when she and the Doctor had first ventured into its depths, it wasn't just decades.
The Al'kesh they were in was like an antiquated version of the Al'Kesh Vala knew, improvements she knew she could make rattled through her mind. Not yet, she'd suggest something in good time. One step at a time, patience was the key here. Start showing interest in his ships too soon and he'd suspect an ulterior motive. She knew that by simply rearranging the sublight engine crystals she was sure she could stop that irritating vibration though. And God it had been tempting.
Dutifully she followed like a good lo'taur when they arrived, it almost felt like a betrayal of the others and of Daniel that she hadn't attemped anything. Gaining control of the ship would have been simple, the crystal panel had been easily accessible the entire time. But haste and impulse had already seen her thwarted once. Vala would have to find patience somehow, not a virtue she was blessed with - more so after months of being kept in a cell. If anything she needed her strength fully returned anyway.
If only these people knew she thought as they stepped out into the settlement, prostrated before a parasite that cared nothing for them besides their productivity.
