Video Games [Open]

Asuka mashed at the buttons on the controller, eyes locked on the screen in front of her. After that debacle in that stupid modeling contest and then the robots, she needed time to unwind. Time where she wasn't feeling absolutely helpless or angry or pissed off. Which was hard. All she did was pilot. Or prepare in her X-Wing. But at least that gave her a purpose. Something to do to break up the monotony, so she could ignore the fact that she'd already failed one world. She shook her head.

Why was she dwelling on that? She was Asuka Langley Soryu. She had her Eva back, she had a purpose. She was invincible. And she would win.

Asuka went back to concentrating on her video game.

Asuka's grip tightened on the controller in her hands, eyes trying to bore a hole in the screen in front of her. "No. I haven't. Why would I want to?"

She was the best. She didn't need other people. She could stand on her own. And if she couldn't do that, then maybe she wasn't really worth much of anything, was she?

"I don't care about any of you."

Zouichi was sensing a pattern here. Anyway, look! He was totally not losing his patience! ~~MEDAL PLZ~~

"Well, I care. Which is why I'm going around looking for people." Although to be honest, Asuka was the only person (other than perhaps Splicer) that he was specifically seeking out. The others he saw often enough to know that he'd see them sooner rather than later.

"I'm glad you're all right."

"I didn't ask you," Asuka replied, shoulders hunched and tense. She might be good at denying her feelings or hiding behind arrogance, but she definitely didn't have a good grasp on her body language.

Deep down, she liked having someone say it. It meant she wasn't totally worthless. Not that she'd ever admit that.

"Yeah, okay." There was a brief silence from him, partially obscured by the sounds of the video game.

"So what are you playing?"

"Nothing. Just a stupid flight sim."

Her simulate fighter jet blew up another cadre of enemies in a spectacular display of aerobatics and missiles.

Did we mention explosions?

Zouichi watched for a moment. While he had an excellent set of reflexes, the last time he'd played a game with explosions, he'd ended up forgetting where he was briefly and destroying the video game. But watching wasn't liable to do that to him.

"Do you play these often?"

"Yeah. Why?"

Because she was ready to scream at him if he wanted to make a federal case out of it.

That seemed to be Asuka's reaction to a lot of things.

"No reason. You just seem unusually proficient at it."

"It's not like there's anything better to do on this stupid ship," Asuka ground out, still furiously mashing at buttons.

Or anyone to do anything with.

Hmm.

"We are in the middle of shore leave, you know. You could leave the ship, look around on the planet."

"What's the point?"

Asuka's shoulders tightened up a bit more as she hunched over her controller.

Well, she looked like she could use a massage.

"They do have a large marketplace there. Maybe you could find some extra parts for your..." What was it called again? "Eva."

"Yeah, because they're just going to have spare parts for a top-secret combat unit lying around at a garage sale! Great idea!" Asuka rolled her eyes. Although the sap did sound a bit like fun, now that she thought about it.

"Any other great ideas?"

Trying... to be... nice...

"I don't think they have any garage sales down there. However, it's likely that you or Engineering could improvise with the materials that they do have."

"The Eva is completely unique!" Asuka declared, "Some stupid resort isn't going to have spare parts."

He shrugged. "Suit yourself. There's skiing, movies, and video games down there, too, if that's the kind of thing you like."
