This will not be a relic.
A little after the Shodan attack, Mindy would learn that both Sasami and Negi would be repodded, further darkening her mood after all of the fight: no victory, nothing to be really proud of, just a good, swift win. That was life on Stacy, so be it. What was more, for all intent purposes, "Mindy" had to make sure to look broken up about the death of her father, which was obviously not a stretch. But there was something, in her estimation, that needed to be taken care of first and foremost, which was why Ruffnut would notice that there was no Mindy around the castle for the last few days. In fact, Mindy had spent that time in and out of the Juraian Royal Palace, through the permission of Starfire, of course. This was because she was cleaning out the debris those fucking robots left behind in the one place Mindy was adamant needed to be preserved: The First Tree Cafe.
Or formerly that, anyway. The sign had been done away with, with a new sign replacing it: Negi and Sasami's Diner. Granted, the inside was still a bit of a fixer upper, but the lights were working, the chairs were clean of garbage and robot entrails, and a now dusty but accomplished looking girl was busy inside, busy cooking.
Outside there was another sign: Negi and Sasami's Diner
Under New Management
Alien Burgers
Apple Pies
Soup
Ask for anything else and you will get punched in the face.
More food to be added at a date TBD.
[To Note: Splitting this post in two: for those coming into the restaurant, and Mindy going back to the castle.]

"It definitely smells good," she noted, impressed by the amount of effort she'd put into preparation. Elisa considered herself to be an excellent judge of character and she certainly seemed honest. (They didn't have anything along the lines of a health inspector on Stacy, but they did have a fairly tight knit community that had to trust each other to survive. That was enough.) "What does it taste like?"
no subject
She grinned. "And I think it tastes pretty awesome. Wanna try it?"
no subject
"That was a great sales pitch, by the way," she added.
no subject
She nodded. "I seriously need to start charging for this stuff. But I think it'll be good to make this free for people."
no subject
The slop could have been a lot worse, but it wasn't exactly full of flavour.
"I'm Elisa," she added, holding out a hand, "Elisa Maza."
no subject
And of course, made the different too.
"Hey, if its free, anyone will come, right? But thanks, its good to know my stuff is good. And my name is Mindy, Mindy Macready. Where are you from, Elisa?"
As if she didn't know.
no subject
"I'm from New York. Which you may or may not have heard of. It seems to feature in quite a few universes."
no subject
"So how are things over there, in your version? I wanna see if ours match up at all."
no subject
“It was 1996 when I left, so that really depends on what year it was for you.”
Although the existence of the clan wasn’t a secret on the ship, she’d spent so long helping to keep them hidden that it was still difficult to speak about them freely.

"It was a little later, but not a lot changed. New mayor, new bu-troubles and all, and more violence. I'm sure that's nothing new"
Except you had fucking gargoyles!!!! Mindy had to contain herself.
"Met anyone else from our neck of the woods? I'll admit even I don't know everyone."

Mindy was very young to have been so close to the ugly side of the city, though Elisa knew better than to comment on that. For one thing, it might damage their fledgling friendship. For another, there was a good chance that she was more than she seemed. A good detective didn’t pass judgements based on appearances alone and the ship must have woken her up for a reason.
"My friend Goliath is here. You'll remember him if you've met. The wings are pretty distinctive."
no subject
Oh, she would be surprised. Mindy knew, likely as much as the detective, it was important to keep appearances, and just as important that those personas were as much yourself as possible.
"The gargoyle, yeah. He's kinda hard to miss! The sad thing is,he's not the only one with wings."
no subject
"He is in my world. Have you met any of the others?"
no subject
She hadn't meant to curse, but really, what other word was there to describe it?
no subject
It was a topic that she and Goliath had discussed on more than one occasion and a major concern now it was clear that the pods where they slept were far from safe.
“… a Pegasus? Really?” That was new.
She gestured at Mindy’s cooking.
“Do you need any help?”
no subject
"More than one gargoyle huh? I must have missed that somehow. But yeah, a Pegasus. I'm not sure who else has wings, but I know that one off the bat, because she's one of the fastest things I've seen on the ship. It's sorta hard not to notice someone like that."
She smiled to herself. "If you really want, but I am the owner, so it seems weird to have the guest help ma make food."

Although probably not here, because Bronx would get through a lot of Mindy's stock if given half the chance.
"Well, just standing here and watching you work feels weird, too. I did volunteer."
And this particular MUN was born and raised in the Bronx and has no favoritism whatsoever...
Ah, just heaps of bullshit there, like Mindy didn't know.
"I'm not saying no, I'm just trying to be polite!" Mindy exclaimed, grinning. "Who am I to deny you a good day (or hour anyway)'s work? Throw on an apron and simmer this stuff, if you really want."
Of course not!
"I used to cook for my friends - the rest of Goliath's clan - all the time back in New York," she noted, pulling on an apron. "It can be therapeutic after a long day's work." A pause. "Except when Broadway tries to help, anyway."
He’d always produce a fantastic meal, but her kitchen would inevitably end up in chaos.
Re: Of course not!
"If you think you can handle these ingredients, be my guest. You gotta experiment somehow. But I hear you: with being able to do pretty much nothing on the ship, this definitely helps."
Ok, that was at least only half a lie. Progress!

It was a good job that she didn't have a problem with the seemingly unusual. A lot of people would have baulked at the idea of alien ingredients in the first place.
“I’m not used to doing nothing. I joined the security department as soon as I woke up.”
no subject
Hey, Mindy figured if you were already on the ship, the seemingly unusual was just something people said to make themselves feel better.
"I don't like it at all," Mindy said. "They want to stick me in some school here, which I get, but how's my learning in a school going to help anyone in the war?"
no subject
It was a difficult position. On one hand, Mindy was young to be on the front line and Elisa wasn't surprised that people on the ship were trying to get her to school instead. But, on the other hand, she'd been woken up for a reason. How could anyone expect her to forget what was going on around her long enough to concentrate on maths or history? It would have been more of a surprise if she hadn't wanted to fight.
no subject
Mindy, of course, knew damn well she had more to do than studying, but it was a question he wanted to know the answer to nonetheless. When it really came down to it, Mindy saw Elisa as a police officer and a damn good one at that. She'd helped the gargoyles, after all."
no subject
So did Elisa. She couldn't begin to imagine Mindy's frustration - of course she wanted to fight for her world and the people she loved - but it was better that way. Probably.
