This will not be a relic.

A little after the Shodan attack, Mindy would learn that both Sasami and Negi would be repodded, further darkening her mood after all of the fight: no victory, nothing to be really proud of, just a good, swift win. That was life on Stacy, so be it. What was more, for all intent purposes, "Mindy" had to make sure to look broken up about the death of her father, which was obviously not a stretch. But there was something, in her estimation, that needed to be taken care of first and foremost, which was why Ruffnut would notice that there was no Mindy around the castle for the last few days. In fact, Mindy had spent that time in and out of the Juraian Royal Palace, through the permission of Starfire, of course. This was because she was cleaning out the debris those fucking robots left behind in the one place Mindy was adamant needed to be preserved: The First Tree Cafe.

Or formerly that, anyway. The sign had been done away with, with a new sign replacing it: Negi and Sasami's Diner. Granted, the inside was still a bit of a fixer upper, but the lights were working, the chairs were clean of garbage and robot entrails, and a now dusty but accomplished looking girl was busy inside, busy cooking.

"Gimme a washcloth and I'll get the dust. The rest can be kicked out the door," she insisted. She was not about to take those rusty old parts in her mouth.

"Not a problem," she said making sure to give Applejack a washcloth and, for a moment, actually admiring the pony.

"Do you do this often, like, helping people fix places?"

Applejack got right to work, kicking and scuffing dirt and dust out of the ground. That was the easy part.

"It's more often than I used to. Back home, running the farm was a full time job. Now I've only got a few little trees and I've got so much time. I wish I could've been this active back home, though."

Sometimes it seemed like half her friends didn't know how to take care of themselves.

Mindy stared at the pony a moment. She wasn't really sure what to think of this, but something abut seemed sort of nice, like, noble in its way.

"You're fitting in, which isn't a bad thing, actually. But thanks. It;s been a bit of a job, doing it by myself."

Though she specifically had chosen to do it alone on purpose.

Applejack could see why. It was such a big place with so much work to do! "Can't you round up some coworkers? It might go easier with two or three."

"Maybe?" Mindy looked hesitant. "I'm not exactly the friendliest person in the world, and my friends are pretty busy. Itd be nice to get help."

"I can come by when I can," Applejack offered, "but I'll be getting busier as the trees grow. I'm sure you can get some help! Don't you have a few good friends?"

"I'll have to see who I can get," Mindy said, "But I'm sure I can convince my girlfriend, maybe Hana to help. I think he might have liked Sasami ok."

"Your...girlfriend? Your gal pal, right? Who's not Hana?"

That was a little confusing.

Gal pal? Sure, she could go with that.

"Ruffnut's her name. Trust me, when you see her, you'll notice her. Hana is a friend of ours too."

"Then go get 'em!" Applejack insisted. "You'll have everything ready lickety split."

For her part, she finished with the scrubbing and started with the kick-moving. It was rough work, but she gave it her best.

"Not today. I haven't even been home since the thing with the stupid robots. I came here straight away. It might sound sorta cowardly but I needed some time to myself."

After everything, from meeting up with those Daleks, dad getting liquefied and her rampage, she needed to be away for a little bit.

That she could understand. "The fight took a lot out of you, didn't it?"

It took a lot out of her too. More than she knew. Something was wrong with all of them.

Mindy didn't say anything for a few seconds. Then..."Yeah, you could say that. I always thought I was tough, but there are some things even I wasn't prepared to see."

She shook her head. "And what about you?" Better to NOT think about that stuff, not right now.

"Don't I know it."

Applejack bowed her head as she worked, making a satisfying crunching noise with some of the debris.

"We were hurt real bad. Had to get the medics out, and I wasn't so sure we'd make it."

"Sorry to hear that," Mindy said, and for a moment, almost wished she could tell Applejack she WAS a fighter, she was Hit Girl. But that feeling lasted all of two seconds: people did not react well to how she did shit at Hit Girl, let alone a pony who was at least enough of a pacifist not to kill things.

Some secrets were kept for good reason.

"But you did. Those robots, they weren't pushovers. I saw the myself and got out of there. You guys must be pretty resilient."

"We don't have a choice but to be. If we don't fight, it's over," Applejack said bluntly. It could be over far too soon.

"Like you would ever let that happen," Mindy said just as bluntly. "You're pretty tough, Applejack: I'd never see you letting some dumb robots get the best of you. Bet you bucked them up pretty good, huh?"

She could say it! It wasn't a curse!

"I might've. A little." Applejack pulled the modesty act as strongly as she could. Hey. It wasn't that big of a deal, she was just alive and grateful to be.

"I'm only saying that because I met your friend Rainbow Dash recently," Mindy said. "She's full of energy and she's pretty neat, but I have a feeling if she'd been a part of the battle, there would be no end to hearing about it. That's good though, in some ways: some people could use that vote of confidence."

"You met Rainbow? That sure explains things." With that pony around, Applejack was sure that life was never dull. "And you've got that right. She'd tell tales about her bouts of heroism for years."

Not that a braggart was all she was. "She really does earn it, though. She can be amazing when she wants to be."

"Yeah man, she was already going on about how fast she could fly and sh-junk like that. I would have said it was pretty far fetched, but I saw her moves on the Obs deck, she meant every word. I can say, looking at her, that was one more point for the ponies."

She nodded. "I figured as much. Might wanna make sure she doesn't get into trouble with security though. Don't know exactly how she is when it comes to rules."

By which she meant make sure Rainbow Dash didn't deliberately make trouble people would notice. She wasn't someone who loved obeying rules herself.

"Don't tell her that," Applejack gently suggested. "Her ego'll swell, and it doesn't need any more o' that."

As for the rules? "She'll follow if we're serious about it. I don't think she'd like Punishment, whatever the hay that is."

She hadn't actually bothered to look. Just the word scared her.

"Dude I won't, are you kidding," Mindy said, snickering. "I thought I hung out with some ego trippers: she'd give that Overlord guy a run for his money!"

She wouldn't beat out Zetta, but she was probably the fastest thing on the ship.

"Look, make real sure of that. I saw the punishment happen to one person. It was...something bad enough you ponies guys couldn't imagine it, and you should't have to. Just make sure she follows the rules."

If that happened to Rainbow Dash, she mind be tempted to unleash her wrath on the ship.

"Worse than dying?"

It had to be. How horrible, she could sense it. There was no choice but to follow the rules, clearly.

"We'll follow 'em, don't you worry."
