Yesterday's holiday [Semi-open]

An appetizing aroma drifted out of the kitchen of the Susono Inn this afternoon, making its way up to the second floor. Not one that was particularly familiar, for Zouichi, but one Howard might recognize from the time he'd spent before the FAYZ had cut Perdido Beach off from the rest of the world. Though it might not be Thanksgiving anywhere else in the multiverse, Howard had decided it might as well be Thanksgiving now... and he'd coached Zouichi on the basics of the holiday as he remembered them.

[First thread is for residents of the inn only, characters passing by that notice something's up can show up in the second thread]

Zouichi had spent most of the morning setting up for the surprise meal while most of the others were out and Howard, in a gesture of unusual magnanimity, had offered to share some of the food he'd been stockpiling. They'd even found a nice tablecloth to drape over the table in the main hall, upon which each of foods was set: turkey, mashed potatoes with gravy, stuffing, cranberry sauce, pumpkin bread -- even some homemade Swedish meatballs for Allenby (they weren't really a Thanksgiving food, apparently, but she'd requested them some time ago).

Of course, many of these had been canned or created from mixes -- easier to store, and much easier to make. But food was food. Now it was just time to wait for everyone else to show up.

Instead of arguing the point, Tim took another bite of food, a sort of excuse for silence. He knew when it was pointless to push a point-- and it was kind of moot in this particular situation.

Instead, he focused on the discussion of the system. "That is part of it, Howard. As much as you tend to trust your friends more than strangers, it also means you're worried about damaging that relationship. It's a similar theory to what helps with the issue of secrecy. The idea is to have workers who are professionally bound to confidentiality, as well as the lack of judgment. Having that option open can certainly be encouraging."

It's clearly not Howard's fault that Emergency Rations puffs up like a furry balloon whenever she sees a knapsack, God, Zou.

"Yeah, but who's going to enforce confidentiality? I mean, it's not like we got lawyers to sue people who spread that stuff. And what about the whole like, if you're a danger to yourself or others thing? I mean we already got Kang spreading around information whenever he feels like it, so are people accountable to the Council?"

Answer the questions, Tim. Answer all the questions. That Howard is asking for totally benign reasons. He returns his attention to his plate of food in a totally inconspicuous way.

Tim nodded. "Theoretically it will end up operating similarly to medical, yes. A very similar confidentiality. At any rate, the information shared should be more like..." He paused, thoughtfully. "A lot of it will be airing grievances, things like that. There are limits, of course, but the chances of anything needing to be 'spread around' is unlikely."

He shrugged faintly. "We are still working out the exact principles, however."
iselldrugstothecommunity: (Are you going to bet money on that?)

Howard makes an expression that can only be described as 'mischief face'. "So, um. No one ever told you guys that we don't have a confidentiality clause in Medical, right?"

Clearly, Howard's been keeping stuff confidential sheerly out of the goodness of his heart.

And Tim just chuckles. "Well, if that's the case then Medical's been doing a pretty good job of not getting people riled up," he says with a faint smirk. "So clearly they must be doing something right."
iselldrugstothecommunity: (Douchebag face.)

Howard taps his nose. "It's because we see all the dirty details of people's files, including what super powers they'd use to turn our brains into jelly if we crossed them."
battorch: ([unmasked] I'm sorry for the super ninja)

"Well, I imagine that's quite the incentive, yes," Tim replied. He nodded to Zouichi. "Though that's a fair enough point. Not everyone is inclined to divulge everything. So for all we know, even more people have brain-melting powers than we know."
iselldrugstothecommunity: (My default state is mild paranoia.)

"Cheerful. Not to mention people who could develop powers during their stay on the ship, though I think Stacy's weird time measurement is stunting our growth. The stupid ship's determined to keep my voice cracking forever."
battorch: ([tim] awkward...)

God damnit Zouichi. Stop being taller.

"I think in your case," Tim said to the tallest-and-oldest-looking one. "We should probably use a more practical count than that. Being physiologically similar."

And fortunately, Tim was perfectly happy with how he was physically and age-wise. Honest.
