Yesterday's holiday [Semi-open]
An appetizing aroma drifted out of the kitchen of the Susono Inn this afternoon, making its way up to the second floor. Not one that was particularly familiar, for Zouichi, but one Howard might recognize from the time he'd spent before the FAYZ had cut Perdido Beach off from the rest of the world. Though it might not be Thanksgiving anywhere else in the multiverse, Howard had decided it might as well be Thanksgiving now... and he'd coached Zouichi on the basics of the holiday as he remembered them.
[First thread is for residents of the inn only, characters passing by that notice something's up can show up in the second thread]
Zouichi had spent most of the morning setting up for the surprise meal while most of the others were out and Howard, in a gesture of unusual magnanimity, had offered to share some of the food he'd been stockpiling. They'd even found a nice tablecloth to drape over the table in the main hall, upon which each of foods was set: turkey, mashed potatoes with gravy, stuffing, cranberry sauce, pumpkin bread -- even some homemade Swedish meatballs for Allenby (they weren't really a Thanksgiving food, apparently, but she'd requested them some time ago).
Of course, many of these had been canned or created from mixes -- easier to store, and much easier to make. But food was food. Now it was just time to wait for everyone else to show up.

"Eh, like I said I was passing by since I had nothing better to do," he stopped briefly to take a sip of the tea, "though I just kinda wanted to see after getting a whiff of the food cooking."

"And no, I haven't find him anywhere." He sighed, maybe it was stupid for him to have hope of Jeed showing up, but he really was worried about the old bum's well being.

"You know, where I'm from that means an accountant. Maybe he needs a better title." Howard folds his arms. "You might have to explain the whole book thing to Zou here, if you haven't already. Since let's face it, your world is weird."
And yes, this is coming from the kid who comes from a place with teleporting housecats and talking coyotes. What of it?

Hi Pram, sure nice of you to jab about his hair."Yeah, it's just how they call the term," he stopped briefly to finish down his tea, "basically, like Howard said, I have a partner and we fight like those two guy I generated on the Sensoriums; a tournament for the title king."

Yeaaah, after you think about it, it's more like a heavy duty than a prize to be honest.

Not that he doesn't understand power struggles, but jeez, way to sell that idea, Ted.

"If there's an option to opt out then I would've, the idea of being crowned king is not my cup of tea."

"There isn't an option to drop out? Why not just... move away or refuse to participate?"

"The king's likely to pick strong kids ranging 3-18 years old or those from high blood families, I have no choice to refuse and I can't burn my own book to return home."
He quietly added, "I mean, yeah, I could always ask another demon to burn it but the only reason I was still in the competition was to find and protect someone."
