Screw the height restrictions

Allenby hated the Sensoriums, a fact she was willing to make known to all and sundry whenever the topic came up. They gave her the absolute creeps... one of the benefits of being ejected from Starfighter Command was that she didn't have to show up for PT in the hated chambers every morning. If she had to go in there for any reason, she could yell at Stacy for as long as she wanted before getting on with it.

Besides, why did anyone need Sensoriums for training on foot when there were so many great places in the City for it? Hell, there was everything from the Great Wall of China to a whole amusement park! And it was easy to get around the little helmeted robots that ran the place to shut down the rides. The roller coaster, for instance, made a great running track, and was damn fun to ride when she wanted a break.

So for much of the 'day' Allenby could be found either running along the rollercoaster track and doing various martial arts moves in mid-air, actually riding a ride, or sitting on one of the benches glowering (because she always made sure to spend at least half an hour a day thinking hostile thoughts at Stacy).

It's a bird! It's a plane! It's... a little boy robot coming in for a landing in the middle of Awesome World. Since his brief exploration of the park with Cedric, Atom had never spotted anyone else here. Well, until now.

As Allenby ran along the rollercoaster track, Atom moved to catch up with her. He was pretty fast for a human-looking kid whose height maxed out at about 5'. "Hi! What're you doing?"

A tremendous robot-like figure is striding through awesome world, apparently confused by it. Seeing someone run up and down the rollercoaster tracks struck him as fairly odd, even by the standards of this entirely perverse (to his mind anyway) place.

And so, the Knight stops and stares at her for a while.

All right, well. Allenby wouldn't be surprised to find Atom in the park, but here? "Whoa! I'm out here for training but what are you doin' up here, kiddo?"

When Allenby reached her final lap, she leaped up, landed on the roof of the kiosk, and stretched her arms above her head. "Whew! Too bad I don't got a stopwatch," she said to nobody in particular, and then looked around and saw the...

...wow that guy was big. Or girl. "Hey there!" she called, hopping down. "Wow, I don't think you can fit in any of the rides with that armor."

Hikari blinked, walking through Awesome World a bit with Tailmon at her side. The two of them had never been here before, so they figured it would be smart to at least look around. Maybe take a bit of a break from training now that they knew why they were able to get Tailmon to evolve to Ultimate.

The young girl looked up at the roller coaster as she saw Allenby running up and down the track. "Allenby!?" Hikari shouted. "What are you doing?"

"I rather doubt it, yes." He looks at the young lady, quizzical.

"I don't understand the point of this place. What is it?"

"It's an amusement park, of course!" Allenby laughed. She figured the name itself would show what the point was. "That thing there is a roller coaster--you sit in a car and rocket around the track really fast! And up there is the drop tower! It shoots you right to the very top and then lets go, whoosh!"

Allenby slowed to a stop at the top of the coaster, waving down at Hikari and Tailmon. "I'm just out for a run is all!" she called down, unable to help grinning at the look on the girl's face. "This thing makes an awesome track!"

In the kiosk, of course, the robot that operated the ride was looking as put out as a non-sentient utility 'bot could at the fact that someone was using the ride in a completely unintended and unsafe way.

"I fail to see the point of all of this. I suppose it is some sort of place that is to be enjoyed primarily by unmodified humans then?"

His augmitters give little idea of his mood, the vox-scrubbers and the static interference of the sound making it very washed out and metallic. His stance isn't aggressive, or passive, he simply stands in the park as though he owns it, or at the very least fears nothing within it.

"But what if the ride gets turned on by accident?" Hikari asked. "Or if you trip on a loose part of it and fall?"

She was just worried about you Allenby, that's all.

Tailmon sighed. "She probably knows what she's doing Hikari. Besides, it's not like we can talk her down from anything anyway."

What the hell was she doing on the rollertrack. Lash just STARED.

That particular phrase pulled Allenby up short, and the grin dropped off her face. She put one hand on her hip, looking him up and down. "Well, that depends on what you mean by modified and unmodified," she said. Was that a human in there, then?

"Naw, the robots are pretty good about that. They wig out about the safety every time I come up here." Wait, maybe that wasn't especially reassuring? But it was true! The safety systems were really good.

But she jumped down anyway to put Hikari's mind at ease, and anyway it was easier to have a conversation on ground level. "Honestly, fighters on my Earth do stuff like that all the time. It ain't a big deal."

Oh, hey, was that a mobile afro walking around the park? Allenby winked and waved cheekily at Lash as she came around the bend in the track.

"I am a genehanced human, known as an Astartes. I am too large for these rides."

He clangs a hand off his breastplate for emphasis.

Howard is actively trying to dismantle a carousel. Because that is the appropriate response to a theme park. Also because he wants the pony with the stripey mane in the Warehouse for some project or other.

He gives Allenby a little wave as she passes. He's seen her on the Inn grounds but, surprisingly, hasn't had the chance to talk to her yet. "Hey. What's up?"

THE BEST AFRO as far as Lash was concerned.

"YOU'RE KIDDING RIGHT?" she yelled out from her position. "YOU KNOW YOU'RE SUPPOSED TO USE A CART TO GO AROUND?"

Allenby don't be that stupid.

Hikari blinked as she saw Allenby jump down like that, her eyes widening once she realized just what the older girl was doing. "Allenby! What are..."

Wait, she was fine? How... how could she manage to do that?

"But... that's a pretty high jump," she said. "I though people in your world didn't have superpowers."

"No kiddin'." Allenby looked him up and down again, wondering just how tall he was. Well over two meters, that was for sure. "That sucks... I've been modified, but it didn't change how I look at all," she said, holding out her hands and studying them. "Are Astartes some kinda supersoldier where you're from?"

Allenby had noticed too late the look of shock on Hikari's face... ah... whoops. Jumping around like a flea seemed so natural to her that even after all her time on the ship, it had never quite sunk in that other people would find it weird. "Sorry, I didn't mean to freak you out. It's not really a superpower," she explained. "I've just had a lot of special training so that I can do that kind of thing."

She grinned. "Not everyone on my Earth can do it, but anyone who's a Gundam Fighter can. It's a matter of hard work and spirit!"

"WHAT'S THE POINT WHEN I'M FASTER ON MY OWN?" Allenby yelled back, giving Lash a thumbs-up. Okay, that one might be an exaggeration but who cares, really? Not anyone named Allenby Beardsley, that's for sure!

"And how were you modified, then?" He looks down at her, his body language betraying more interest than he might normally take in a mortal.

"Oh, hey there!" Allenby said, who had... actually been on her way to the carousel, which was so corny it was hard not to like it. She recognized the guy too. "Howard, right?"

Then she frowned. "...What are you doin' to the merry-go-round?"

"Well, I had treatments and stuff done so that I built up strength and stamina faster than uh--a girl normally would. Or any kid. I think there might've been some genetic things to do that," she said, thinking of the weird word that this guy had used to describe himself.

She also noticed that he hadn't answered her own question and wondered if it was some kind of secret thing. But Allenby was nosy, particularly about stuff like this. "So what kind of stuff did genehancing do to you besides make you really big?"

"Yeah. I live down the hall from you." He glances down at the screwdriver in his hand and the partially-dismantled pony. "Um. Maintenance?"
