Hydroponics was simply amazing.

It was relaxing. That was the best way Aerith could describe it. She was sure there had been plenty before her to make this observation, though. Still, it was comforted her in a way she'd needed. Even if it wasn't the planet, her planet, it still gave her a sense of peace. Despite it being an artificial environment, it was realistic and that in itself was astonishing to her.

Nanaki had mentioned the area before, but seeing it for herself was a different story. It made her forget, just for a moment, about being on a strange ship in the middle of space.

That was a nice feeling. She could see why people would spend a lot of time here.

So she wandered around, absorbing what she could, taking in all that was around her. Aerith didn't have a specific purpose - other than exploring. It certainly was a big place.

"Oh, I'm sorry!" Maxine said, once she realised why the other woman was looking around for her. She'd forgotten that not everyone would look up. Not everyone was used to having to, after all.

Maxine lowered herself, moving to float much closer to the ground, so that she wouldn't be rude. She smiled warmly though. "It's my superpower! Only it's actually from technology, really, and not so much my power I guess. I can alter winds, which means I can use them to fly, since I can carry myself on them. It's a lot of fun, actually."

"There's no need to apologize," Aerith said, walking closer to Maxine. "You're able to alter winds? That sounds amazing. Is it difficult?" The woman seemed to be completely at ease with the ability and Aerith was suitably impressed. She couldn't imagine what it would be like to just pick up and fly like that - probably exhilarating.

"It's not too difficult, no!" Maxine assured with a smile. "I mean, I'm still pretty new at it-- I only started learning about my powers and how to use them a couple of months ago, actually-- but I've been getting the hang of it! I don't have to do too much work or use too much effort or anything, so it's not so bad."

She paused, and then said, "I'm Maxine! Or Cyclone. It's nice to meet you. Are you new on the ship as well?"

"It's nice to meet you Maxine, I'm Aerith. I am new actually!" She laughed, making a sweeping hand gesture to indicate everything around them. "I was just nosing around when I found this place. It seems like all I've been doing lately is exploring, but there's a lot to see."

"Aerith's a really pretty name," Maxine said with a smile. She nodded to the latter, though, enthusiastically. "There really is a lot to see! I'm still trying to take it all in. Even just the City is so huge, I don't think I could ever possibly explore all of it. And then there's here, and all the departments... it's really amazing, honestly."

Aerith beamed at Maxine, flattered with the compliment. "Thank you! Maxine's a pretty name too."

"I haven't been to the City much. It did look pretty intimidating, if I wanted to explore it," she said while tapping her chin in thought. "I figured I'd nose around everywhere else first. Now that I've found this place..."

Her voice trailed off as she looked around, smiling. "Well, I'll probably spend a lot of time here."

"Thank you!" Maxine replied happily.

With a nod, she said, "Yeah, it is kind of scary to want to explore the whole thing, considering how big it is, at least. It's really kind of cool, though, I think. I mean, you can see a lot of things from a lot of different worlds, and it's kind of like a museum only people live there." She paused, then said, "I think this place is my favourite though. It's so nice and it's a lot like being out in fresh air."

Maxine was voicing all the things she'd been thinking, and Aerith grinned at her. "I have to agree, this place is fantastic. I didn't know it'd be so wide open! This ship is so unpredictable. Then again, I've never been on a ship like this before. Or even flown."

There was a time, when young, she would have felt a little overwhelmed with so much space. Growing up in a place that made even the best of people feel claustrophobic made her get used to the limited amount of area. Now, she'd grown out of that a little bit. It still didn't make it any less amazing.

Maxine nodded vigorously in agreement to that. "It really is amazing, and so unlike anything I've ever seen, and I have seen some amazing stuff before. Not that you won't have, but I mean, going to space and stuff wasn't that out there for my world, not if you were a superhero, though I didn't do stuff like that very much. Stacy is just so much more and the fact that she's alive and there's so much here and the technology and the simulated environments are absolutely stunning. The amount of detail and how advanced it is is staggering."

Excited? Nah, definitely not.

Her enthusiasm is nice to see, and it seemed to be contagious. Aerith liked being around people bursting with positive energy like this, it made her feel lighter.

"Airships aren't that common back home, and we never went to space on my planet. Not for lack of trying! It's still a little much to take in, considering how much I wanted to fly." With a laugh, she spread her arms, giving a little shrug. "I guess it worked out, since that's exactly what I'm doing. Just not how I imagined it."

"Airships?" Maxine echoed, and she sounded genuinely fascinated. "We had planes and things back home, though I didn't tend to move around much, so it wasn't something I was that used to." She paused, and then suddenly started speaking quickly: "Would you like to fly, Aerith? By yourself? Or I guess not really by yourself, but without a machine or anything like that though I guess technically it would be aided by a machine, just more indirectly than any kind of ship?"

Aerith can't help the smile on her face as she listened to Maxine - she was very exuberant, and it was a good positive vibe the girl gave off.

At her questions, Aerith nodded eagerly. "I would. I never thought about flying like that, but since leaving home I have been pretty desperate to fly."

Maxine smiled brightly at Aerith's eagerness, and said, "Okay! I'll help out then. Um, it might be a bit windy, but I hope you don't mind. Hold on? You know, figuratively, anyway." She laughed a little bit, then focused on speeding up the air currents-- not into as big a storm as she normally would have, but enough to carefully lift the other girl from the ground, like she'd practised doing with her friends.

This was a little different - she flailed her arms a moment as she got used to the feeling of floating midair. Which didn't seem to be happening anytime soon, but she managed to stay upright, which gave her an odd sense of pride. It wasn't everyday someone offered to make you float in the air.

Aerith straightened her arms out, resisting the urge to flap them like wings. That probably wouldn't help. "Any tips on how to get used to this?" She was laughing as she asked, because really it was a thrill to be in the air like that.

"Not really, sorry," Maxine said with her own laugh, smiling at Aerith's reaction, and she lifted herself up a little further, moving through the air to be more on level with the other woman, now that she was flying with her. "I just kind of did, I guess. It was through experimentation, and being brave! But I mean, it was also a little different for me, since for me I'm always the centre of it. But my friends just kind of got used to it, I think."

Aerith was listening, really she was - she was just trying to keep herself from turning upside down as she did. It was a little unsettling, but she found shifting her weight the right way kept her relatively steady.

"This is an amazing ability!" Aerith said, beaming at Maxine. It was surprising that she had no fear of falling - but she'd already been through so much at that point, and coming as close to actual death as she had there seemed to be no reason to be afraid of much anymore. "I don't think I'd walk anywhere if I could fly."

Maxine smiled to see Aerith trying so hard, and she was careful to keep the wind as steady as possible, to help keep her supported. No sense in making it any worse, after all!

She laughed, though, and her face lit up with another smile, this time a little embarrassed. "Thank you," she said brightly, "It really can be kind of amazing. When I discovered I could use it to fly, I felt like my whole life was going to change. It is nice-- but I still try to walk around, too! If nothing else, it's good exercise, right?"

"True! I'd probably just fly everywhere and become very large and lazy." Aerith agreed, feeling a little more comfortable with this whole 'floating in the air' thing that was happening. As with most things, it just took her time to get used to it.

Maxine giggled at that. "Well, we wouldn't want that, right?" she said, a little bit of a teasing edge in her voice. "You're too pretty for that, anyway." She was glad that Aerith seemed comfortable; she knew it was kind of odd to get used to-- even if Maxine herself had mostly been too exhilerated to care, her first time.
