Summertime [Open]

Zouichi sat by a the mirrored black water of a small pond. Nearby, a wisteria plant was coming into bloom, dangling its delicate, curved violet flowers toward the earth.

As promised, a tray of chilled watermelon slices was set to the side, near the wooden steps leading down to the garden and free for any passersby to take. For his part, however, Zouichi occupied himself with feeding a small group of googly-eyed baby goldfish, who darted back and forth through the water to gobble up stray flakes of fish food.

It was nice to take a break from exploding ghost wolves lions once in a while.

Zouichi recognized the voice, even though he'd only just met Simon recently. "I suppose it is," he said, looking up from the little goldfish darting back and forth to gobble greedily at the flakes he'd spread across the water's surface.

"Tired of Crew Quarters?"

Simon sat down by the water, watching the fish with a quiet chuckle. "Not quite - tired of sleeping in Lagann. Reminds me of home, but it's not the best place to sleep for long periods of time." He had a sheepish look on his face as he said this, but his attention was still turned on the water.

"You sleep in your robot? Never heard that one before." He motioned for Simon to hold his hand out.

"Anyway, as long as you don't break anything and get along with the others, it should be fine. Howard might be your only problem; he's a little more particular about people than everyone else."

He paused. "Cats don't eat mole-pigs, do they?"

"Worked a lot better when I was younger and a lot shorter," Simon comments with a chuckle. His hand is held out with a bit of momentary confusion.

"I'd say I do pretty well at getting along with people," he mused out loud. "Long as they're not openly hostile to me or the folks I care about, I generally don't have a problem." The question about mole-pigs made Boota peek out with a curious noise. "Dunno - but Boota generally sticks real close to me."

"I'd imagine so. There was only room for one person to fit comfortably, if I recall." Zouichi placed some goldfish flakes into Simon's hand, motioning as if demonstration sprinkling the food over the surface of the water.

A pause. "...Howard may be a little hostile," he admitted. "But the others are pretty friendly. His cat does tend to try and eat or hunt small animals, but Alan's been all right, and Boota seems able to take care of himself. I thought I should mention it anyway, though."

Simon gave the flakes a curious look, then mimicked Zouichi's motion, letting them fall on the water. The fish coming to get it got a smile out of him.

The comment about Howard got a half-laugh, half sigh out of him. "Well. I'm not looking to make waves, just have a place to crash. Only place I plan on making any kind of trouble is on a battlefield, so I shouldn't have a problem. Boota should be fine, too, I'd think." The little pigmole nodded, making an affirmative noise.

Zouichi smiled. "All right, then. It's settled. Pick out an upstairs room (http://zouichi.livejournal.com/8060.html#secondfloor), and you can move your things in whenever you like."

Simon nods, brushing the last of the flakes out of his hand and stands. "Alright, thanks - give a shout if you need a spare set of hands doing stuff, I suppose. Should earn my keep somehow." With that, Simon heads off toward the stairs to check the rooms out.
