He didn't much care about death, or imprisonment -- and the payoff, in terms of information that might help the crew to survive, to learn the truth about their supposed 'allies', to gain some insight into this mysterious war they were fighting -- was immense. For all he knew, the Daligig were using everyone... and he didn't like the prospect of fighting on the wrong side. Not one bit.
