Still, another shore leave, and another chance to get out, stretch his legs without an actual mission. Beggars couldn't be choosers.

"Personally, I think it sounds fabulous."
no subject
Yeah. He might not be over the damaged artifact just yet.
"That's true, but it's an terrible name. Personally," Daniel said. "I think something's wrong with Stacy's screens." He looked her over. "You got cleared for shore leave?"
no subject
"Granted it's a little tacky but...wait, what did getting cleared for shore leave entail exactly?"
no subject
"A full psych evaluation and a health check. And inoculations," Daniel added with some glee. He managed to keep a very serious face. "So we don't spread anything on the planet's population or catch anything. You should hurry, get checked out."
And maybe he could poke around this planet which he wasn't going to call Happy Happy Fun World, on his own. He didn't think he'd ever really get over the problem Vala caused earlier, at least not for a few months, but maybe he could try and figure her out. Without her pulling the floor out from under him.

Vala didn't want to go through that again, it had been upsetting enough back home. Ink blots and trick questions were easy, she'd crammed for those, it was the rest that worried her - all that dredging up of the past.
"There must be a way of slipping through the net. Someone I can bribe."
no subject
Daniel's curiosity got the best of him. Vala's first reaction wasn't to take the test, it was to try and squeeze by, bend the rules
"Oh yeah, days definitely," Daniel said. Normally he wouldn't have continued, but Vala didn't exactly elicit a normal reaction out of him. Anyway, he'd put a stop to this if it started getting out of hand. "What would you even bribe with? You just got here."
no subject
"Well, you've been here a while, collected a few knick knacks as it were?" In all that junk in his lab there must be something he could spare. Vala smiled at him, wide eyed and hopeful.
no subject
It wasn't that he was extremely attached to most of his things. Daniel would give them up if it helped someone who needed it. When you moved around a lot, there just wasn't any point. Being able to get up and move from city to city, or dig to dig was worth a lot more than accumulating a lot of things. Although his place back on Earth was getting stuffy, a sign he'd settled down on Earth for the long haul and a sign he wasn't too sure he liked.

"Come on Daniel," Vala nudged him with an elbow playfully, deflecting her need to get out of the tests more than she'd ever admit with a fake smile, "you wouldn't deny a girl the chance to go to Happy Happy Fun World, would you?"
Forget the fact she has no idea who to bribe, or if they'd even be open to that sort of suggestion. She hasn't thought that far ahead yet.
no subject
"I am this time," seeing as how this was all hypothetical. And apparently only Daniel knew this was a hypothetical discussion. If it were for real, yeah, he wouldn't say no. Although he'd prefer not to help her build a bribe. He'd got with her to the start of the eval or the inoculations if she wanted company, but he wasn't going to help her squirm out of it. "So now what?"
Now that that less than legit option was a bust, maybe that meant she'd actually take the other route.
no subject
Nothing is hypothetical in Valaworld, he'll probably learn that in time. An idea can become a full blown plan of action in a matter of seconds, usually without the need for discussion and often mid-sentence.
"Well I guess I'm not going then am I?" She looked genuinely disappointed, "bring me back something. Preferably not the popcorn."
no subject
Yes, Vala, unlike you Daniel did actually go to the infirmary. He just didn't stay put. As long as he wasn't in danger of keeling over, it was good enough. He could still move about and work. Maybe it was just a matter of a no-show patient versus a bad patient, so he probably shouldn't talk. He wished she thought of it before she introduced her elbow into his side.
Daniel only had to take one look at her face and tell she was really disappointed. The enjoyment at watching her try to worm out of the hypothetical physicals vanished in about two seconds flat. Great. Now he felt like an ass. She really did seem set on getting out of the ship and looking around. Daniel had been trampling all over it just to see what she'd do.
Damn.
"You don't need a test or shots," Daniel sighed, then added. "I was pulling your leg."
no subject
So much so, she added a quick "I had you with the face though!" Then she smiled sarcastically. If smiles could talk then that one said 'I win, Daniel'.
no subject
"No you didn't. You really wanted to go," Daniel couldn't resist being a pain in the ass. Vala hadn't won a thing, other than getting him to back out. "I know what real disappointment looks like. You had it."
Maybe she won this round. And if she didn't find anyone else to hang around, Daniel guessed he could accompany her this time. Show her the ropes and make sure she didn't get lost or something on this planet. She was, supposedly, part of the SGC in some distant future. But just this time.
"Come on, we should get going."
