Target Practice
Since living in the new castle with Ruffnut, Mindy had done her best to maintain upkeep, even "borrowing" a few things from the wreckage of Grand Central to spruce up the place. It helped, especially since the events of the homecoming, to keep her head busy. On the one hand, yes, dad had appeared: he wasn't dead, he was proud to know they won, and for just a little bit? She got to be a little girl again, to crack wise with her dad, to show him how far she'd gotten.
But then he was gone again, and the new pod pop didn't bring him out. She shouldn't have hoped for it, but she had, a little. Once that was a no go though, she was either training or helping Ruffnut patch up some of the frayed tapestries or fix up carpeting or overall making sure there were no holes for them to fall through anywhere. It had been good, but even Ruffnut had sort of side stepped asking her about dad. It was something she appreciated: Mindy wasn't known for easily delving into her feelings.
This naturally led to another thing on her mind: what had happened on the mission, where the Castle gun shootout had almost taken her out- SHOULD have, if it was anyone else. She had severely underestimated what she could do: the way she;d moved, the accuracy in each shot, the sheer carnage: that was akin to a limit break.
And now, she wanted to control it.
She emptied herself of all thought: that was how a fight in the dark was, if you had no edge. There were only a few precious seconds to gather your mind, and then you opened your eyes and all hell broke loose. Your eyes and your hands had to work in tandem then, and you pulled back and took out people one by one until you got the job done or you were dead.
Like now: it was those gun slingers from the castle, and she started with ten at first, taking them out easily. The background was the saloon again, only she made it bigger to accomdate the increase in shooters. She cursed to herself (it was too quick!) then brought the number to fifteen, then twenty.
Each took less time, and Hit Girl nodded: she HAD gotten better. She wasn't even using Zetta's gun or her artifact, and she was still taking these bastards down.
"All right: switch it to forty, and place them all over the bar."
Ok. GO.

As she started to pick up the lyrics she howled and cheered as the bar exploded into activity to keep up with the girls. But for all the people moving and shaking and cheering and drinking Ruffnut was impossible to miss with her wild blond hair and low growly voice that exploded in beastlike howls.

Well, NORMALLY shooting the shit. The music was playing in full force now, and they just so happen to put on a particular song that Mindy, always liking her rock, and loved even back when she was young (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5DSSFJJ5Wo4). What was strange was, for some reason, it actually for her and Ruff pretty well!
So she joined into the chorus, and didn't even falter when, after jumping up and down, she broke the table and cut herself.

A beat. Skipped. A feeling she just felt, and, without thinking, she ran toward Ruffnut and barreled straight into her, making the best possible mosh ever.
She couldn't stop smiling, she was just...just felt really happy, loose and free even as she straddled Ruffnut.

Was it the beer? The idea of supremacy? The way the crowd was a memory she could never have, not with the real CBGB's closed but still seeing the stained seats and the scrawls on the tables? Maybe just aggression from the song, the pumped fist of real girl power, not just a bunch of girl declaring it in short skirts and making a fortune? Or was it just a want, a thing she kept hidden away she never bothered with until...
...she lowered herself down and kissed Ruffnut, full on the lips.

The first time had been blamed on beer, but Ruffnut could barely taste the beer on Mindy's lips...
...and only then did it occur to her that she was tasting her best friends lips. A flurry of sensations overcame her at once, emotions confused and bubbling, churning like an angry sea. Was this a real kiss or was she having fun? Could it even be that sort of thing? They were best friends was that allowed? She remembered what Hiccup and her had discussed about girls liking girls.
It was OK right? Who the HELL was she asking? She was the Goddamn thunder goddess viking overlord!
And so with exactly that much thought she kissed back. Who the hell cared what happened next? Might as well do what felt good.

And her gut, her heart, didn't see any point in acting like she wanted to look around or look for excuses.
After she did that, she was aware there were repercussions, and she had to be prepared for losing her best friend, the place she stayed, over this. Over her lack of a lie.
All that strife culminated into a panic that was rising in her, only to die when she felt the kiss come back, and her arms wrapping around the vikings head. A kiss could only say so much, but this one said, I didn't want to really look, ok? There was something and someone much better than sifting through the ship. I'm happy here.

But other then physical sensations associated with the kiss, The feeling of a pair of soft lips on her cracked dry ones, the smell of sweaty Mindy, the taste of skin and beer creeping through her mouth now, the sound of their clothes rubbing together and Mindy's breath through her nose and sight...well Ruffnut had her eyes closed.
But beyond her physical senses Ruffnut wasn't thinking, wasn't questioning. Not at this moment anyway. She was barely able to comprehend what Mindy's kiss meant. It just felt nice.

And everything just seemed to have color: the bond of Ruffnut's hair, the way the moon was reflected on the ocean, the way Ruffnut's chin quivered very slightly as she didn't, couldn't let go. Even that stale order, which Mindy had gotten used to on Ruff, was a new smell, sweeter than it had been.
She let go, but her hands were still on her shoulders, and she admitted t, knowing it could possible make things bad, but she wouldn't lie, not to her.
"I wanted it to be you."

She was surprised to see she didn't have a voice right away and made a funny sort of coughing noise before she found words again. "How long have you uh...felt...like that?" She mumbled suddenly feeling horribly awkward. Emotions were one thing, but "Feeling" was entirely different. It was one thing to do whatever she felt like and live as she pleased but to explain those pesky urges and drives was harder.

"Since that day with the beer and the ageing," Mindy finally said. "A part of me knew then, but when you were weirded out, I had to recover. When I figured you told Hiccup I knew I had to bury it further. The worse thing is anyone thinking you pushed, or that I manipulated you. I wanted...I wanted you not to deal with these idiots gossiping and laughing about you because I won't fucking let them. If...if you just want us to forget, I'll do it."
No. That sucks, I don't want that. Damn it. These sacrifices blow.

"Who's stupid enough to laugh at me?" Ruff asked curious and then added, "And over kissing and stuff? That's dumb. Anyone wants to laugh because someone wants to kiss me is probably just jealous." She cracked her knuckles in a sort of a warning as if there were people around them just waiting to fulfill Mindy's fears.

"Ground rules then," Mindy said, knowing she had to do this, because it was needed and because Ruffnut needed to know. "We don't tell anyone except maybe Zetta and Lash. Nobody needs to know our business or say crap until WE say so. Next, we still fight as a team, but as Overlords we compete. Let's face it, we are bad ass, we know it. One last thing, for both of us...no fucking lying. I'll tell you straight out what I mean, what I'm about, and you do the same. What we can't solve with words, we fight out."
She couldn't help but smile. "Deal, Ruffnut?"

She held a finger as if pausing the proceedings. "What about Hiccup and Astrid?" After all they were the last connection she had to her world. And they were the two most likely to understand where her own special brand of logic came from even if Mindy had learned enough of it she might as well be from their world.
She felt compelled to add Hana to the list too but at the same time felt like just mentioning her viking friends was pushing her luck. "Not like I'm gonna run right over and tell them just...if it comes up or something...I'm not that good with secrets." At least she was honest.

It was still weird though, and likely Hiccup would freak a little. She DID stupidly flirt with him (just because it was fun at the time) and now she hoped he didn't think she was just fucking around with Ruffnut. But who knew what would happen? Maybe the viking would pray to his gods they get disinterested or something.
"Yeah, ok," she said. "I mean, they are your friends from Berk, right? I guess I can't say no. Whatever happens, happens. Right now I just feel a lot happier we said it, and I don't have to pretend I'd like someone else on the ship thath awsn't you."

And with that, she gave her "friend" another passionate kiss, before whispering into her ear, "That's three."

All she could do was grin sheepishly and feel a rush of adrenaline. Whatever this was...it felt dangerous and exciting. Like there was so much more on the line then just breaking some bones or being sent to the big battle in the sky.

"You know, I gotta say: I'm really surprised you didn't figure it out when I went all ape shit on those guys in the saloon. I thought you would know for sure once you saw that. You can be totally dense sometimes, Ruff."

"I think you're starting to get the hang of this girlfriend part already."

So as usual...she was planning on blundering along head first and making it up as she went along.
