Shady Solitude [Open!]

Kara Zor-El stepped out of the small Kryptonian temple to Rao and walked back onto the...could she call it a street? She wasn't sure. She'd privately nicknamed this place Religion Row, though, because of all of the houses of worship. She brushed back a lock of her impossibly shiny golden blonde hair, noticing that the more she was away from the affect of the yellow sun, the more her hair was fading to becoming just a regular, dull blonde. This, she wasn't so fond of. She liked it when her hair was all prismatic and shiny and impossibly unreal. She crossed her arms and sighed, walking through the area and seating herself underneath the shade of a large, inexplicably blue tree. She'll never get used to seeing some of the things here. Back home on Krypton, almost everything was made of organic crystal. This place is as organic as Krypton, but so much more filled with life...though perhaps not as much life as Kara's seen on Earth during her short time there.

She brought her knees up to her chest and hugged them, lost in her thoughts and daydreams, enjoying the solitude and being far and away from anyone named Brainiac.

"Ah, I see. It would seem that we may have something in common there," Brainy ventures. "I suppose you're already familiar with my ancestor's... history." His eyes flick up to the temple again.

"You moved to-" It isn't often that something can make Brainiac 5 double take, but what Kara said does the trick.

"How could you have moved? When Brainiac 1.0 took Kandor, he took everyone within it as well and-"

He hesitates for a moment, but he's had to come clean with this once already and Kara already knows more than the Legion did then. Still, he can't quite meet her eyes as he speaks. "When Kandor was taken from Krypton it... Kandor had been housing the device used to stabilise the planet's core. With it gone, Krypton was destroyed soon after."

"And you were sent away from Krypton as well, to keep an eye on Clark," he finishes. Something doesn't quite sit right about that, and he wonders why, if Kara's father was so reprehensible, he wouldn't have tried to stop something like that. But there is always the possibility that there had been more to it than that.

Either way, it isn't something he wants to ask about right now; he'd prefer to just get to know Kara further out of curiosity in both her and his counterpart's apparent affection for her.

"How did you and... the other Brainiac 5 meet?"

Oh, there was much more to it than that. So much that Kara didn't relish thinking about it, even though it haunted her at the back of her mind every waking moment.

"There was only one other ship," she explains. "And the only person who could fit into it was someone slight - a teenager. And Daddy...wanted his line to live on as well." Because he hated Jor-El and Jor-El's line. "Besides, who better to take care of Kal than family, right?"

"I suppose there is that," Brainiac 5 agrees. His suspicions had apparently been unfounded after all, so he supposes it's better that he didn't end up asking about it any further. He doesn't want to offend Kara as they're just starting to tentatively discuss things, after all.

He remains silent for a moment, noticing that she hasn't answered his question about his counterpart. Whatever had happened must have had a significant effect in that case, he concludes. He's curious about what could have caused that, but something else gets his attention first.

"Do you miss them? Your parents?"

Does she miss them? Let's see...her father went crazy and told her to kill her mother, her mother begged her to obey her father and kill her...Kara actually went ahead and killed her mother, and then her father helped her kill all of her classmates before sending her to Earth to kill Kal-El.

Does she miss her parents?

"Rao, yes. Terribly." Incredibly jacked up though her life may have been? They were her parents. That stood for a lot.

"We podpopped together," she adds a moment later. "Your counterpart and I. He was the first person I met on the ship."

"I see." He thinks back to his own experiences with 'podpopping' and smiles slightly. "That must have been... interesting. If a little embarrassing."

Brainy blinks in surprise. "You don't need to apologise to me," he says calmly. "When I first saw him, I believed him to be some sort of... badly made copy. I imagine his thoughts were somewhat similar. Considering our family history, it is the most logical conclusion."

He smiles again. "And besides, we were able to work things out in the end. To be honest, in some ways this makes things easier. There's less I have to... keep to myself."
