Look at you, soaring through the air. Like an eagle. Piloting a blimp. [OPEN]

To say Chell had been shaken up by Stacy's "gift" would be an understatement. First, Cave Johnson, in the flesh, then the mysterious Other Person, the one who'd led her to GLaDOS' chamber that first time, the one who scrawled cryptic messages in back rooms and painted all those murals of her. Knowing there had been another living person running through the bowels of Aperture the same time she was fighting for her life was a shock, to say nothing of actually meeting the man. It was only a day, but it was enough. She needed to get her mind elsewhere before it wandered to unsavory places. Well. More unsavory places than it had already been.

Generally, when she spent time in the Sensoriums, it was in an imagined outdoor landscape, a yellow wheat field with a brilliant blue sky and perfect white clouds--the opposite of the lab in which she'd been imprisoned, almost foreign. Now, however, Chell was looking for familiarity, and as much as she hated the test chambers, hated what they reminded her of, she had to admit they were the most familiar thing she knew. And on a place like Stacy, familiarity was comfort, especially in the wake of recent events.

And it was good to have a portal device again, even if it was only imaginary. She just plain felt safer with one, the weight of it in her hands and the knowledge that it could provide life-saving escape if the need arose.

Chell had always thought that GLaDOS' puzzles would be fun without the presence of a homicidal robot or two after her blood, and so she found an unoccupied Sensorium and started devising a few of her own, ones with lots of sheer drops and high-mounted panels and aerial faith plates, perfect for launching herself from ledge to ledge around the chamber. If she closed her eyes it was almost like flying.

Zouichi entered the room and... what was this? There was someone flying around on the ledges above him and was that Chell? He'd never been in GLaDOS's testing chambers, so he didn't recognize the location, but he figured from their previous conversation that this might be the sort of place in which she'd spent her time before being picked up by the ship. Which just brought up the question of why she was here now.

Zouichi launched himself over the long gap to the next platform. A gap insurmountable for a human (well, without equipment, anyway), but perfectly surmountable for him.

...Yes, he was cheating.

And all of a sudden they were suddenly in the same place. Except they were definitely not just a second ago. Zouichi looked back at the portal, through which he could see the other side, and...

"What is that? Some sort of... gate mechanism?"

He'd never seen anything quite like it (and he'd seen quite a few unusual pieces of technology in his time).

How was that even possible? A stable portal from one location to another, no detrimental effects on living organisms?

He approached the blue portal slowly, then stuck his hand through. It came out of the orange one, but his arm felt no different. It was just... in a different part of the room. Somehow.

"So this is the kind of experiment you were talking about? I've heard about space-warping technology, but..."

How would Chell react to a talking unicorn? XD

Rarity found herself missing her boutique again and entered the sensoriums once more. If it was occupied, she would leave but what she saw was unbelievable.

From the corner of her eye, she saw a figure soaring through the air without any effort and without any wings. Now she was curious. However, the figure kept moving rapidly and Rarity could not find the right opportunity to speak.

Not wanting to waste any more time, the unicorn called out, "Excuse me, how are you flying without wings?"

Well... it was sort of hard not to catch some of that enthusiasm. And he was curious. He stepped through after her, and found himself immediately on the other side. The implications were sort of mind-boggling. Almost every aspect of human life was based on the the idea of linear movement; if you wanted to get from point A to point B, you had to walk, swim, or fly.

Plus, it wasn't based on magic (at least, not that he could tell), which didn't make any sense at all. It was based on SCIENCE.

...Just like psychics and zombie viruses!

"I didn't even know you had a device like that. I've never seen you carrying it around."

Aw =(

Rarity stepped back a bit, slightly intimidated but she got distracted by the lovely white boots she was wearing. "Ooo! That looks absolutely gorgeous! I've never seen anything like it."

"The shape is sleek and streamlined. The colour totally enhances its beauty! And it looks really good on your leg, I don't my hooves can fit into such fabulous-ness. What kind of boots are these?"

Rarity was saying everything rather quickly. Anything about fashion made her really excited.

"Ah. Well, I suppose I can see how it might be a little dangerous..." Or extremely dangerous; Zouichi could easily imagine someone hurting themselves or others with a device like this. Still, he'd gotten to keep all his weapons, so why not let Chell have her gate-creator-thing?

"Did you at least find some of your other possessions when you got here?"

"Sorry to hear it." He looked at the boots curiously. "Those were the kind of boots you drew on Wheatley, aren't they? I'm guessing they help you run and jump?"

They didn't really look like they provided much protection, but some of the design looked similar to the prosthetic devices of his world. Besides, if you had to make a lot of long jumps...

Today found Jamie with a tray of slop, on his way to the Sensoriums to imagine up something much more pleasant to eat. He headed into the first one he could find, planning on heading right back out if it was occupied.

Which, of course, it was. However, the location wasn't too dissimilar to a few places he'd been before he woke up on Stacy - just with more ledges and gaps and a figure high above him on one of those ledges.

At least, that's what it looked like. He peered upwards, trying to get a better glimpse to see if he was right. Yes, there was someone. That lassie with the wee robot from Engineering, actually, doing...what was she doing?

"Hey!" he called up to her. "What are ye doing?"

[identity profile] whining-unicorn.livejournal.com 2011-09-30 09:24 am (UTC)(link)
Rarity levitated the white boot with her magic and examined it closely. She was quite interested in the curvy heel pad extending behind the boot. "Looks rather springy." The unicorn remarked as she stretched out a hoof to touch it curiously.

"Oh and my name is Rarity. What's yours?" She looked up at the lady with a smile.

He looked genuinely intrigued by this (although he was startled by the cavalier way in which she fell from the ceiling). How interesting. "How far can you fall without being damaged? Or does it not matter?" If they were designed to account for terminal velocity, she could essentially survive any fall in an Earthlike environment.

In which case those were some pretty sweet boots.

"In other words, you could fall from just about anywhere on Earth and be totally fine. That's some pretty good survivability."

He did a lot of falling, too, mostly because that was what happened when you lived in a world filled with superpowered zombies and explosions, but he didn't think he managed it with quite as much savoir faire. Usually.

"...but how'd you end up falling down an elevator shaft?"
