Forcellia, or at least the part of it that contained the clearing in which the group now found themselves, wasn't exactly welcoming. The ground was little more than rocky soil, the sky violet-grey and overcast. Here, it was evidently late afternoon, edging into evening. It was slightly humid, as if from a recent rain; faint clouds of steamy mist seemed to curl off the ground, partially obscuring their view of their surroundings. Scraggly trees rose up out of this mist here and there, as if grasping towards fresher air.

The villagers in the area had supposedly been contacted ahead of time, and this had been the place they’d agreed to meet the crew. Whether or not they knew anything about this supposed Scepter of Domination, however, was not yet clear. What the Scepter even did or how it might contribute to their struggle was even less clear.

In the distance, they might hear the occasional whinny of a horse, or the lowing of a cow carrying up to them from the distance, though it was difficult, if not impossible, to tell from which direction the sound was coming from.

The More You Know

"I am an excellent mage," Soren said. He also strongly suspected he was a Branded by way of a Dragon Tribe laguz (Soren was prejudiced, not stupid), but Sofia didn't need to know that okay.

"However, if you do not wish to teach me the spell, I will understand." Not accept it, though -- he'd keep a close eye on her and try to figure out how she did it. And ONE DAY...!

It's Dragon Quest they just yell out spell names and it makes a strange spell sound I mean what.

Speaking of people who weren't stupid, she gave him another look-see before answering. The way he paused before saying she was part dragon, the strange mark on his forehead...there was just something about this all but she wasn't sure quite what. Hey maybe if you also put together the fact he had green hair too it make make more sense. But she said none of that, of course.

"Is there any particular reason why you'd want to learn such a spell? I can understand that the allure of it to prove your skills as a mage might be interesting, but as I said before, very few can control it properly..."

Hmmmm did he trust Sofia with his super special secret. Well probably not because he barely trusted Ike with his super special secret

He paused, brow furrowing briefly as if he were weighing the pros and cons of revealing his reasoning to her. "In my world," he said finally, "Dragons are immensely powerful, hardy creatures. It's true they are renowned for their ill temper, and I did not care for those I met on Tellius... but their abilities are undeniable. And in a war such as the one in which we now find ourselves involved, invaluable."

Ike didn't understand his super special secret for a long while because I WASN'T A BIG DEAL TO HIM.

"Your intentions are noble, but you've just told me that by default they are renowned for their ill temper. Unless you have dragon blood flowing in her veins, it could be completely catastrophic..."

A pause.

"If we were to test this spell on you, it would be to be far far away from any nearby civilization."

You mean because Ike is a dumbotron

"Or in an area where it could be guaranteed that damage to the environs would not translate to damage elsewhere." He paused. "Such as the Sensoriums."

You like him and all his dumbness admit it.

She thought about it for a few minutes before answering.

"Alright. I will see what we can do when we return, then."

n-no I... okay yes

"I am looking forward to it." Whatever, Soren could totally rein in a dragon laguz. Probably. Besides, he'd seen what Kurthnaga had done to that castle tower. If that kind of power could be harnessed...
