Forcellia, or at least the part of it that contained the clearing in which the group now found themselves, wasn't exactly welcoming. The ground was little more than rocky soil, the sky violet-grey and overcast. Here, it was evidently late afternoon, edging into evening. It was slightly humid, as if from a recent rain; faint clouds of steamy mist seemed to curl off the ground, partially obscuring their view of their surroundings. Scraggly trees rose up out of this mist here and there, as if grasping towards fresher air.

The villagers in the area had supposedly been contacted ahead of time, and this had been the place they’d agreed to meet the crew. Whether or not they knew anything about this supposed Scepter of Domination, however, was not yet clear. What the Scepter even did or how it might contribute to their struggle was even less clear.

In the distance, they might hear the occasional whinny of a horse, or the lowing of a cow carrying up to them from the distance, though it was difficult, if not impossible, to tell from which direction the sound was coming from.

Caro notices the look, but just smiles anyway. They're all here to work together, right?

"He would draw a lot of attention to us, one the other hand. But it's an idea we could use for a last resort.

"I wonder what happened here." She's just thinking aloud, finding the silence a little creepy. "I'll bet there's some clue if we look around."

feel free to make up watchpoint-ish things to find in the area

Soren sighed, then looked around. There were traces of a campfire nearby that looked recent enough -- perhaps used in the past day or two. So clearly the area wasn't entirely abandoned.

And he thought he saw something else, too... a large shadowy object nearby, partially obscured by the mist. He walked toward it without hesitation; if it was dangerous, he was confident he could defend himself.

"Ah --" Caro almost stops him as he marches over, but she doesn't want to stop on any toes. So instead she just follows, trying to make as many observations as possible.

"Seems like they left on their own -- or ran away. Nothing looks damaged."

Soren frowned. "If they were supposed to meet us here and are not, that suggests the latter. Provided, of course, that our vessel delivered us to the right place."

Now he was coming up on the object and... it was made of a splintery wooden frame, bolted firmly down to the ground. There was a harpoon of some sort attached to it, the bolt easily as long as a person.

"A ballista," he said, recognizing it instantly. What, did they have a problem with marauding pegasus knights here?

There were several more similar contraptions scattered around the area, too, aimed in the same general direction.
