A Housewarming Party for a Castle

Celestia's new home was a grand residence indeed: the citadel of Camelot, a place which featured heavily in the myths and legends of Earth. Not that Celestia was familiar with these myths, of course.

Guests were free to wonder around the castle at will, but Celestia had decided that today, the courtyard would be a lovely place for everypony to get together. There were a few tables set up, with the treats Hoshi and Applejack had so generously made, and Rarity's beautiful decorations. And later, Celestia planned to invite her guests to ride on the Ferris wheel that happened to be located just outside the castle.

The crewmembers had suffered a great loss recently, but she hoped that this would bring them some small amount of joy, and the comfort of friendship in this time.

[[ooc: Sorry this is a day late guys, uni ended up being much more hectic yesterday than I expected. Anyways, I've put up a subthread for Celestia greeting visitors and rides on the London Eye. Those that ICly helped out this party can also set up sub-threads for the food tables/games/whatever as well, if you guys want to. (Edit: The sub-thread for Hoshi & Applejack's nibbles is up here!)

But other than that, feel free to start your own threads and tag each other. People can also wonder around and explore the castle - it's the BBC Merlin version of Camelot, but only the citadel itself (as opposed to the whole city).]]

"I've never had an apple before, to be honest," Kaya said, "But I definitely see why you like them: they're delicious! I'm curious though: I've heard a little of the pony Celestia on the comms. She seems to be pretty important. Who is she in your world."

"Celestia? Why, she's the princess, of course. She's ruled Equestria longer than anypony can remember. Every morning she raises the sun, and every night she tucks it in and brings the nighttime. Us ponies guide the seasons along, but she's in charge of day and night."

Applejack didn't sound unhappy with her rule at all. Nopony doubted their gentle princess.

"Huh. Some of the other humans said they'd had them before. Guess they can't be everywhere, but I'm sure glad you tried one."

"Oh, so you have a monarchy in your world!" That made sense. The next part of what she said, however, made less to her. "Wait: she takes care of day and night? That's a little hard for me to wrap my head around. In my world, there's a girl that became the spirit of the moon, but I've never thought anyone would be powerful enough to do both. Wow."

That was pretty awe inspiring, really. She still had to wrap her head around it.

She nodded. "What else do you have? I really want to try this new kind of food, you're a great chef!"

"It wasn't always that way," Applejack started to explain. "See, Celestia has a sister. Princess Luna's her name. Luna used to control the moon, but one day she caught the green eyed monster over Celestia. Thought her sister was better, loved more, 'cause she brought the light. That's when Luna turned to the dark, became Nightmare Moon. Celestia had to fight her sister, trap her in the moon for a thousand years. At least, that's how the story goes."

But there was more, of course. "We've always seen her face as the mare in the moon, but we didn't know it was all true 'til the stars lined up and she escaped. Nightmare Moon took Celestia from us, said we'd have nighttime forever. So it was up to us to stop her. My friends and I---see, we learned that we've got the spirits of the Elements of Harmony inside us. By bringing loyalty, kindness, honesty, laughter, generosity, and magic together---we'd be able to defeat her. And we did! Luna was back to herself, and we threw a big party for her. Still haven't seen her since, but I guess she's had to rest up and get used to Equestria again."

That was quite a story, but not one that was beyond Kaya's comprehension. She could certainly understand why someone would be jealous if Celestia brought the sun instead of the moon: most people got things done then, and at night were more likely to be less active. It was a shame though, that the two sister had to be separated on this ship.

"It's a shame that Luna couldn't see my world," Kaya said. "I'm a waterbender, and we benders are the only ones that didn't learn the skill from an animal: we learned from the way the moon controlled the tides. But I am glad that your combined powers were able to get Luna out of her evil form. I'm from a world that believes very much in balance."

Applejack was happy to hear that. "Right. Everything's all about harmony and such---I thought it was a bunch of nonsense, but it really does make sense. You know? I think Luna'd be happy to meet you."

If only she would awaken and join them. Wouldn't it really be something to see.

"Maybe someday we'll see her with the moon's rising again."

"I'd love to see that myself, actually," Kaya said. "It sounds like Luna's had a long time to be by herself, and being that way made her angry. Having resentment that long hurts more than it helps. I'd love to know what Luna is like when she's happy with the present company."

She chuckled. "And actually, I'm biased: one of my very best friends on this ship was also named Luna, and she knew magic."

"I'd like to lend her a hoof too. Maybe someday. It'd sure make Princess Celestia happy."

Applejack looked on, still curious. "She's no pony, though, is she?"

[identity profile] kaya-waterwave.livejournal.com 2011-09-08 12:21 am (UTC)(link)
"You seem to care for your ruler very much," Kaya said. "But she seems so nice. I'm glad you have someone like that in your world to watch over all of the ponies. Some rulers aren't that benign."

She laughed. "No, she was a regular human but with magic. Her world did have unicorns though. They didn't talk though, so I have a feeling she would have really liked meeting you."
appletastic: (Now lemme think a minute)

[personal profile] appletastic 2011-09-08 01:01 am (UTC)(link)
Applejack knew that, all right. "We really are lucky. Can't imagine Equestria any other way!"

She smiled at the description of the girl. "Huh. I'm still wondering why those other ponies couldn't talk. Or why y'all couldn't hear them. All this is still new."

[identity profile] kaya-waterwave.livejournal.com 2011-09-08 02:51 am (UTC)(link)
"Then I hope she can ease the pain of the people on the ship too," Kaya said. "They need all the help they can get."

She shrugged. "Different worlds all have different things in them, different ways things are. I'm still learning the degree to how different they are."
