A Housewarming Party for a Castle

Celestia's new home was a grand residence indeed: the citadel of Camelot, a place which featured heavily in the myths and legends of Earth. Not that Celestia was familiar with these myths, of course.

Guests were free to wonder around the castle at will, but Celestia had decided that today, the courtyard would be a lovely place for everypony to get together. There were a few tables set up, with the treats Hoshi and Applejack had so generously made, and Rarity's beautiful decorations. And later, Celestia planned to invite her guests to ride on the Ferris wheel that happened to be located just outside the castle.

The crewmembers had suffered a great loss recently, but she hoped that this would bring them some small amount of joy, and the comfort of friendship in this time.

[[ooc: Sorry this is a day late guys, uni ended up being much more hectic yesterday than I expected. Anyways, I've put up a subthread for Celestia greeting visitors and rides on the London Eye. Those that ICly helped out this party can also set up sub-threads for the food tables/games/whatever as well, if you guys want to. (Edit: The sub-thread for Hoshi & Applejack's nibbles is up here!)

But other than that, feel free to start your own threads and tag each other. People can also wonder around and explore the castle - it's the BBC Merlin version of Camelot, but only the citadel itself (as opposed to the whole city).]]

"Thank you, Princess Celestia. I could never have done it without your help." Rarity replied as she looked at her hard work with pride.

"You're welcome, Rarity," she said warmly. "And I do hope that you will also enjoy yourself at the party as well, particularly after all your hard work. After all, it is a wonderful opportunity to make new friends!"

Rarity nodded and bowed. "I hope you have a pleasant time at the party and a splendid time in your new home."

"Thank you - I'm sure I will," Celestia said. "After all, I do have my beloved subjects here with me."

Beloved? Rarity's heart was filled with joy. "You are most gracious, Princess. If I may, I think you would have been able to open a boutique too."

Celestia laughed, charmed. "Why thank you, Rarity. But I'm afraid that ruling Equestria takes up just a little too much of my time."

Rarity's interest was piqued. Surely there was something the Princess loved doing when she was not performing her royal duties. "I am curious. What are your hobbies, Your Highness?"

"Well, on occasion I do enjoy painting, playing the violin, reading, dancing, knitting, writing letters, stamp collecting, origami, tea making, embroidery, bird watching, go fish, growing bonsai trees, scuba diving..."

Celestia was over 1000 years old, after all. She'd had a considerable amount of time to develop a wide range of hobbies.

Rarity could only look on in shock. "You have an impressive list of hobbies, Princess. How do you juggle through them all?" She could not imagine the alicorn princess dancing and scuba diving though. It never came across her mind that Celestia would engage in something physical.

"Unfortunately, I don't have much time for hobbies at all," Celestia said. Why by all appearances didn't really answer the question at all. "I'm often much too busy running Equestria - but every now and then, I do find a little time to set aside." It just so happens that 'a little time' every now and then can build up to quite a bit of time over one thousand years.

"I'm sure no matter how little time you have, you enjoyed the hobbies with your family as well?" Rarity did not want to be rude but she was still impressed and in awe about the Princess's skills.

"Yes, I have," Celestia said, her voice turning soft as she thought of her sister. "The return of my dear sister Luna has been a most precious gift."

She just had to hope that Luna would soon wake. After having been reunited with her sister after so long, it pained Celestia to have been parted from her again so soon.

Rarity saw the slightly sad look in her eye and attempted to comfort her. "I'm sure she is safe along with my sister and Applejack's."

There was a small silence but she broke it with another question. "What about your other family members like Prince Blueblood?"

"Yes, of course," Celestia said, a smily creeping into her voice. She was not the only one missing their family, and it would do her well to remember that.

"Oh, we see each other on occasion," she said lightly. Prince Blueblood, admittedly, was not a pony that Celestia looked forward to spending time with. But he was still family, so of course she did make some time for him.

"Do your family members have the same interests as you?" Rarity did not want to inquire about him directly and attempted to divert the question.

"Some do, but not all of them. You remember Prince Blueblood, don't you?" she said, a twinkle in her eye. "I'm afraid he doesn't have much interest in any of my hobbies."

After all, most of Prince Blueblood's hobbies centered around just one thing: himself.

Rarity's eye twitched a bit at the mention of his name. "Yes, I do remember him. I can understand why his interests are entirely different from yours." She was a little relieved that the Princess did not appear to be extremely fond of him either.

"I'm sorry he wasn't what you hoped to be," Celestia said gently.

Her eyesbrows shot into her mane. "How did you...?" Rarity was surprised and astonished that the Princess knew. "I do not mean any disrespect to your family." She bowed down, a little embarrassed.

"Twilight often writes to me about all her friends, and what she has learned about friendship," Celestia said, before her expression turned amused. "And you two did make quite a stir at the Grand Galloping Gala. But it's quite alright - my family may be of royal birth, but just like anything else, respect is something that we need to earn. Prince Blueblood needs to realise that his station doesn't mean he can look down on others."

Rarity thought hard for a good reply. "You're a good teacher to Twilight, I'm sure your teachings may get to him some day."

She stared at the Princess for a while, looking at her crown and necklace. An idea popped into her head. "Pardon me your highness but have you worn any clothes to functions before?"

"Thank you Rarity. And Twilight is indeed a wonderful student, with her friends to guide her as well." One could not learn about friendship without friends, after all.

"I don't wear clothes often, but on a few occasions I have indeed worn clothes to functions," Celestia said. "Just for a little change, of course."

The itch to design for Princess Celestia was one she was forcing herself to not scratch at the current moment. "Really? I have never seen you in an outfit before, Your Highness."

"Well it has been quite a while," she said, chuckling. "I imagine you and your friends had not been born the last time."

"Fashion from the past? That is vintage! How is it different from the fashion now? Oh I simply must learn all about it." Rarity said with enthusiasm before adding on, "If I may, could I design an outfit for you, Princess Celestia?"
