Lirath - Ground Battle

After dropping off some of the crew at Balisair, it was time for the crew to set course for Lirath. The situation greeting them wasn't the most promising.

The cracked surface of the moon called Lirath was one of its most unmistakeable features. One of the three moons of the planet Kehoe, it had been terraformed and served as a settlement for a hundreds of different species, some humanoid, some not. Despite occasional class struggles, environmental issues, and speciesism blocking their way, the darker parts of Lirath's past were largely left behind, and an era of peace and tolerance had reigned for quite some time. The only problems they'd had recently were with a terrorist group whose cause for their actions had been a mystery, but they weren't tied to any particular species or social group and had been likened to a cult and had largely gone quiet in recent years.

Now the peace on the moon of Lirath had been shattered by the invasion of the Ohm.

The capital city had been destroyed. Now, all that was left of the peoples of Lirath was evacuating from one of its smaller cities, one known as Smyteval. A desert city, existing in a valley in between a rocky range of canyons and mountains, even though it was in the low ground, the natural channels of rock served as bottlenecks for any Ohm attacking from the ground.

GIA squadrons patrolled in space, locked in explosive warfare, protecting the Bleed-gate that had been activated to see the evacuated ships to the refugee world, and a shield created by massively-powerful shield generators extended around the city and up into the atmosphere, creating a shielded tunnel so ships could escape.

Word had come that there was a vital weapon to be deployed on Lirath, one that needed to be destroyed, hence why the Transmigration 9 had been called in. Given the diverse crew, and the ships that were in its hangar, there was at least someone or something on board that could blow the weapon up if it did show.

There was no sign of it yet. Right now, there was just chaos, streams of evacuees boarding ships, armies of Ohm engaged with GIA soldiers outside the shields, and forcefields that everyone hoped would hold out just a little bit longer.

The crew would be following Leon's orders but finding themselves fighting side-by-side with GIA platoons, full of various species that were currently all getting their asses kicked severely.

< I think so, > Rachel admits, her dim eyes trying to focus on where Jamie had pointed with his weapon. She saw the general shape, though, and that was probably enough to get the idea. And she's okay with backtracking a bit, since it's so that they can kick more Ohm ass, of course.

While tearing into a grunt with her teeth and claws at once (and doing her best to ignore the pain its inflicting back while it fights her grasp), she responds with a simple < can do. >

She spits out pieces of the grunt as it goes limper, and smashes away another that cut into her arm, but she starts to back up some, get closer to where he signalled.

Jamie nods, but isn't able to really respond otherwise, as he dodges one grunt and barely manages to avoid being skewered by another. He can see Rachel starting to move towards the rock formation, and he starts to join her - but the grunts are making it a slow process, and the halberd, while better for chopping through the joints, is going to slow him down further.

He dismisses the halberd, sending out a series of small fireballs to knock the nearest grunt back, and calls the blaster, aiming its fire at those vulnerable points while he picks up his pace. A quick glance over at his target shows that the grunts are trying to get through and cut off their access to the more defensible area - and try and get in an attack from behind.

"There's grunts coming in behind ye. I'll try and and draw their attention. See if ye can get a path clear to the rocks, aye?"

He takes off running through the field, likely looking like a red and white blur to her (or brown and white if bears are colorblind, which he's not sure about). He starts to fire at the Ohm, boosting it with his fire attacks to make it more effective. Hopefully they'll see him as the more dangerous target and focus their attention on him long enough for her to clear the way.

Rachel is forcing her way through the grunts quite violently, tearing into them even while they attempt to do the same to her. She's getting roughed up, but she's doing her fair share of damage right back. Bears are tough, faster than they look, and the claws and teeth definitely don't hurt.

< Sounds good, > Rachel calls back in thought speech to Jamie's plan. She could do 'make a path'-- that was kind of her thing.

She let out a fierce roar as her friend went past her, and began to barrel through the Ohm ahead of her-- decking them with several tonnes of grizzly bear seemed a pretty effective way to make space.

Not as many as Ohm as Jamie would have liked turn their attention to him, but with the help of his blaster he still gets more than a few determined to take him out, and his natural agility gets put to good use as he dodges and ducks the attacks.

As for Rachel's plan - it was quite effective, actually, as the grunts she goes barreling through are knocked off balance, one or two of them actually tipping over and slowing the advance of the others.

Between the two of them they're able to get enough Ohm out of the way that the GIA fighters are able to make a break for the more defensible position, one of them yelling to Rachel to go there as well before falling back. Jamie, however, fights his way back to her side, and you can almost hear the grin in his voice, even if his face is hidden by the helmet.

"Aye, that'll show them. Let's get back with the others before they regroup."

< Damn straight, > Rachel agrees, her voice actually pretty gleeful. There was something exhilarating about just barrelling through them and getting them out of the damn way, actually. She stood up on her back paws for a moment, making herself look bigger, and roared at the Ohm again, before smashing down, forcing them to back off long enough for her and Jamie to gain some ground, and join back with the GIA in their new location.

For a lassie, Rachel's a fearsome fighter, Jamie thinks, especially like that. He may never get used to he idea of girls being fighters deep down, but right now, he's very glad she's here with him to help.

He helps to push the Ohm back and follows along with her, meeting up with the others. The position may be better, but the Ohm are still coming, and there's a lot of them left yet to fight. Any other conversation they might have had for now is put aside, the better to concentrate on taking down their enemy.
