Lirath - Ground Battle

After dropping off some of the crew at Balisair, it was time for the crew to set course for Lirath. The situation greeting them wasn't the most promising.

The cracked surface of the moon called Lirath was one of its most unmistakeable features. One of the three moons of the planet Kehoe, it had been terraformed and served as a settlement for a hundreds of different species, some humanoid, some not. Despite occasional class struggles, environmental issues, and speciesism blocking their way, the darker parts of Lirath's past were largely left behind, and an era of peace and tolerance had reigned for quite some time. The only problems they'd had recently were with a terrorist group whose cause for their actions had been a mystery, but they weren't tied to any particular species or social group and had been likened to a cult and had largely gone quiet in recent years.

Now the peace on the moon of Lirath had been shattered by the invasion of the Ohm.

The capital city had been destroyed. Now, all that was left of the peoples of Lirath was evacuating from one of its smaller cities, one known as Smyteval. A desert city, existing in a valley in between a rocky range of canyons and mountains, even though it was in the low ground, the natural channels of rock served as bottlenecks for any Ohm attacking from the ground.

GIA squadrons patrolled in space, locked in explosive warfare, protecting the Bleed-gate that had been activated to see the evacuated ships to the refugee world, and a shield created by massively-powerful shield generators extended around the city and up into the atmosphere, creating a shielded tunnel so ships could escape.

Word had come that there was a vital weapon to be deployed on Lirath, one that needed to be destroyed, hence why the Transmigration 9 had been called in. Given the diverse crew, and the ships that were in its hangar, there was at least someone or something on board that could blow the weapon up if it did show.

There was no sign of it yet. Right now, there was just chaos, streams of evacuees boarding ships, armies of Ohm engaged with GIA soldiers outside the shields, and forcefields that everyone hoped would hold out just a little bit longer.

The crew would be following Leon's orders but finding themselves fighting side-by-side with GIA platoons, full of various species that were currently all getting their asses kicked severely.

Grif did not reply immediately, busy sending a fifty caliber round through a grenadier's head. Ha! He made that shot!

"Not with space bugs, I haven't!" he replied, raising his voice a bit over the growing din. "It was zombies!"

Oh god the zombies. Zombie nightmares forever. At least the Ohm weren't... you know. Rotting.

"Zombies?" Zombies. Really? Not only would they be forced to fight bugs that were far larger than a bug ever ought to be, but also Necromancers? This ship was insane.

She drew a breathe, not speaking for several moments while she picked off her targets, letting her reflexes guide her, assisting where she could and simply controlling damage where she could not. It was difficult not to keep eyes on her father at all times, but for the moment she was managing.

The rifle did not speak to her the same way her bow did, but she was managing. she was sure it would become more instinctive with time.

"Yeah! I'll tell you about it when we're done!"

When they were done. He had to be firm about that with himself. Grif hadn't been there on Zokez II, but he'd seen what was written about it. The GIA said this would probably end well, but Grif didn't trust them as far as he could throw them. (Which was not at all.) There was a very real possibility he could get killed down here, and he had to keep pushing it out of his head.

Don't think. Just keep shooting.

"I am not sure if I should look forward to this story, Grif! Were there Necromancers or just zombies?" When they were done, it was nice to think about after. It was nice to think about hearing stories of other battles and what had occurred in them, warriors tales were the sort of stories she and her siblings had grown up on, after all.

Strange to think that now she would have one of her own to tell, when her siblings woke. She frowned, brow wrinkling as she waited for the grenadier to slip back into view, holding the shot until she could be sure it would be a clean kill.

Yana and Brevo would never believe her. She barely believed it.

It didn't take long for the Ohm to send in units to clean out the snipers. Soon enough, a group of Bombardiers hovered nearby the perch and began lobbing acid blobs at the group... However, it seemed as if their pattern was more intent to provide for something else...

As if on queue, one of the GIA snipers got ripped to shreds as an Ohm Assassin came out of stealth. And soon a handful of others emerged, looking to take out the snipers as soon as possible.

Grif opened his mouth to say something, but he promptly forgot what it was.

"Shit!" he improvised as a glob of bio plasma spattered over the rock he was using for cover. He drew back reflexively, rising to a kneeling position. Where had that come fro-

"Shit!" he repeated as he saw the trooper get torn in half. Nobody had said anything about those... the human-y shaped ones. Assassins. Whatever. Nobody had said anything about those.

Grif slung the sniper rifle across his back, rotating it out for the battle rifle that was already hanging there.

"They got guys on the ground too!" he warned, drawing back to sweep over the shadows with the rifle while trying to avoid presenting a target to the bombardiers.

Oh fuck oh fuck oh fuck...

Kali spun, allowing the rifle to catch on its strap as she readied her bow, notching an arrow and hissing low in her throat.

"What are they?!"

She had not been briefed on these, but she knew what they were, in essence. Archer hunters, sniper killers. Removing the potential of support from those on the ground. An intelligent tactic, though not one she thought she would enjoy, coming face to face with them.

She hissed again and loosed an arrow, eyes calm as it pierced the eye. She didn't wait for it to fall, already moving to the next target. "Should we retreat?"
