Lirath - Ground Battle

After dropping off some of the crew at Balisair, it was time for the crew to set course for Lirath. The situation greeting them wasn't the most promising.

The cracked surface of the moon called Lirath was one of its most unmistakeable features. One of the three moons of the planet Kehoe, it had been terraformed and served as a settlement for a hundreds of different species, some humanoid, some not. Despite occasional class struggles, environmental issues, and speciesism blocking their way, the darker parts of Lirath's past were largely left behind, and an era of peace and tolerance had reigned for quite some time. The only problems they'd had recently were with a terrorist group whose cause for their actions had been a mystery, but they weren't tied to any particular species or social group and had been likened to a cult and had largely gone quiet in recent years.

Now the peace on the moon of Lirath had been shattered by the invasion of the Ohm.

The capital city had been destroyed. Now, all that was left of the peoples of Lirath was evacuating from one of its smaller cities, one known as Smyteval. A desert city, existing in a valley in between a rocky range of canyons and mountains, even though it was in the low ground, the natural channels of rock served as bottlenecks for any Ohm attacking from the ground.

GIA squadrons patrolled in space, locked in explosive warfare, protecting the Bleed-gate that had been activated to see the evacuated ships to the refugee world, and a shield created by massively-powerful shield generators extended around the city and up into the atmosphere, creating a shielded tunnel so ships could escape.

Word had come that there was a vital weapon to be deployed on Lirath, one that needed to be destroyed, hence why the Transmigration 9 had been called in. Given the diverse crew, and the ships that were in its hangar, there was at least someone or something on board that could blow the weapon up if it did show.

There was no sign of it yet. Right now, there was just chaos, streams of evacuees boarding ships, armies of Ohm engaged with GIA soldiers outside the shields, and forcefields that everyone hoped would hold out just a little bit longer.

The crew would be following Leon's orders but finding themselves fighting side-by-side with GIA platoons, full of various species that were currently all getting their asses kicked severely.

Kang had fought alongside Nehaa before, but damn, with those new memories, she was even more of a force to be reckoned with. He grinned and neatly sliced the legs off of another Grunt before burying his sword in its head, "They messed with the wrong people."

The aliens from before rushed over to help as even more Grunts swarmed their way, trying to surround them. His grin grew wider as he raised his voice for all in the area to hear and gave encouragement. They looked like they needed it.

Nehaalista nodded, and slammed her mace down on the Grunt's plate until it gave way with a crunch. The ground beneath them turned golden as she continued to carve her way -- well, croquet her way -- through the grunts that had the stupidity to find her.

That was an interesting effect. It didn't get more than a vaguely curious glance before being ignored, and his focus was once more on his enemies. He continued to shout encouragements, helping out the aliens when he could break away from his own. Dodging a claw, he spun around and cut it off at the joint, bringing the Grunt down to its knees.

The fury with which Nehaalista fought was precise and measured. No movement was wasted as she went to work on Grunts, and with Kang's rallying cry collecting more GIA to them, they were ever-so-patiently cutting a swath through the Ohm.

To better communicate, Nehaalista made signs, [Over there, two. Back back up, back up!]

"They're trying to flank," Kang grabbed a man with a tail, one he'd pegged for an officer, and pointed to the left. "Don't let them flank!" The man nodded and waved a few over to help.

He was noticing that as the Grunts attacked him, even if he didn't personally deal a blow himself, they mysteriously got injuries anyways. The same was happening with Nehaa, and anyone close to her. He figured it was a paladin thing and grinned, giving a few newcomers orders of where to go and what to do.

It seemed they were gathering their own little army around them.

[Direct Troops and Rally Troops!]

There was a substantial difference in the way the Light moved through her. She'd noticed it before, but here, it was almost as if the Light commanded her to flow through It.

Of course, it would've been better if the Light had warned her about the bombardier a little sooner than it had. Nehaalista looked up just in time to grab a soldier out of the way as the bombardier attacked. [INCOMING!] Her necklace boomed.

"Shit," Kang cursed, letting out a few in a mix of Nerakese and Korean as well as he reached into one of his pouches and drew out a bit of fur and a piece of amber. "You, back away!"

He pointed at the Bombardier and chanted, "Ast kiranann kair Gadurm Sotharn." Lightning shot out from his fingertips, striking it in the torso and bringing it down to the ground. A few of the Lirathians weren't lucky enough to get out of the way in time as it fell on top of them, leaking acid. It wasn't dead yet, though.

[Get it off them!] Nehaalista signed as she ran towards the dying bombardier. Her furious blows were helped on by shots of golden light, until the bombardier lay still before her.

The acid hissed as it met the metal of her gauntlets, but it didn't stop the paladin from trying to save one of the Lirathians. Her sigil glowed brightly upon her forehead as she offered the Naaru's gift to the poor, injured man.

"Cover me," Kang instructed the Lirathians around him. He pulled a leather loop out of another pouch and focused on the Bombardier corpse, "Elvi nahana teta, d'a min bidyang. Bidyang d'a mina."

It rose up slowly, until it was about ten feet off the ground, giving more than enough room to move the injured out of the way. "I can't hold this more than a few minutes."

[identity profile] dearest-nehaa.livejournal.com 2011-08-14 08:13 am (UTC)(link)
[You heard him!] Nehaalista signed. [Take the injured to the rear! Move, move, move!] She helped where she could, but healing had never been her strong point. With the Lirathians headed to the rear, Nehaalista turned to Kang and wiped a bit of her bright blue blood away from a cut on her cheek. [Shall we? They're not going to wait.]

Once the injured were out of the way, Kang let the corpse drop back to the ground and stuffed the loop back in its place. He switched to his axe, putting his sword back in its sheath, and began moving towards the others, "No, they're not. And I don't want to be caught alone when more of those show up."

And more were on the way, along with Grenadiers and a new wave of Grunts.

[I knew I liked you for a reason,] Nehaalista grinned, and let a magic spell boost through the party, to increase the ferocity of their attacks. She rolled her shoulders and her tail switched irritably against her thighs.

Time to go to work again.

Kang grinned back and turned to shout more orders to their little army. "Anyone with ranged weaponry, focus on taking down the grenadiers and bombardiers. The rest of us will handle the Grunts. Make sure you don't let them flank." He paused, an idea coming to him, and did a quick mental check of his spells.

"I need... 18 volunteers! Nehaa, you're getting it too. Over here, by me."

[identity profile] dearest-nehaa.livejournal.com 2011-08-15 12:17 am (UTC)(link)
Nehaalista tilted her head at him, but did as she was bid and joined them. An oncoming grunt got a taste of holy fire, screeching and crinkling into a smoking shell.

"This will let you move twice as fast. We move together, and we cover the others where they need it. It won't last for more than maybe twenty minutes, so make it count." Kang wasted no time in casting the spell. "Arastia-disp-lasr."

Things were about to look a lot worse for the group of two as the ground shook as something rather large burst through one of the many buildings just behind the line of the grunt horde. It seemed they had drawn the attention of a tank as it clambered over the wreckage and began to charge towards the defenders.

It was about at this time a rather large shadow shot over head, a large and particularly bronze shadow, before a sudden bright beam of intense light struck the tank first once, then skewered it with a second blast of light. Thunder rolling from the strikes, leaving the smoking remains of the tank as Crucible tipped on wingtip and arched away in search of further targets.
governorkang: (Well shit / Disgusting)

[personal profile] governorkang 2011-08-15 06:58 am (UTC)(link)
At that shadow, Kang couldn't help the small bit of actual fear and hate that ran through him, ducking down and cursing loudly; it was ingrained in him after years of fighting against metallic dragons during the war, even if logically, he knew that Crucible had no reason to target him on this particular battlefield.

He watched the dragon fly off warily, then eyed the smoking corpse. "There'll probably be more of those, too, if we caught that one's attention."

[identity profile] dearest-nehaa.livejournal.com 2011-08-17 02:20 am (UTC)(link)
Nehaalista drove her hammer into the faceplate of a grunt, surrounded by the hammers of light. She was momentarily caught off-guard by the beams of light and turned her face away.

[Someone will need to alert command - I cannot.] She drew a bluish tongue across her lips. [Where are we moving?] She could see Nokosi's arrows just to west of them, and thanked the Light he was still alive to keep harrying targets.

Shaking off the moment of wariness, Kang snorted and used his commring to inform Command. He pointed to the right and raised his voice so everyone in the group could hear, "That looks like the heaviest concentration of Grunts, and I can see a few Grenadiers. Let's go." And with that, he dashed off, easily killing a trio of Grunts before they could even react due to the Haste spell.
