Billy just managed to spot the light as he landed hard, rolling to keep himself from cracking his head. The distraction was enough to buy him time to scramble to his feet---well, one foot. The injured foot was now just about useless. His plantsuit was trying to grow over the hole and contain the bleeding, but it was an uphill struggle.
