Talking Over Dinner (Closed)

The Ridevendor pulled up in front of Zedd's Palace as the occupant of it got off quickly, a cat leaping off after him. Pulling off his helmet and taking off his gloves, Philip knew he had to hurry since he had looked up the results of this little prom and discovered something a mite confounding.

So, armed with a basket full of a rather heavy food and a bottle, he and Mikku trotted up the stairs and summarily let himself in, only to be teleported to the highest reaches.

"Zedd, are you here?"

"That's right," said Philip, taking a bite of the snake. Oh it was spicy! Swallowing, he added, "Which is why I think it's unfair everyone is looking down on you. It's like a cascade really and with such a bias, no one will think twice before attacking you if you did anything or hinted towards it."

"Having no one to stand up for you is the hardest part of being here."

"Everyone looks down on me because they think they can get away with it. Because their precious Stacy will protect them and their pretty-boy captain will make sure I get locked away for all eternity if I don't bow down to him!" Zedd said, trying not to raise his voice.

It was infuriating, to say the least. "You're right, though - I'm certain that, one day, I will do something and the next thing you know, they'll be on top of me so fast my head will spin! But, then, I'll be in the right - they'll be the guilty ones because they're the ones who kept teasing the lion in the cage."

"Mmm," replied Philip, swallowing a bite of his food. "At that time I'll be obliged to stop you obviously, but I get where you're coming from. A caged lion is just as dangerous as one roaming free. People don't respect you because of the ones in power casually toss you aside, when they're shunning a potent resource."

"Not that you're just a resource," added Philip, poking a forkful of the food. "You're a crewmate, and as such they should treat you with respect, rather than giving everyone a reason to mock you."

"But, they'll never see it that way, will they?" Zedd said, taking a bite. "But, it's pick-and-choose with this group. They absolutely adore that book Zetta so much, they made him a Councilor. Yet, that one creature, Iniss? Ha! Those paranoid brats are so willing to demonize him that when he tried to be a Councilor, they demonized him because of who he was!"

"Oh, that would be a fun thing to do - make this crew see that, in the end, there are no "good guys", just people who can't stand one another and make others suffer just to feel better about themselves!"

"It is rather selective isn't it?" Philip thought of everyone he pulled up files on, which was a lot. "It's not like everyone here has a spotless record anyhow."

"There are good guys, but they're known as heroes. Heroes on their own terms actually. Ever considered becoming an anti-hero? One who fights for his own whims and doesn't answer to anyone else no matter how much it's condemned?"

Zedd visibly shuddered. It doesn't matter what packaging you wrap it in, Philip was suggesting he'd do something good. He still feels dirty from when he had to help rescue Tommy from the Machine Empire.

"And then what? I'd probably be still treated as I am now!" Zedd said.

"Hmm true. That probably wouldn't solve anything," admitted Philip, pushing a little snake around before taking a bite. "If anything, it'd probably make things worse come to think about it."

"There's got to be something to at least keep people from mocking you."

Zedd messed with his own snake for a little while before an idea came to him.

"Let them mock me." Zedd said. "As it stands, I could turn over a new leaf and someone out there will think it's funny to keep poking me. Just that when they need me the most, I won't help them. Simple as that."

He was set here to stop a war. He was considered a civilian, by all rights. He could just sit back and let everyone suffer. At the very most, he'd probably get brigged, but at the very least, there'd be something that would need him and he wouldn't give any sort of help.

"At this point, it seems like the most viable idea," said Philip in agreement. "They know you're evil, even if they don't respect you. But..."

He looked up. "If you intentionally cause tears, as your friend I'll have to shut you down."

Wait, WHAT did he say?!
