The Carousel Boutique [Open]

Rarity stood in the simulation of The Carousel Boutique, recalling the colours and atmosphere of the place. A hologram of Opalescence was sitting on the table, swishing its tail and looking at Rarity.

"Do you think this gem would do, Opalescence?" She levitated a red gem and the cat blinked. "Or this one?" Rarity asked, levitating a blue one. The feline mewed and stretched.

The unicorn smiled and continued to play-work with the pony outfit she was currently pre-occupied with.

To each her own! He had no intention of judging her. Besides, from what little he'd sensed shortly after he'd wandered in, that wasn't anywhere close to her talent.

"Yes... she actually has an amazingly strong chi. If I can figure out how to adapt what I know for her, she'll be amazing. I just hope she's sleeping well now."

Again he pulled himself out of more serious thoughts to look at her work curiously. "...Wow. You are good." (This coming from a man who had custom-tailored Armani suits!) "I don't mind the plantsuit so much, so I've been holding off on trying to get any clothing for myself. I hear our supplies don't even really allow for something for everyone, so I don't mind going without. I'm... probably not going to the prom?" he said, not entirely sure. "Despite certain scurrilous opinions of my magneticism, I don't have anyone to go with."

"Huh. Well...I guess I could," she had to admit to herself. "Wasn't planning on it, not after the Gala was a right mess. But we'd be ready to make our own fun this time, right?"

She eyed the sketches one by one, shifting so that Opal could have a peek too. "So long as I have a hat and it won't get in my way, it'll do," she nodded. After the last disaster at the fashion show, she knew better than to make too many suggestions.

"Chi? What's that?" Rarity asked once more before widening her eyes at the mention of him not going to the prom. "You can always go with your friends. That's what I did with Applejack along with our other friends last time. We had an excellent time eating donuts!"

She then eyed him up and down. Her customers so far have been female and she had yet to design anything for males. "I do need to practice human male fashion design as well but they have yet to visit the shop."

"The Carousel Boutique, a clothes shop from back home." Opalescence jumped off the table and meowed. "And that is my cat, Opalescence." Rarity gestured to her pet as it looked and examined the new guest with curiosity.

"I see." Hank says with his hand on his chin. He smiles as he reaches down to pet Opalescence. "Aw, what a cute cat."

"Life force, would be another way to term it. Vital energy. It flows through all living creatures. And I don't have many friends on the ship yet." At least in his opinion, no matter the effort he'd gone to make them thus far. "Except for one, who I'll never get to the prom anyway... still nursing a hurt heart, among other reasons."

She was just trying to tempt him. He smiled, recognizing that even as it worked just a little. "Well. I still would feel guilty about taking from others who need it more, but I could be persuaded to model for you, at least. I can do THAT much!"

"I work and live with Rein at Stormwind Clothiers now." Rarity thought over his last question. "I'm not sure if I would, the clothiers has all the resources I need."

"There's always food and drinks at the party. I'll be there to have fun too! You can join Applejack and I."

Rarity was getting excited at the potential of making her very first human male outfit. "There are plenty of resources, don't worry. If you're worried about the payment, you can do so by being my model. Everyone deserves to be dressed nicely."

She was resisting the urge to levitate the measuring tape as well as her sketch pad. Opalescence mewed once more and rubbed Morgan's legs as a plea.

"Thank you." Rarity replied as she got back to work before thinking, "Do you need an outfit for the space prom too?"

He nodded. "Makes sense. So do you have a particular specialty, or are you a jack of all trades?"

Boy, did this place ever look... happy.

"Space prom?" Hank asks, curious. "First time I've heard of it. I suppose I could use something a little more formal than what I have right now."

He just shook his head, though he was still smiling. "Well, it would be rude of me to argue now that you've said all that! I'm used to dressing very simply, so to assuage my guilt, can you make something that's both excellent for a prom and yet simple enough to wear around the ship? I at least promise not to wear it while I'm exercising."

"Of course, we will have fun with donuts and chocolate. Do you want it to be similar to what you wore at the gala?" Rarity figured that her friend would prefer something familiar and she could tweak the colours and pattern on Applejack's original gala dress.

Rarity examined him up and down before making a decision. "I think something red and white for you would be good. To compliment your hair and skin tone."

"I have seen suits as formal wear for human males... Even without the jacket, you would still have the long sleeves that may not be simple enough. Hmm..." Rarity poked around with her sketch pad, the pants could be worn for any occasion but the shirts were proving to be tricky.

"I guess making clothes is my only specialty though I am really good at designing pony dresses."

Opalescence climbed onto the dress Rarity was making and the unicorn levitated the cat away. "Opalescence, no. You have your basket to sleep in."

"Fancy parties, always full of hoof-lickin' good food. ...'cept I'm not supposed to lick 'em," Applejack said sheepishly. "Well I guess I could spare a few."

She thought back on her memory of that dress. It had worked. "Sure thing, it could've been a lot worse. Like what I picked out," she grinned. "You trying something new for yours?"

He leaned over to look at her sketch pad curiously. "What about layers? Undershirt, semiformal button-down shirt, jacket. For casual use just the undershirt is fine. With the button-down and the jacket, it's stylish and classy enough that I could safely make an appearance at the prom in even your company!"

Though after knowing Rarity for all of five minutes, he somehow suspected the trickiest person to get dressed up would be Applejack...

"The best thing is to enjoy yourself, Applejack." She was thinking about her dress too. "I thought of a combination between my gala dress and the one I wore to Fluttershy's last fashion show. It would be difficult but I'm sure I would manage it."

Rarity's horn glowed brightly as the pencil drew the sketches at top speed. "This is a brilliant idea! I suppose you want to stick to black and white as well?"

"Hmm, well, I do like red." Hank looks at some of the mannequins and sees that they are more equine than human.

"I don't suppose you normally tailor for humans?"

"You are correct. I have recently learned how to do so while working at the clothiers though. I came here because I miss designing for ponies."

Rarity takes out a sketch pad and draws up a lovely white suit with a red shirt for Hank.

"If I was choosing, yes, but I leave that to you. I wear black because it's simple and easy and I look good in it, but anyone who tells me I really ought to wear more colors is right." He lowered his voice conspiratorially. "No matter how much I protest."

He watches the pencil move by what was undoubtedly magic, intrigued. Of course, a unicorn having magic made sense, but it was still interesting to watch.

"That's kind of what I do too!" Megan told her with an enthusiastic grin.

"I usually just shapeshift my clothes but sometimes I had real things to wear if it was a special day back home. I think all the clothes I physically owned might have been dresses come to think of it."

Pinkie had heard of the Sensoriums and what they could do, but this was the first time she had been able to try them out for herself. Her plan was to try and recreate Sugarcube Corner, so you can imagine her surprise when she stepped in and found herself in front of Rarity's boutique, instead.

"Hey! This thing is broken!" She announced loudly as she burst through the door, but then her demeanor changed immediately. "Rarity!"

She dashed over to her friend excitedly. "Hi Rarity! Applejack told me you were here too but I hadn't seen you, but now I have and this is great!"
