The Open D/Meeting New People

It'd been a few days since Shoutarou put up the announcement about the Agency being open for business.

Granted, 'business' was a relative term on board Stacey, and given the general peaceful nature of the ship, Shoutarou didn't expect much - which was a good thing, as he hasn't gotten much. Or, well, anything so far.

He can only patrol so much, same with sitting in on brig folks - he can't hog all the shifts to stay busy. So for now, he's kicked back at his desk, feet propped up while he sips at a bit of coffee.

Someone should poke him before he starts to monologue to himself. He'll do it!

Shoutarou rubs the bridge of his nose for a moment, thinking. He snaps his fingers after a moment. "Ah, right - Philip mentioned you after he found me at the introductions. Knight, right?" Shoutarou stood up, and held a hand out for a handshake. "Nice to meet you, and..." A pause, and a faint smile crosses his face. "Thank you, and those at your place for looking out for Philip while I wasn't around. I really appreciate it."

"Yeah," Ren answered, shaking his hand. He had to admit that he felt a little easier about Shoutarou--maybe he still didn't know him, but at the very least, he knew that he tried to look after Philip. And given what he'd seen from Philip... "Seems like he sometimes needs a full-time babysitter."

Shoutarou pulls his hand back and puts both on his hips with a slightly amused looks. "Yeah..." Something he hasn't done in a long time, and ...well, quite frankly, something that he missed doing. He wasn't going to ask Philip to move out of a place he'd taken to, though - nor did he want to intrude on a status quo. "He can be a handful sometimes, especially when he gets focused on something, but I wouldn't have anyone else for a partner."

"You're lucky," Ren had to admit. It had taken him a long time to get used to the idea that Riders could be allies instead of enemies and that it was actually a good thing for them to be friends. But everything Philip had helped him through in the past few weeks or however long it had been since the Melting Clock debacle had started had given him a lot more perspective on it.

Shoutarou nods, glancing aside. "I know... I spent a year without him before I woke up here. It's not something I'm in any hurry to do again." Even with Terui there to help, it just wasn't the same.

A year--it was hell to think about, and Ren knew it was even worse to go through.

"I know the feeling," he admitted. "I went though something similar, though a little different." He wasn't eager to discuss the exact details, but he could definitely sympathize.

Shoutarou nods a bit at Ren. He knows it's rough enough to admit it - asking about detail is just something you don't do.

Perhaps it's time for a subject shift. "I s'pose I need to come by the teahouse sometime." He looks around at the stacks of books in the building, then sighs. "Philip said he ran out of room for books there, so I can only imagine that it looks more like a library than a teahouse..."

Ren was grateful for the change in subject. Talking about loss was hard. Talking about something you want to lose? Very easy.

"That's one way of putting it," he said, folding his arms. "Watch your step when you're there and don't lean against anything." It had become something of a daily routine to avoid having thick tomes fall on your head.
