Idleness (Open)

Lately Ben had been kind of restless, and thus had been buzzing around the city. It was way too quiet with everything going on, and as much as he hated being idle, there was really no helping it at times.

He had gotten a RideVendor remote from Philip and had taken out one of the cycles for a spin. A few false starts and he was roaring around the city at a breakneck pace before pulling up to the park. Removing his helmet, he brushed his hair of sweat. "I really like motorcycles," he declared to no one as he got off and began to do a few warm ups.

While training in the sensoriums was always fun, he was often finding himself preferring the city more and more, and he selected an alien from his watch, an old standby favorite.

"CANNONBOLT!" yelled Ben as he began to roll and bounce all over the place.

"At your age, that's not a very good excuse anymore," Jeka said. "I know that human brains don't completely finish developing until the early twenties, but--"

She paused mid-sentence, suddenly horrified. When Ra's al Ghul had saved her life, he'd spliced human DNA in with her Orandian DNA. She hadn't noticed any particular change in her mental capacity, but what if...

"Ugh." Jeka sighed heavily, scrubbing a hand over her face. "Nothing, just one more worry to nag at me. And nothing I can sprocking check either, so..."

She sighed again, flapping her hand in Ben's direction. "Just try to keep other people in mind next time you decide to blow off steam in your other shape. You seem like a nice enough person, you'd probably feel bad if you accidentally hurt someone."

"No, you can't," Jeka agreed. 'Genetic device', huh? Interesting. "So what does it do, take a DNA sample and alter your genes so that you're a new species?"

"Fixes genetic damage? That must be handy," Jeka said. "I assume only if you have a proper record of the person's DNA to start with, right?"

"But if the DNA is damaged, how does it know what the undamaged DNA ought to look like?" Jeka asked, mentally bearing down on the bubble of something-she-wasn't-even-going-to-put-a-name-to she felt rising in the back of her mind.

It probably wouldn't even work on species outside of Ben's reality.
