It seemed that she had spruced up the place only a few days ago, and here she was again, making sure that the bus was good and ready for Katara. There was little to do of course, but she found doing this helped her to quell some of the anxiety she was feeling. The GAang had their waterbender after all, what need would they have for Kaya? She didn't want to think that was the case of course, which was why she had put that front for Azula, but she couldn't act like she didn't feel that a little. Which was why she wanted to have a chance to talk to Katara at length, and quell her fears about anything else. Despite everything, this was her teacher, and she had been in her head a long time before she had her own. There was no one else she respected, more besides Aang, from their world. Katara being here meant that they at least had another piece of their world here on the ship

Which was why, in the common are, she's prepared several soups and fish based foods (based, since they were alien fish, after all). She wiped her brow, and waited for her teacher: she had, after all, been very explicit about the directions.

Hoo boy. Here was another foray into the weird.

"Well, I don't know if he told you, but Negi is a mage: essentially, a very powerful wizard that knows magic, in and out. And while he's perfectly capable of handling himself in most instances, he can get hurt, even killed. Well, there's a way to give hi power and help him: you create a Pactio, where you kiss him, and it brings out a card that gives you the ability to give him strength. But it also gives YOU, the one he made the Pactio with, strength too. Observe."

She brought her hands out. "Adeat!"

The blue robes she wore were now replaced with shimmering white robes, and in Kaya's hand she held a glittering white chalice, which was now filled with water.

Katara wouldn't say that it was weird as much as it was awesome. "That is very impressive!" she exclaimed, clapping her hands together. "It was also very nice of you to do that for him."

Kaya grinned. "It can heal just about any wound instantaneously: its like our water healing abilities, only it can heal more extensively, like wounds caused by magic and things. Abeat."

The chalice and white robes vanished, and she was back to normal again. "One of the best things about being on this ship: there's always a way to sharpen, even enhance the things you already know!"

If there was one thing Katara liked doing in her free time, it was learning how to hone her skills as a waterbender. "That might be one of the things I'm really excited about," she admitted. "Honing myself here to be the best that I can be."

"That's a feeling I share with you," she said, giving her a smile. "When I came here and saw all of this, I tried training with things that I could do without bending. I figured if there ever came a time I had to fight without water, I could do it. As it turned out, that wound up enhancing my bending skills, not making them worse."

Katara nodded. "That makes sense, I think. After all, waterbending can sometimes be a form of combat as well." There was much more to it than that, though, even if it seemed to Katara that lately, her bending powers had mostly been used for battle. "I suppose that learning some martial arts techniques would not be a bad idea."

"Well..." Kaya looked a little sheepish. "I've learned a bit more than that, actually. In all the time here, I figured being versatile with more than one form of fighting might be possible. So I learned swordfighting, some grappling, hand to hand fighting and kicking, and one particular form of fighting called The Weirding Way. I'm not an expert, that would take years, but I definitely have more control of my nerves and movement now. It bothered Sokka a lot when he thought I was you though: thought I was moving away from the ways of our people. He was right in a way, but he had to learn new ways to adapt too: I believe he knows how to use a gun."

"I'm impressed," Katara said. "That's a lot to learn." She wasn't sure if she wanted to go as far with learning as Kaya had, but it was certainly something to think about. Mostly, she just wanted to learn how to defend herself were she to find herself in a situation without any water nearby. "I think that adapting is important," she added. "Sometimes, its the only way to survive."

"You don't have to learn that much, of course," Kaya added. "With me, I sort of thought adapting to any sort of situation is important. It may seem a bit extreme, but really? You never know what's out there. I just like to be prepared."

That, and there were several people she loved whose lives depended on her not neglecting her training.

"I agree," she said. "But we can take everything one step at a time. No point in bombarding you with all I know, after all. Now: did you have any more questions? I'm sure you must be wondering a lot about what happens next."

"Oh, no, I know," Katara smiled. "And I don't know that I will. But it's something to think about," she added. The fact of the matter was that they would work best if everyone diversified, if everyone was good at different things. The more skills that there were in war, the better. Kaya, Katara thought, seemed to understand that very well.

"My brain's still trying to process everything I've learned so far," she admitted after a moment. "It's quite a lot."

"And you did teach me, more than anything, that even if you didn't know what was going to happen, if the enemy attacked in an unfamiliar way, the best thing to do was to keep fighting and then find the best way to take him down with what you knew."

That made sense. "If you can, talk to Billy in Engineering about technology and all. He's a good friend of mine, well, more than that, and he would definitely want to help you."
