"Listening to others, considering well what they say" (Part 3: Maingate Hotel)

The Maingate Hotel was pretty extravagant, and an entire section of it had been eked out for the crew's use during their stay. They had several suites, three communal areas, a conference room, their own kitchen with a chef on call if they required her.

They were all teleported from the main teleport pad of the hotel into the conference room, which was a large enough room to be able to hold a group their size and had plenty of chairs arranged in a circular pattern so they could mostly all face each other or whoever was in the middle of the room.

Everyone had to settle down so they were all able to talk, and the meeting itself would have to be carefully controlled so they wouldn't all talk over each other. But they were up for the task, right?

"A bit of experience. Dabbling, I'd even say. Now! You ought to try more diplomacy, you know. I bet you'd be brilliant at it."

He wasn't lying when he said that, giving Zouichi a friendly clap on the shoulder as if they were old friends and he knew there was a diplomat in there somewhere. After all, he seemed like a pleasant enough fella and the Doctor considered himself a decent judge of character, except when he wasn't. But hopefully he was this time, because Zouichi looked like a good man upon a first impression and he was hoping he could keep that first impression.

Well, the Doctor certainly was more demonstrative than most of his acquaintances. But he didn't really mind.

"I suppose I could give it a try," Zouichi said, a little doubtfully. "But we have plenty of people here to handle the diplomacy part already, don't we? Besides, the last time I tried to smooth things over with someone, I ended up with this." He motioned to the mark on his forehead. "Not exactly what you'd call successful negotiations."

Anyway, as far as he could tell, diplomatic discussions involved a few people saying some interesting things and then Zetta expounding loudly and at extreme length about how evil wasn't stupid and he was looking out for everyone and how everyone else was being stupid and wrong and stupid. And somehow still being taken seriously in the discussion.
