"Listening to others, considering well what they say" (Part 3: Maingate Hotel)

The Maingate Hotel was pretty extravagant, and an entire section of it had been eked out for the crew's use during their stay. They had several suites, three communal areas, a conference room, their own kitchen with a chef on call if they required her.

They were all teleported from the main teleport pad of the hotel into the conference room, which was a large enough room to be able to hold a group their size and had plenty of chairs arranged in a circular pattern so they could mostly all face each other or whoever was in the middle of the room.

Everyone had to settle down so they were all able to talk, and the meeting itself would have to be carefully controlled so they wouldn't all talk over each other. But they were up for the task, right?

[ooc: Guardian Setup, General Mingling, Clone Checkup, Newbie Briefing, General Briefing, More Mingling, Back to the Meeting, and The Idea Guy sections are open. Backup characters introduced to the plot can join in the mingling subthreads if they want. The opening of new subthreads will be announced here and the ooc. Please read the linked OOC post for a plot timeline.]

"Well, you do have pages. And a spine, of sorts." The elf chuckled quietly.

"Having a self-described Evil Overlord say we should just use this as leverage, take our technology and go would tend to make some people upset, wouldn't it?" he mused, tapping a finger against his chin.

"Though i said something similar and Kon--the 'super boy' or whatever--jumped down my throat. I swear, it's like these people have never had to make concessions to the 'lesser evil' as it were. Though I'm certain you don't know anything about being lesser." Flattery worked wonders, most of the time.

"It becomes automatic, after awhile. But, it's living Conner, and you've done quiet a lot of that already, yeah?" He smiled quietly, wishing his son was still small enough to be picked up, he sounded like he could use a good hug at the moment. "I think you'll do just fine."

And that wasn't just the confidence of a parent, as far as the people he was looking after at the moment, Conner was the one he had the least fear of being able to thrive.

"Goody-goodies, thinking 'evil' means 'stupid'," the book grumbled. "That guy seriously said that it was just as important to 'fix' this planet's society as it is to save the cosmos from destruction and bring back the countless people and worlds that've already been destroyed. Under what branch of thinking is that anywhere close to SANE, even?!"

The book exhaled sharply, its top half slumping a little. "Their own personal issues are going to wreck this whole thing, and everyone's so freaking unable to see the big picture that they'll let them!"
thewunderkind: (Heh!)

"Oh I get what you mean. We hear their side of the story and then get a better plan of action of what must be done, or nothing done at all and just let the war between them continue. Regardless, it could be a good way to gain invaluable intel."

To put it lightly.

"Yeah, but why make it that complicated if they were just fancy electronics to them? If they didn't care that much, they would have done it as soon as we arrived. It's a lot of smoke and mirrors if you don't really care." Which suddenly reminded her of her other point and she grew quite annoyed. "Speaking of which. The samples they took from all of us on our arrival."
badassfreakingoverlord: (eyebrow raise)

[personal profile] badassfreakingoverlord 2011-06-27 09:35 pm (UTC)(link)
"What about?" Zetta hadn't even really registered those samples, despite having to give one not only for himself, but every single minion as well

"Oh course," Lash replied, not at all thinking this was a harmless suggestion. It wasn't like Hawke didn't use to make some to her as such, no way. "However...I'm not exactly the most subtle person here, tee hee hee!"

Not to mention the hair.

"Think about it," she said, pouting on the table. "Urrgh! I'm just soooooo angry thinking about it! Dangerous bioengineering weapon, my ass! I bet that was just a cover-up too." She looked at him again, clearly not pleased at all. "They have samples from all of us, and highly advanced technology..."

"So what, you're worried they're gonna clonse us?"

Zetta honestly didn't see the problem.

Not quite the way he'd put it, but...

"Basically, yes. We shouldn't let our eagerness to grab this technology blind us to the rest of the situation. We've done that once already." It was strangely easy to explain things to Lash. Talking to a lot of the crew members was, for him, like speaking to a brick wall, but for whatever reason, Lash seemed to listen to what he was saying and actually absorb it.

Bizarre.

"I didn't know people worked on levels here." Hana frowned in thought. "So... What would that make like... Normal people. What level are they?"
thewunderkind: (Emo - Surprised)

[personal profile] thewunderkind 2011-06-27 10:32 pm (UTC)(link)
"Well yeah, I'm definitely worried about that," she replied both surprised that Zetta didn't seem too preoccupied about it, and the fact she was worried about something at all. "You're not?"

[personal profile] badassfreakingoverlord 2011-06-27 10:46 pm (UTC)(link)
"Perfectly normal? One." Easy enough. "For a competent demon, level 50 or so is enough to destroy two million Earth Defense Force spaceships in the space of five minutes or so."

"I'm a book, good luck cloning that," Zetta said. "All they can copy are bodies. Not training, not power, not personality. Even if they made a dozen girls who looked like you, none of them would BE the one and only Wunderkind, right? Cheap copies of us can't compare to the real thing."

[identity profile] hit-girl-mindy.livejournal.com 2011-06-27 10:48 pm (UTC)(link)
"It's the people on the planet that they're concerned with," Hit Girl said, shaking her head. "I mean, I know you're evil, but think about it: if you're a hero, are you really going to let a bunch of government strong hands subjugate people on your watch? Why do you think everyone else NOT on the mission has jumped in with their fucking opinions?"
badassfreakingoverlord: (you said WHAT?!)

[personal profile] badassfreakingoverlord 2011-06-27 11:00 pm (UTC)(link)
"That's exactly why heroes shouldn't be in charge of any of this crap," Zetta growled. "No concept of the big picture. Gotta stop and save every cat in every damn tree they see, even if it means they're too tired and too late to stop the real villain from blowing up the city. And no one but me has the guts to say that hey, maybe we should be worrying about the Ohm and not one planet that for all its troubles still freaking exists, unlike all the ones everyone on the damn ship CAME FROM!"

[identity profile] moms-temperment.livejournal.com 2011-06-27 11:05 pm (UTC)(link)
"Woah!" Hana clearly looked impressed.

"Wait, but if you're like 2000, can't you just blow up all the Ohm?"

[identity profile] hit-girl-mindy.livejournal.com 2011-06-27 11:27 pm (UTC)(link)
"Oh right, like we could trust you BAD GUYS to do the right thing!" Hit Girl snickered. "You guys are just as bad! I mean, just look at Lord Zedd, or that Azula chick! If it were up to them they'd be singled out whoever annoyed them! Nah, just expect this to happen and don't whine about it: seriously, you'll sound as annoying as them. Just stay to what you said. I mean, you ARE following the mission, right?"

Rory had settled off in a corner, untouched sandwich sitting on the table beside him and notes and a datapad full of the offered tech spread across the table.

He needed to gather his thoughts, knew he needed to gather his thoughts. Had to stay focused in order to get everything together. He'd need to dissimulate the information later. He wasn't really meant for this sort of thing, wasn't really the sort of thrived in this environment. But he was the only medic that had gotten a first hand look at the tech. At how they did things.

How was he supposed to say "They can regrow limbs" without coming off as entirely complimentary? How was he supposed to admire their recovery time when most was caused by transplanting organs that had been cloned to cut down on rejection? Or using a clone to provide blood and plasma? He wasn't a doctor, and he couldn't help coming back to the mark. The brand, like these people were nothing more than cattle, incable of being shamed by a caste mark that told all who saw them that they were subhuman.

Couldn't help thinking of Molly and Conner.

Beings created for a purpose with no choice given to them. It would be like randomly assigning jobs to every baby every born. It would be impossible to know anything about the person they'd become, unless it was programed in. Which seemed to be what the plan was here. The hospital had been amazing, beautifully designed, clean, efficient...

He sighed, staring down at his notes. If it weren't for the clones, if they hadn't attacked five members of their party...well, Galilee would have gotten their assistance with no questions asked. And now? Now where did they stand?

"This is bullshit."

Kang was a little more calm on the outside than Kon, but it was still obvious that he was furious over the whole situation. "I'm not surprised there are some still wanting to cozy up with those bastards, telling us to shut up and deal with it like it's the first time it's ever happened to us."

He muttered a few curses in Nerakese, "The Galileeans won't get away with this. Somehow, they're going to get retribution."

Ruff stopped just short of the kitchen and led Mindy in after she was sure no one was coming. Apparently she'd run into people a few too many times rushing through doors.

"Yeah but Howard was being a jerk about it, an we didn't know back then about the clone thing...what's a Nazi?"
badassfreakingoverlord: (determined)

[personal profile] badassfreakingoverlord 2011-06-28 12:14 am (UTC)(link)
The Overlord drew himself up to his full, not terribly impressive height as a book. Despite that, the table gave him enough of a boost so that he could look down at Hit Girl.

"Did you. Honestly. Just lump me. Zetta. The most badass freaking Overlord in the cosmos. Your master. Me. In the same category with Azula and Zedd?"

The Overlord had very few lines, when it came to his disciples, but this may have just crossed one of them.

Dick looked down at Jr., mouth twisting at the sight of the hologram. "Yeah. That's why the question was rhetorical." He was definitely used to it, after all. "Looks like maybe you should have waited on getting that last hair cut."

It wasn't much of a joke as they went, but it was Dick's way. The hologram bothered him, yes, but it didn't change who Jr. was in Dick's eyes. "How're you holding up? Other than righteously pissed off for good reason?"
badassfreakingoverlord: (why am I hurt?!)

[personal profile] badassfreakingoverlord 2011-06-28 12:15 am (UTC)(link)
"Yeah, easily. That's why they sabotaged the Sacred Tome, so I had to bind my soul to the damn book to survive. I can't exactly hit them with a sword or fist at the moment, can I?" Months of this indignity had inured the Overlord to it somewhat, but it still stung.

Hit Girl followed her, then stopped suddenly, looking a little startled, and then followed her in.

"How much of a jerk? If he's the type to be cautious, I'm not surprised he did that. And Nazi's were these guys that blamed all of their problems on a group of people, and then imprisoned, killed and experimented on them. Many of the survivors were traumatized, the ones that lived. It was one of the worst things in my world's history."

She would leave out that these same people were descended from vikings. That would just be a low blow.
