When Marco stumbled across the media library, he concluded that this had to be the best day so far on this freaky meatship.

Music. Massive screens. A giant, alien entertainment centre. And, most importantly - video games.

Marco was immediately drawn to the tall white box with the strange looking controllers. He snorted when he saw the name "Wii" (who though that was a good idea? The puns where almost too easy) but hey, this was clearly gaming of the future. Or gaming of a strange and bizarre alien race - it was hard to tell. Either way, it was cool, and Marco was so going to try it out.

He fished around for a vaguely interesting looking game, bypassing all the ones that looked boring (Wii Fit? Cricket? Imagine: Fashion Idol?! pfft), eventually settling on Escape from Bug Island.

Marco had been a bug before. Waaaaay too many times. Now he could squish them in safe video game fun.

But as Marco began to play, his good mood rapidly diminished. Who thought up this whole "swinging around the controller" thing? What the hell was going on with that animation?

"What the hell is with this?!" He yelled, as he tried to get the control to do what he wanted dammit. "This is nuts! GAMING OF THE FUTURE IS CRAP!"

"Oh, sure!" Bart opened the door. "Actually, I'm pretty sure the sensorium is VR, but I can get it to make one of my favorite games from when I was little."

Marco nodded. The sensorium being VR made sense. But still, Marco hadn't exactly figured out how to play games on it. "Sounds awesome."

Bart was very used to playing VR game. It only took him a few seconds to figure out how to work the sensorium. Then they were surrounded in deep, dark jungle and holding highly advanced guns.

Marco grinned when the scenery changed. Sure, he'd already tried out this place one or twice - but it was still very cool.

He felt a little out of place with the guns, though. Despite the fact that Marco had fought in a war, he wasn't that familiar with them. Mostly they used morphs to fight. He had fired the odd Dracon beam, but they were fairly simple to operate.

The guns were pretty simple. Bart saw him looking at them and held his out. "See, you press the trigger to shoot. You can set it to stun, kill, mildly spark, deep fry, whatever on the side, and when you've gotten enough points, the green button lights up and you can use Ultra Mega Killapalooza mode. But you gotta be careful cause that'd wipe out everyone in range so you've gotta warn me so I can run away."

"Mildly spark?" Marco raised an eyebrow. "And how exactly do we get points? Actually, who are we fighting?"

"Ummm. Anything that moves, I think. I never actually looked at the directions. As for points... run through anything that's floating and it'll give you something." A small but ferocious rabbit burst out of the bushes. "Watch out!" Bart shouted. He zapped it and it exploded into coin-shaped thingies. "Sweet!" Bart ran through them and they vanished.

Marco laughed. "You have got to be kidding me! Is this Mario?"

"What kinda dumb name is that? This is Alfredo. Oh! You need a hat!" Bart handed him a bright blue hat with an A in a white circle.

"Riiight. Alfredo. Of course," Marco wracked his brains, trying to remember if this had ever showed up in any of the comics he'd read. Maybe he'd missed an issue?

He stared at the hat and raised an eyebrow. "And this does...what, other than putting a big blue target on my head?"

This was definitely different to playing any console game.

"It looks cool? And there are bonuses and stuff when you find new ones. And it's got the shield mechanism in it."

Somehow, Marco managed to raise his eyebrow even higher. "Yeah, cool like old men in daggy sweatpants." He put on the hat anyway - yep, he definitely looked like an idiot - cause hey, if it had a shield, at least it could be useful.

With his silly had and weird-looking gun, Marco started moving off into the forest. Taking Bart's advice of "shoot anything that moves", he quickly shot a weird green squirrel-thing that was bounding through the trees. The squirrel-thing exploded, leaving behind a floating stick of broccoli. He stared at it.

"Okay, please don't tell me that the broccoli are the extra lives or something. Because that would just be cruel, man."

"No, it's health. They even taste like broccoli!"

"Wonderful," Marco said, rolling his eyes. "Who thought up that brilliant idea?"

Giving the broccoli a dubious look, Marco sighed. "Can I store this for later or something? I haven't lost any heath. And I really don't feel like eating broccoli for fun."

Bart frowned for a second, then snapped his finger. "Oh, grife, no! It tastes like 30th century broccoli. The stuff that they have in your century's gross, I know. They've genetically engineered it to taste like candy by this point."

Marco looked at the Bart, then the broccoli, then back at Bart again. "It tastes like candy? Okay, listen to me very, very carefully about this. You must never, ever, ever let my friend Ax anywhere near this stuff."

"That's a good idea," Bart said seriously. "You lose points if you chop down trees."

"Broccoli's not a tree it's a cabbage," Marco said idly, putting the health-broccoli away. "Are we trying to get anyway, by the way? You know, save the princess, defeat the big bad, yadda yadda. Or do we just shoot random stuff until we get bored?"

And with that thought, Marco shot a strange walking-flower plant. It squealed and released a bunch of floating coins.
