Kang knew exactly what Marco meant in that omnicomm message, and honestly, he'd halfway expected it. He knew better than to discuss it in detail in any other way besides face to face, so when he found some free time, he made his way over to Cassie's house. The boy could usually be found there.

Sighing, he knocked on the door.

When Marco opened the door and saw he saw standing there, it didn't take long for his expression to transform into a scowl. Kang was not someone he wanted to see. Not now, not anytime soon.

"What?" he said shortly, crossing his arms and giving Kang a level stare.

"I can't say I'm really surprised, and I'm not here to try and change your mind, but we still need to talk," Kang kept his voice neutral, wings rustling slightly.

"I'm not interested in talking," Marco said, not budging from his spot in the doorframe - he had zero intention of letting Kang into the house. His mother might be happy to let the guy in, but Marco definitely wasn't. "And you know, I'd say that you've already done enough talking."

Kang resisted the urge to roll his eyes and squared his shoulders. "I took a risk. I knew the possible consequences of said risk. I'm not asking for forgiveness; all I ask is that you not jeopardize the others and myself by staying silent about the spy group." He kept his voice quiet, even though he'd already checked to make sure no one was near the house.

"That's what you care about? Whether you get to keep your precious little group secret?" Marco said, eyes flashing. "You didn't seem to give a damn about our secret."

"Marco, you were going to attack your mother. You weren't listening to reason at the time, and I had to make sure that no one got hurt because of you. Not only that, but nobody knew what was going on, and for your own safety, you needed to be found," Kang said. "I didn't like doing what I did, but I will protect the crew at all costs. I'm not about to apologize for doing my job. And, if you noticed, I never said a word about the other humans in your group."

Marco drew back a little, not quite able to fully suppress that flinch. "I don't need you to tell me what happened," he said flatly. "I can remember that well enough on my own. But don't you dare try to give me your self-justifying crap. You let me think she was still infested! You make a big fuss about how you had to respect Tom's decisions, but you didn't even think before turning around and tell my Mom she wasn't allowed to let herself get watched for three days. And not saying anything about the others is bullshit. Apart from Ax, me and Rachel were the only ones here! And it's not going to be that hard for people to put two and two together if any of the others wake up again, is it? And now you come here, after fucking up any chance we had of keeping under the radar, and all you care about is whether your secret is safe?"

"Frankly, yes. You are not the only people on this ship, and I will do whatever it takes to protect this crew. If that means releasing information about you when you are a clear and present danger, I will do it," Kang said bluntly. "It's not just my secret, either. There are other people working for me besides your little group, in case you forgot."

"You keep saying that, but you know what? I don't believe you," Marco said dryly. "And you know, that Zouichi guy might have been hell bent on his whole crazy plan to re-enact the Mutant Registration act, but he did make one point. You didn't have to tell the whole goddamn ship. You could have just told Security. You could have just told everyone to watch out for any animals, without actually saying it was us. And even ii the unlikely hypothetical situation where I actually believed that you had no other option, you could have at least fucking apologised for it."

Perhaps if it had been someone else, someone who's relationship with Marco wasn't already very strained, Marco would be more willing to accept Kang's actions. Perhaps he'd have just been pissed off and annoyed, as opposed to reaching the point where he wasn't willing to trust Kang at all. On anything.

"I haven't forgotten. Although you seem to have forgotten about Ax and Rachel in your zealous little quest to make sure I don't snitch. I don't betray my friends, Kang."

Kang's tail lashed once, and he barely held back a hiss. "Believe me or not, that's your choice. I can't take that away from you. I'm not apologizing, either."

And with that, he turned to leave. He didn't feel like arguing with Marco further, and he'd gotten what he wanted.

Figures. As far as Marco was concerned, that just proved that all Kang was interested in was protecting his own interests.

And it didn't take long for the sound of the front door slamming to follow Kang as he left.
