All Hail the Maginificent Time Dragons

The effects of the Melting Clock had been of great concern to the crew for some time now - but thanks to the efforts of those who had negotiated with the Time Dragons, a solution was now in sight.

That solution took the form of four Time Dragons, who had just been brought on board. They were here to destroy the clock - and to collect their booty, of course.

[[ooc: Okay guys! Billy's play will be played out here, as well as the destruction of the Clock (The other exchanges will be handwaved). This is also where the whole crew will be able to approach the Time Dragons. Virgin Princesses should approach with caution!]]

She crossed her arms over her chest. "Do you want the short version, or the long version?"

"How about a version that explains why you think me asking you out is a joke?" he said bitterly. Figures, didn't it? Here at least he can ask a girl out without having to worry about whether she's really a Controller, or whether he might have to blow her off for a mission, but when he does she thinks it's a joke. "Or do you just think that the idea of actually going out with me is a joke, huh? You know, maybe next time you should just try saying 'no' instead."

She looked visibly taken aback. "That's not--" what she'd meant, if it is what she'd said. "You were locked in Quarantine, not wanting to think about what was going on or the implications if we couldn't figure out a source, and barely wanting to answer any question I had to help figure out what was going on. I figured it was a coping mechanism. It wouldn't be the first time someone's made a pass like that to keep themselves distracted from what's really going on."

Not even technically the first time someone had done that to her. "I'm not calling you a joke," she said carefully, some of her irritation falling to the wayside. "And I'm pretty sure what I said at the time is that we could talk about it later. When there wasn't a medical-magical time crisis on our hands."

"Right, so you think I 'cope' by just asking out anyone who happens to be nearby then? Great. Nice to know you have such a high opinion of me." She might be saying she didn't think he was a joke, but he sure as hell still felt like she was.

"Let me guess, 'talking it over later' means that you're just going to say no now, isn't it?" he said flatly.

"Are you asking?"

"I already asked you," Marco said, feeling annoyed. "Apparently you just haven't bothered giving me a real answer yet."

She narrowed her eyes, uncrossed her arms, and sighed. "And now no matter what I say, you're justified in not being happy with it."

Which bothered her in a way she'd probably have hit him over -- if he was Naruto. But that's the problem. No one here is.

She started walking again, looking back at him with half a smile. Self-defeatist, Marco; you are he. "You're going to take half the fun out of it by not actually having to pay for anything."

Marco blinked. Wait, what? "Hang on, was that a yes?" he said, moving to follow her. Somehow after all that, he couldn't quite believe that she was saying yes.

"Then again, I guess the books could count. That was kind of overkill, even for an apology," she mused. Naruto would have at least recognized the allowance for saying yes. She clarified a moment later. "Yes, Marco. For some reason, I'm actually saying yes." Fire help her.

No need to acknowledge that she could figure out some of the reasons -- at least not anything past a shallow level.

"Okay, just so we're absolutely clear here, can you repeat that for me?" Marco said. Screw her reasons, he just wanted to make sure that she wasn't joking this time.

As if she'd been joking the first time! His selective hearing had nothing to do with her. Sakura felt some of her irritation come crawling back, tied in this time with exasperation. "That." She crossed her arms, continuing down the hall. "Yes. I said yes! Do you need that signed and witnessed?"

"No, but it would be nice," Marco said, finally giving her a small (if somewhat subdued) grin. "As long as we don't get Cranky Cogs to be the witness."

"She'd just tell you how terrible you are at asking anyone out."

Marco snorted. "Like she'd think anyone was good at asking people out. Not that she'd know, I doubt anyone's even thought about it for a few millennia."

Sakura groaned. "Oh no, no, I don't need to picture Analog going on dates. Or getting wooed. I've survived that horror once already, thank you!"

"Assuming she ever had any. Come on, who'd ever want to go out with her?"

He kinda wondered if that's where the whole 'virginity' obsession came from. Except he wasn't going to tell Sakura that. No, he was much too busy planning to avoid any possible mention of the word for the rest of his life.

"You assume Time Dragons have something approaching sanity." Little did either of them know that Analog had three mates so far during the course of her existence.

"Barbie, if anyone them think that rustbucket is hot? They are insane."

Probably a good thing. If he knew, Marco would have to bleach out his brain.

"That's if they can even get past their egos long enough to figure out if the other dragon is even still there midway through lunch." A thought struck her, and she grinned. "Though can you imagine what their menu would look like? 'The finest collection of motor oils in the omniverse,'" she said, sing-song. "'Served with a side of personal tribute and absolutely no humility.'"

"Considering the fact that you kept hinting that she eats people? I think I'd rather not know what on her menu, thanks."

She could have pointed out he was safe based on physical sex (if not lack of it), but didn't feel like opening that conversation back up. "No, thank you. Looks like she would have given me an answer without you being there, but at least now I know that. I'm heading back to let everyone in Medical know what's going on."

She waved, clearly dismissing him. "You're all clear to go, as far as anyone's concerned medically."

She set off down the hall. "We'll be in touch." And then she was gone; no point in traveling slowly when she had information to share, and no one to hang back for.

"You bet we will," Marco called after her, just before she ran out of hearing distance.
