Me and Ruffnut down by the Hydro Bay

Ok, so she had totally promised Negi she would be responsible for the pills, but she was only half truthing it. She had, after all, constantly had the whole "only twelve" thing bringing her down in certain situations, and wanted to amend that, at least for a little while. So she was down in the hydroponics bay, filling up mug after mug with the beer, the animals in the bay looking at her momentarily before going about their business.

If they wouldn't let twelve year old Hit Girl drink, they WOULD let nineteen year old Mindy Macready do so. And so when Ruffnut arrived, she would find a taller, more athletic looking blond sitting by the beer tree, one leg up, beer already in hand.

"Took you long enough, Ruff," she said.

Well now she just felt weird doing it now, especially in this...body, which seemed to be getting smaller?

Uh oh.

"Damn it," she cursed, and grabbed one more beer and downed it quickly. "This is wearing off!"

Ruff blinked and then laughed out loud. "Dude that's so weird looking!"

And then, something about the beer gave Ruffnut a surprisingly perceptive thought.

"Hey are you gonna explode?"

...well mostly perceptive.

"Cuz like, you drank a whole lot and not your body's getting smaller so...where's it all gonna go?"

"I dunno where its gonna..." And Mindy swerved, REALLY badly, and fell on the floor pretty hard, swearing, her head spinning. It was all IN her now, and now she was practically salivating.

"Pill, PILL!" She muttered, fumbling for her pockets. "Ruff, a little help!!"

Well, this was scary.

"What's gonna happen?" Ruff asked unsure as she began pat searching Mindy's pockets for the bottle. Little did either of them know it had fallen out during their roughhousing.

"I'm gonna experience it without the..." And here Mindy was reverted back to her usual self, only she was definitely out of it, her eyes half lidded. thank goodness for that cheese bread.

"Woooow. So this is it without getting older. I feel sooo heavy."

Ruff couldn't help but snort and laugh. Mindy had gone from drunk to smashed in minutes. "Here look me in the eyes." She brushed her bangs back to try and meet Mindy's eyes to see how far gone she was.

Mindy raised her eyes to Ruffnut's. She knew she was fucked up, no point in denying it, but she would be damned if she wouldn't meet Ruffnut's gaze with determination and certainty, the same as she would in any situation.

"Damn. Shoulda had the other pill ready," she said, unable to do much more. "Fine, you win. I AM justa kid, right?"

"Nah." Ruff gave Mindy a light push to knock her on her butt but sat down with her. "You're the most badass kid I know." She rubbed Mindy's back reassuringly. "I don't care what happens with this war I'm taking you back to Birk with me."

Mindy chuckled, but hiccuped at the same time. "Yeah well, I don't see what the hell you would want with an orphan that knows about tech farther into the time. By then you'd probably have moved on and found your niche. Why get saddled with me?"

Ruffnut laughed louder, "Now you're just babbling. I don't think niche is even a word."

"You're funny and fun and you kick serious ass. Why wouldn't I want to be friends with you?"

"Of course its a WORD, you..." Mindy trailed off, rubbing her head. "Ow. It even hurts to get angry, damn it. So what, I'm the ass kicking court jester, huh? Somehow I just sound like entertainment. I just prefer to be thought of as an equal, no matter the age."

"Now you're being angry stupid drunk." Ruff argued and held up a crackling fist, "Don't make me zap you. I wouldn't train and fight with you if you weren't my equal dummy."

She paused and looked around, "Alright I'll say it, you're better then me. But don't you dare tell anyone else!"

"You'd zap a drunk kid? What a bitch!" But she actually thought the exact opposite: Ruffnut knew damn well she would defend herself even now, in this state. "And who the hell else would I tell anyway?"

She laughed. "And so you know, if I was older, I WOULD date you, fuck this boy girl stuff. You'd fit me better than anyone else I know on this ship, and I like you and all your arms and legs, dummy."

That gave Ruffnut a start and she snorted into her beer, inhaling it and coughing for a moment as more beer spilled on her shirt and pants.

"You're totally gone!" She laughed finally as her airway cleared and she threw a sopping wet arm around the girl. "And I am gonna remember all this to tell you tomorrow!" That was a teasing threat if ever there was one.

Because seriously girls dating girls? Maybe on some weird planet but not Birk.

Not that she wasn't pleased that at least someone would say that to her while shitfaced.

"They do it on my planet all the time: they say love knows no gender or whatever. Not that YOU have anything to worry about: half the time you're so block headed you wouldn't know if anyone liked you to begin with!"

She took her knees to her chest, shaking her head. Drunk as she was, she was serious. Not that it mattered.

"But I'll probably die before I can get a decent date anyway."

Ruff frowned and bopped Mindy on the head with a lightning free fist.

"What kind of sissy talk is that? You're more kick ass then most the adults around here. Who else can take a bolt of lightning and just wipe the blood from her lips and keep fighting huh? Or take on a whole building of armed dudes by herself?"

Ruff might have glazed over the part about her being thick headed. She admitted that was true.

Mindy made a snorting sound, punching Ruffnut in the back of the head.

"I never said I would go down easy, ass! I'm not talking abut any of the stupid bullshit we've face, I'm talking about the Ohm, the real fucking war. It'll take everything we have to win. I'm not saying I want to lose, but I'll prepare for it. Anyone who steps on the battlefield has to know there;s a chance they won't come back. Risk you take."

She laid her head down. "Besides, dad trained the shit out of me, and HE died. Don't you think I'd be contemplating death coming, somehow, someday?"

"You didn't have to make it sound so pathetic though." Ruff shot back and passed Mindy the bread, "Besides how many months has it been and have you fought any Ohm yet? Other then the things that keep happening on board I say we've probably got plenty of time if battles are always this few and far between."

"Death is boring." She added, "The afterlife is where it's at. Have a glorious death so you're remembered forever and all that. But I guess we're not gonna go to the afterlife for awhile."

"Whatever. Look, where I'm from, death happens, everywhere. It's practically your fucking shadow." She took a hunk of the bread and ate. "And thats my point. I WANT to fight more Ohm, know how they fight, prepare. All we get are these stupid ass missions, and we have an alien species with a bad attitude to deal with. So in a way, we're kind of training in the dark. I need to get more versed in my magic training. Gotta find that Negi."

She snickered. "Not if I can help it. But maybe we can kick death's ass, like the Overlord suggested before."

Ruffnut took some more beer. "You can't even stand up right but you can babble about death and war and stuff. You're so messed up no wonder we're friends."

"DUH, I'm messed up!" Mindy said, giving the viking a look. "Are you seriously doubting that? How many twelve year olds do you know go around cutting people up and agreeing to learn from a demon overlord? Do I look like some of the weak kneed shits on this ship? I'm in this for the long haul, whatever happens!"

"Angry drunk." Ruff warned her again taking some more of the bed and dipping it in the beer to try it out. "I was trying to compliment you but yeah whatever."

"You're an annoying drunk then," Mindy replied, but fell on her back. "Fuck, I'm tired. Just...ignore the shit I said, I guess. And I know you were complimenting me, but I am messed up, that's obvious. Any decent fighter is."

And she crawled over to Ruffnut. "Budge over, your shoulder is my pillow now."

Ruff did as she was bid and lay down.

"I still had a good time, and we're doing this again no matter how annoying you think I am boob grabber." She even went as far as to slip an arm around Mindy to let her sleep more comfortably.

Even if Mindy was frustrated with her she'd done pretty good for a first time drinker.

Some of the stuff though was just plain silly. Girls dating girls? Really? She'd heard stories about sometimes when vikings were alone on the sea too long but still...

"You're one to talk about boob grabbing," Mindy mumbled, "And yeah we are, I'll kick your ass in this next time..."

She smiled, despite herself, and curled up around Ruffnut. She wasn't that annoyed, not really.

"You make stuff fun anyway," she said, closing her eyes.
