A Wandering Feline [Open]

If one were to be about the city they might come across a particular orange tom wandering the streets in that self-assured fashion that cats do. Having made himself known in his draconic form Crucible had decided to explore the city in a form that would draw less attention or the very least, a different sort of attention than he would receive as either Bight or Crucible.

His wanderings in his feline form took him far and wide around the city, from the river, and through various streets all the way to the Drunken Dragon. Which he watched from hiding for some time before padding over towards the tavern and in through the front door. Tail flicking as he peered about the place.

(OOC: Feel free to run into kitty!Crucible anywhere in his wanderings about the city or around the Tavern)

The river!

Zouichi spotted the orange tom padding along from his vantagepoint on the riverbank. Another talking feline, or just an ordinary cat?

"Hello," he said experimentally, curious to see if it would answer.

Hmm. Zouichi plucked a foxtail from the bank growing by him, swishing it back and forth to imitate the movements of a small prey animal. An invitation to play, of course.

Zouichi watched the orange cat crouch down and draw itself up, fascinated. Felines looked so intense when they were about to pounce, even when stalking inedible prey. He varied the movements of the foxtail from side to side, curious to see whether the cat would spring or choose to watch and wait instead.

Zouichi would be significantly harder to knock down than a human man, but that kind of strength would certainly alert him to the unusual nature of said cat. He decided to up the odds a little, bringing the brushy, soft end of the foxtail occasionally juuuuust within paw's reach of the orange tom. Resistance is futile, kitty!

Zouichi smiled as the tom took the bait. He wondered if it were someone's pet; he didn't see a collar, but most of the animals in Hydroponics did not appear to be Earth species.

He whisked the makeshift toy from one side to another, keeping it more or less within the tom's reach to keep its interest.

Cat paws were so small. Also, he liked their whiskers.

He took a seat next to the orange cat, reaching one hand over slowly to gently scratch behind its ears and at the back of its neck.

"You know, I think cats on this ship can actually talk more often than not. I've met at least one, but I guess you're not one of them." Zouichi smiled. "So is someone keeping you fed? You're kind of friendly to be a stray, aren't you?"

"I guess you can't really understand me, huh?"

Zouichi smiled as the tom tilted its head into the scratches, moving his fingers down to scratch along the cat's back. He'd never been able to pet a real cat before, and this one's fur was so soft.

"Actually, I've been thinking about that. There's no real reason for me to like or dislike animals -- that's what Nishu would have said. So maybe part of it is that you can't understand." Well, that and the cuteness factor.

"Words fail sometimes. Or the people speaking them are trying to deceive you for some reason -- maybe they feel guilt, maybe they want something from you, maybe they're trying to deceive themselves as well. Maybe when we developed speech, we were only causing more trouble for ourselves -- a million more possible conflicts and misunderstandings with each word we invented."

Aww, stretching kitty. Zouichi obliged the cat with more scritches. "But maybe I'm overthinking it a little."

He sighed, finally standing up. "I guess I should get going. I'll try and remember to bring you a treat next time, okay? Stay out of trouble."

And with that, he strode back off toward the Inn -- for once, he actually had his hands full with a project, and it probably wouldn't do to leave it be for too long.

Angkor Wat

Rose was out exploring the City, wanting to stretch her legs after another stint with GLaDOS. She was studying the wall carvings when the cat caught her eye, his ginger fur standing out against the greens and grays of the temple. She'd had a cat just like him back on the Estate.

Her fingers practically itched to pet him, but she stayed her hand; you never knew what you'd find on Stacy. "Hi there."

Rose watched him approach curiously, wondering if he was a fellow crew member or a pet someone picked up during shore leave. Best to play it safe and try not to offend him, in case he wasn't just a house-cat. "Lovely place, isn't it? I never had a chance to see it before in person." She knelt down so that she wasn't looming.

Rose would feel like an idiot when she found out he wasn't just a cat, but there was just something magnetic about cute little animals. She reached out and gently scratched along his back. "I've got a friend who'd be so jealous of your coat. He's very old and silly, though."

Rose happily obliged with the scritches, smiling. For all that she loved the mad adventures that made up her life, it was nice having a moment that resembled normalcy.

"Wish I could take you home; it'd be nice having some company around. Though..." Up close, she could tell that his fur was in good condition and that he wasn't underfed. And, if the lack of collar was any indication, he didn't have an owner. "You seem to be doing alright on your own, right, puss?"

[identity profile] burntlikethesun.livejournal.com 2011-10-20 07:11 am (UTC)(link)
He was being really adorable, all fuzzy and purring. If he kept it up, Rose wouldn't be held responsible for any catnapping that might ensue.

"Proud of yourself, aren't ya?" It was easy to imagine the cocky expression he'd probably be wearing if he were human. She laughed. "That'd be more impressive if you were, you know, taller." She paused her scritches to consider this. "Though, I dunno, you might be tall for a cat."

(No problem. Good luck with your schoolwork!)

No problem

[identity profile] burntlikethesun.livejournal.com 2011-11-08 08:49 am (UTC)(link)
Well, it's a good thing that Rose wasn't looking to take on the responsibility of a pet. Not when she could so easily go on a mission and never return, and few people to care for him in her absence.

She blinked back at him and graciously resumed the scritching. "You're right; holdin' your own on this ship, a thing like height wouldn't stop you."

[identity profile] burntlikethesun.livejournal.com 2011-11-09 08:47 am (UTC)(link)
Rose straightened up, watching him go with a smile. Leave it to a cat to do everything on his own terms. But it was kind of him to stay for as long as he had.

Now... what had she been doing before getting sidetracked? Oh, yes, the stone reliefs.
