But why is the cake gone? [Open]

After several weeks, thinking with portals got old. Really old. But at least GLaDOS had the courtesy to drop Cassie off at med bay when it (she?) was done with her.

"You stupid freaking- do you know how hard it is to hold that gun with one hand?" Not to mention the rest of the scars. Cassie rolled her eyes and held up her left hand so she could get a good look at it now that she wasn't being forced to run around like a rat.

The color was good and everything was still in place. Looked like the skin graft had taken but better safe than sorry. She could test out moving her fingers after she got the O.K. from the doctor.

"Not bad."

"[Yes, several people on board seem to be losing time and aging backwards,]" Jonas said. "[Apparently, it is caused by a clock that they encountered on the planet where we had our last Shore Leave. Would you rather I go look for real food or fill you in on the details?]"

"[Your wish is my command,]" Jonas drawled, sitting down on the exam table next to her. "[As I said, we recently had Shore Leave on a planet called XaXing. The whole planet was a bazaar, and everyone on it was either trying to sell you something or buy something from you so that they could sell it to someone else. Memories could be copied and sold there.]"

That he had made a point to avoid. His life was already complicated as it was. "[Several people apparently encountered a clock merchant who showed them a clock that looked like it was out of a Salvador Dali painting, and since they've returned to the ship, they have started aging backwards in irregular spurts and jumps. They remember their time on board the ship, albeit in a confused fashion, but they are forgetting things from their own timelines.]"

Jonas put his arm around her, holding her close and upright. And, all right, he technically started scanning her, subtly. In case there was anything he could determine and point out to the medical personnel.

"[They seem to be aging backwards in fits and starts rather than at any particularly smooth rate, at least as far as I am able to determine,]" he said. "[I and everyone else certainly hopes that they will be able to reverse it soon. Kate and her boyfriend are not among the sufferers, but several members of Security are.]"

He adjusted his position to better support her weight and stroke her hair. "[I am relieved you missed it as well,]" he said. "[I picked up a few things for you on XaXing -- I did not remember that you were on board, but at the time I thought it would be nice for you to have some proper clothes when you emerged from the Pod Caverns.]"

He also had a change of clothes in the other Young Avengers' sizes, though he had let Kate do her own shopping.

"[I bought a couple of belts too,]" Jonas said. Hopefully that would at least keep them on her until she gained her weight back. "[And if they do not fit you now, we can call them something to look forward to later.]"

At least she did not seem perturbed by his knowledge of her normal clothing size.

"[I am glad you are free of the mazes as well,]" Jonas agreed, stroking her hair again. "[Speaking of, are you sure that you do not want me to fetch you something to eat?]"

"[I merely doubt that your captor was concerned with your proper nutrition.]"

She really, really was too skinny.

Jonas pressed his lips together into a thin line. It undoubtedly was not particularly Avenger-like to be pleased at the deaths of an entire shipload of aliens, but he really could not bring himself to care in this case.

"[I was speaking of GLaDOS,]" he said almost-lightly. "[You know how I worry.]"
