Med Bay: Part Two

With the end of Quarantine, all of the patients who'd been kept in the bubbles had been released (with the exception of those that Medical felt weren't safe to release), and brought back to the Med Bay proper. Some of them might leave, with family or friends to look after them, but others might remain in the Med Bay. Others still were only just arriving, their loss of time not discovered until after Quarantine had ended.

But regardless of whether the affected were staying in the Med Bay or leaving, until this crisis was solved, Medical would continue to check up on the them.

[[ooc: Just make whatever threads you'd like to have set in med bay guys, and feel free to use this post for all Med Bay stuff for the rest of the plot. Just make sure to mark whether your thread is open, closed, or just for a particular group of people, e.g. Medical staff]]

[Closed to Eva]

ImageNow that he'd finally gotten out of that stupid bubble, Marco was trying to figure out where the hell he was going to go now. Rachel was still stuck in a bubble (guess they thought she was too insane, huh? But it was weird. Rachel was crazy, yeah, but it's not like she'd go psycho on everyone. Why let him out and not her?), and back at Cassie's house there was just Ax. Who Marco still didn't really know if he could trust - yeah, he was Elfangor's brother, and Marco had wanted to help him get back to his home.

Didn't mean he felt comfortable trusting the guy while he was on the fast track to being six years old again.

With his back to the door, Marco sat on one of the beds fiddling around with his omnicomm as he tried to figure out whether it was better to stay in the Med Bay or head back to Cassie's.

His hair is longer than she thought it would be. It surprises her.

She pauses in the doorway for a moment, wondering if it would be better to turn back and let him stay relatively at peace. She knows she looks different than he'll remember her - older, scarred - and she doesn't know what story she should give for being gone. The honest one, maybe. How do you apologize for being dead? For being kidnapped? Does he know about the Yeerks yet?

She considers walking and just waiting it out until he deages to ten years old and his age just solves these problems.

"Marco?"

ImageMarco froze.

He knew that voice. He'd heard it every day, right up until two years ago. But it couldn't...she was gone...

(Except Sakura had tried to tell him that his mother was here, hadn't she? And Elfangor had been here, even Marco had seen him die with his own eyes...)

For one moment he was almost too terrified to turn around, and find that he'd just been imagining things. But then he was spinning around before he could even thinking about it.

It was her His mom. Alive!

"Mom?" he whispered, staring at her like he was seeing a ghost. He was seeing a ghost. And if he hadn't already been sitting on the bed, he'd probably have fallen over.

For her it's only been a few days since she saw him, but she hasn't seen him like this, and she's wanted to take him in her arms since this whole mess started. So he doesn't get much chance to stare before she's rushed up to him and embraced him, squeezing tightly.

She's not Visser One to him anymore. She's not the rescued damsel to be protected at all costs. She's just his mother, returning.

"You didn't think I'd miss Mother's Day, did you?" she squeaks out through a choked voice.

ImageMarco didn't have anything to say. He just clung to her, burying his face in her shoulder and sobbing.

She was right there, and he still couldn't quite believe it. She was alive. Alive.

She fails to keep from sobbing herself. She holds him close, stroking the back of his hair, until he's cried out. She's distantly reminded of that time on the mountaintop, that strike of realization that he was free and not infested like she thought, and tries to remember the emotions that come with finding someone you've accepted losing. She takes a few deep breaths. "I'm going to take you back to stay at Cassie's house with me now, alright?"

Image"Alright," Marco said, sniffing and trying to wipe some of the tears away with his palm. He felt like he should be saying something - some of all those things he'd wished he could tell her, once he couldn't talk to her at all anymore, maybe - except faced with her Marco found he couldn't think of anything to to say.

What do you even say to your dead mother?

She kisses his forehead like she used to when he was much younger, then leans back and looks at him. Except for the hair, and the tears, obviously, he looks just like she imagined he would at this age. The closest she ever saw to him this old was during the Royan Island project, and she'd been a bit busy despairing to really get a good look.

"Okay, sweetheart, I'm glad you missed me, but let's stop tangling up the Med Bay and go home," she whispers.

ImageMarco nodded, a bit more composed now. "So, does this mean you're going to start making me clean my room again?" he said, his voice hoarse, but it didn't hide the fact that he was ridiculously, deliriously happy.

"And do the dishes. I might even make you eat your vegetables, and if you complain about that too much I'll make you clean your own laundry." She leads him out of the Med Bay, one hand hovering around his shoulder, her wondering if she can bear to ask him what his life's like back home.

She drops her hand back to her side, rubbing her thumb and fingers together, deciding against asking. "I missed you, guagua." In that brief interim when the deaging first hit, but also in those years away. She sounds like she's never meant anything more.

ImageMarco grinned, feeling strangely happy about the idea of being made to eat vegetables and do the dishes. He'd had to do stuff like cleaning back home anyway, but his dad had never made him did. Marco had just had to do it himself because his father wouldn't. "I missed you too, Mom. And I'll do anything you want, really. Just don't make me eat any broccoli."
