Med Bay: Part Two

With the end of Quarantine, all of the patients who'd been kept in the bubbles had been released (with the exception of those that Medical felt weren't safe to release), and brought back to the Med Bay proper. Some of them might leave, with family or friends to look after them, but others might remain in the Med Bay. Others still were only just arriving, their loss of time not discovered until after Quarantine had ended.

But regardless of whether the affected were staying in the Med Bay or leaving, until this crisis was solved, Medical would continue to check up on the them.

[[ooc: Just make whatever threads you'd like to have set in med bay guys, and feel free to use this post for all Med Bay stuff for the rest of the plot. Just make sure to mark whether your thread is open, closed, or just for a particular group of people, e.g. Medical staff]]

Go Fish! [Round One: Miranda, Rory, Sakura]

Medical was in a lull for the moment, most of those still in the Bay proper asleep or talking in low voices among each other. Which left the staff awake and around to keep an eye on things for the duration.

A duration three of them were currently trying to fill in with a simple little card game. "It's a lot quieter now than when we had people over in Quarantine." Sakura looked over at her companions. "The point is to end up with matching sets of cards?"

"Do you think we'll be able to figure it?" Miranda said, biting her lip a little. "How to return them to normal, I mean?" They knew by now that a clock was responsible - Miranda still felt uneasy at the idea of a strange kind of malevolent clock, that wasn't at all like her own Time Record - but how would they find out how to stop it's affects?

"What happens if I don't have any cards that match?" Miranda asked. She should probably concentrate more on learning the rules...

It was nice to have a moment of downtime, Quarantine had been frantic. There hadn't been much time to breathe, much less spend on card game. "A lot quieter, most of the paranoid ones have left, we're just left with the exhausted ones that have nowhere else to go." It was a bit of a sore spot, letting the patients leave when they still didn't know how to fix what was wrong with them. Seemed like sending someone home when they still needed surgery. Just wasn't done. "There are quite a lot of people looking into the matter, I'm sure someone will figure out a solution, if Dr. Hussain or Dr. Henderson can't, then I'm sure the Doctor will. Together, it's impossible that they don't find a way to reverse it."

"Yeah, match four cards and then you can lay them down. And if you don't have matches, then you ask for the cards you do have for everyone else, to get the ones you need."

Silent Treatment (uh....semi-open?)

((Mostly for medical staff and other Celestial Being members. Others can tag, but depending on how well he knows them and what they want, he may not say a word in response.))

Setsuna was still an involuntary guest in Medical, as evidenced by the fact that he was currently restrained to the bed and routinely pumped full of sedatives. He had been brought there after he passed out somewhere between the hangar and his quarters. The doctors hadn't wanted to treat him this way, but with his hallucinations growing more intense (which occasionally caused him to lash out at his surroundings) and his injuries (the internal ones in particular) not exactly getting any better with all of his moving around, they really didn't see any other options.

He was surprisingly calm about it during the rare moments he was lucid, despite his not wanting to be there at all. So calm that it was hard to tell when he was awake and when he was under, as the was rarely a change in his vitals, unless he found himself neck deep in a particularly intense hallucination. Privately, though, he felt very much like the prisoner he was, and responded the way he was trained to respond.

Give up nothing.

Find a way to escape.

Even he was worried about the hallucinations. He had to wonder, had the Ohm done something to him? Or had they undone something? Either way, he needed to let his brain process this through, and the drugs weren't helping with that. He still barely understood what happened when he made mental contact with the Ohm, let alone how to explain it. He also knew that somewhere out there, there was an answer, some key that would let his messed up brain slide everything back into place. He didn't know how he knew this, but ever since becoming an Innovator, he's become aware of a lot of things. And whatever he was looking for was something he wasn't going to find while strapped to a bed.

He was waking up now, his eyes slowly opening as the drugs in his system were starting to wear off. He only had one clear thought, however, and that was trying to figure out how to get out of there.

Feldt was asleep by the bed. She had been worried about Setsuna ever since they had gotten back on board and not even the Gundams could distract her right now. She had come back to the medical bay to sit with Setsuna, watching over him as the medics tried to get him to rest so that his internal injuries could heal. The others had come and gone, none of them saying much to her, but she could tell that they were concerned about Setsuna, and for her.

It was rare that she couldn't focus on her work and all of the Gundams needed to be worked on after that battle. It had taken a lot out of them and it would take her a long time, even with help, to get all the suits repaired. She was currently asleep with her head on the edge of his bed, knowing that she was within striking distance if he did so upon waking.

[personal profile] a_mere_human 2011-05-08 08:06 pm (UTC)(link)
It took him a moment to get his bearing on where everything was, but it didn't take him long to notice that someone was there. That someone being...

...Feldt?

He frowned slightly, his heart sinking a little. Did he make her cry again?

...when has he ever made her cry before?

He thought about that odd paradox for a moment, as he watched her sleep. He then nudged her slightly, quietly letting her know he was awake.

[identity profile] pinkbridgebunny.livejournal.com 2011-05-08 08:19 pm (UTC)(link)
She stirred a bit as she was nudged. It took her a minute but she finally sat up, rubbing her eyes for a moment. She hadn't been crying, but she was still worried about him. She hadn't been able to concentrate one one task for very long without getting distracted. She had at least been able to get a full damage report done for all of the Gundams so that she could begin with the repairs, or at least get the other Meisters started on them.

"Setsuna," she said quietly. Thankful he was awake. She didn't go to get one of the medical staff, she didn't trust them, even though they were doing what they could to make sure he healed. Despite the sleep, she looked tired, but at least he was awake again.

"Feldt Grace... you fell asleep," he informed her.

Yes, he woke her up to tell her she was sleeping.

Though, as he looked at her, his eyes narrowed slightly in curiosity. Something was different about her, though he couldn't spot any obvious changes. She looked exactly as she did the last time he saw her.

"You grew your hair out again," he muttered, seemingly out of nowhere.

...when did she ever cut it to begin with?

[identity profile] pinkbridgebunny.livejournal.com 2011-05-08 08:44 pm (UTC)(link)
"I haven't cut my hair," she said, looking rather confused. She hadn't cut her hair but she thought about it. She didn't understand what he meant, but he had been saying things like that since the battle had ended. She had thought about getting a haircut, but she hadn't asked anyone to do it for her.

She was glad that he was awake and seemed to be somewhat normal again, but the way he was acting had her concerned. She didn't understand what had gone on, but she was going to be there to help him out.

"I've thought about it, but I haven't done it."

Somewhere mixed in those rare moments of lucidity is a hazy image of Tieria at his bedside. His brows are furrowed and his mouth is pressed into a hard line. He was angry— no, wait, that wasn't it... concerned?

He turns his head and mouths something to a distorted figure by the doorway, but his words are a smothered mess of syllables. It's as though he were speaking underwater.

Just before Setsuna slips under again, Tieria is seen returning his attention to the bedridden Meister, murmuring a muffled version of his name.

Setsuna...

"Yes, you have," he responded distractedly, like he was simply correcting her mistake in passing. "It suit you." That was possibly the closest thing to a compliment he had ever given, at least in regards to her looks.

"My Gundam?"
a_mere_human: (Laid out)

[personal profile] a_mere_human 2011-05-09 12:49 am (UTC)(link)
Setsuna simply looked confused, during those moments. Maybe it was because he couldn't understand what was going through the haze of drugs, but his eyes did his best to track Tieria while he was there.

When Tieria was close enough, Setsuna did something that was highly unusual for him, and tried to reach out and touch Tieria, all while muttering something about "not floating". The restraints kept him from doing so, but he tried more than once before finally drifting off again.

"There's been extensive damage done to the 00 and the 00 Raiser. I haven't began repairs, but until I finish you'll have to use Exia," that is, when he healed up. She didn't say that, but she had yet to begin repairs on any of the Gundams.

"All of the Gundams need major repairs, it's going to take a long time to finish them," she said. That part was true. It was going to take her a long time to finish the repairs, even if she had help. She really could use Ian and Linda here to help, but she doubted that they'd be around for a while.

"I'll help." Y'know, as soon as his escape plan comes to fruition.

"You should go." Wherever she was meant to be, by his side wasn't it. After all, they said their goodbyes back when...

...back when...

...

[identity profile] pinkbridgebunny.livejournal.com 2011-05-09 01:28 am (UTC)(link)
"You need to heal first," she said. She'd welcome his help as long as he wasn't going to hurt himself just by trying to stand. She didn't want to leave his side, but she knew that he would keep insisting that she leave.

She was going to have Allelujah, Tieria, and Lockon keep an eye on him while she worked on the Gundams with the Haros. At least she knew they'd listen to her.

ImageNow that he'd finally gotten out of that stupid bubble, Marco was trying to figure out where the hell he was going to go now. Rachel was still stuck in a bubble (guess they thought she was too insane, huh? But it was weird. Rachel was crazy, yeah, but it's not like she'd go psycho on everyone. Why let him out and not her?), and back at Cassie's house there was just Ax. Who Marco still didn't really know if he could trust - yeah, he was Elfangor's brother, and Marco had wanted to help him get back to his home.

Didn't mean he felt comfortable trusting the guy while he was on the fast track to being six years old again.

With his back to the door, Marco sat on one of the beds fiddling around with his omnicomm as he tried to figure out whether it was better to stay in the Med Bay or head back to Cassie's.

His hair is longer than she thought it would be. It surprises her.

She pauses in the doorway for a moment, wondering if it would be better to turn back and let him stay relatively at peace. She knows she looks different than he'll remember her - older, scarred - and she doesn't know what story she should give for being gone. The honest one, maybe. How do you apologize for being dead? For being kidnapped? Does he know about the Yeerks yet?

She considers walking and just waiting it out until he deages to ten years old and his age just solves these problems.

"Marco?"

ImageMarco froze.

He knew that voice. He'd heard it every day, right up until two years ago. But it couldn't...she was gone...

(Except Sakura had tried to tell him that his mother was here, hadn't she? And Elfangor had been here, even Marco had seen him die with his own eyes...)

For one moment he was almost too terrified to turn around, and find that he'd just been imagining things. But then he was spinning around before he could even thinking about it.

It was her His mom. Alive!

"Mom?" he whispered, staring at her like he was seeing a ghost. He was seeing a ghost. And if he hadn't already been sitting on the bed, he'd probably have fallen over.

For her it's only been a few days since she saw him, but she hasn't seen him like this, and she's wanted to take him in her arms since this whole mess started. So he doesn't get much chance to stare before she's rushed up to him and embraced him, squeezing tightly.

She's not Visser One to him anymore. She's not the rescued damsel to be protected at all costs. She's just his mother, returning.

"You didn't think I'd miss Mother's Day, did you?" she squeaks out through a choked voice.

He'd left for a few hours, long enough to riffle through the TARDIS and find a pair of lose running trousers with a draw-string waistband and elastic in the legs. The crew, especially Conner, were shrinking fast. And while the best suggestion might have been for them to get back in the plant suits, they were already uncomfortable enough. Putting them back into something so alien would only make them more nervous.

It was something he'd rather work around. This would help, at least for the moment until a more permanent solution could be found.

He scanned the room, lips quirking into a faint smile when he spotted his target. "Hello, Conner. How are you feeling?"

He smiled. "I think everyone is glad that little part is over. Now on to the real problem, figuring out how to put it back. Hopefully sooner rather than later, though you seem to be enjoying yourself." He offered the bundle of black cloth to the teenager, giving him a quick once over. He'd gotten younger again, not by much but...it was still proceeding apace. Concerning. It was on the tip of his tongue to ask Conner to keep him informed, but he hardly knew the guy. Seemed a little forward, even if he was worried. "You're still shrinking though, thought you might need these. Not the most stylish thing in the world, but they'll adjust to weight and height shifts better and more comfortably than jeans. Just one pair, was all I could find. Well, aside from the pink pair, but I thought you wouldn't be interested in those. Could get them, if you'd rather."

Superboy snorted.

"Nah, these are fine."

He took them gratefully, and then looked taken aback for a moment, as if, for once in his life, he didn't know what to say.

"Uh, thanks," he eventually settled on. "For...you know."

He was a teenager. It was hard to admit things like this.

"For helpin' me out with all this. I know it's your job, but sitting around keepin' me entertained wasn't."

"Don't count us out, either." Sakura smiled, if she didn't exactly think she was going to be suffering any sudden strikes of brilliance. Between the minds already working on this, and Stacy's databanks...

"Do you know if we're asking people to report in, or if we're actively keeping tabs on the patients who've gone out?" She looked at Rory, curious.

"Sounds simple enough. If the one you ask doesn't have the cards, that's where the 'Go Fish' comes in? Telling them to fish another card out of the stack."

"You're welcome." He smiled, waving the gift off. "It's really nothing, I didn't mind keeping you entertained at all, Conner. It's nice to be able to sit down and help one on one for once. And you helped me out too, so it works out, yeah? Just stay safe in all of this. If something goes wrong, you know where to find me. Or even if something doesn't go wrong and you just need to talk, I imagine most of us will spend the duration here or near here, and if I'm not here, you can raise me on the comms."

He had a feeling that for Conner, it would get worse before it got better, and if the normal channels of helping a kid with nowhere else to go were closed to him, he'd simply need to take responsibility of the matter himself.
