Signum wasn't quite expecting that, but she nonetheless quickly throws up a shield to protect herself and the Book, her own affinity for fire blunting the damage down to null. It's enough of a distraction, though, that her next strike at Bight is instinctive rather than precise or measured, just trying not to let him keep his balance.
