Finally some roomie tim-whoops.

It had been an arduous few days. Between the situation with people losing memories and then the people coming back from the Ohm attack, Kaya had been pretty busy. She hadn't even left the med bay, preferring to sleep here instead of back at the Outsider's hotel. She knew she had already missed quite a bit due to this: sessions with Chase, the upkeep of the hotel, and general having fun time, but priorities were priorities. Now that she had some time to herself though, she was hoping to spent some time helping her roommate decorate and at least have some general fun: Alex, after all, had brought all of those interesting black light things, why not put them to good use?

She walked up the stairs of the hotel, making a beeline straight for the hotel suite. It was one of the good things about not having to be alone: it didn't matter that Alex was a boy, at least he was SOMEONE she could talk to on a daily basis. Besides, she had those sliding doors now, so they could respect each others privacy.

But then she reached the room and opened the door, and saw all of his things were gone, specifically the laptop he prized so much, and she knew he had been podded. She closed her eyes a moment, slowly counting to ten, tears springing to her eyes.
Of course.
She took a breath, then wiped her eyes and closed the door, going back down the steps, and quietly closing the door behind her. She wanted to scream, or cry, or throw a fit at least, but none of these things would bring Alex back. So she just wandered the city park for the moment, looking tired.

"Maridian Gladespring," he said, bowing again. It was practically reflex. "Sin'dorei Blood Knight from the world of Azeroth. There's a couple other Azerothians running around the ship, so if you've heard of the world, that's where and how."

He grinned, quite pleased with the question. "Do you want the short version or the very long one? Because I can do either, I know a thing or two about history!"

"Then walk with me!" he said, grinning, as he gestured to the park as a whole. Stories are best told seated or in motion, not standing about.

"The story really begins with the quel'dorei, or a close translation would be 'high elves'. The quel'dorei split from the kaldorei, the night elves, ages ago over the use of magic. Arcane magic is a touchy thing on Azeroth. It comes from the Well of Eternity, which gets it from the Twisting Nether, and it has a tendency to make demons show up slavering for it. That is an entirely OTHER long story, though, so short version of that is that the Well of Eternity was destroyed, but a well-intentioned idiot made a new one, so the high elven people continued in their use of arcane magic. Another vial of water from the Well went to making the sacred Sunwell in the elven city of Quel'thalas... which is where the story really starts to get interesting."

He glanced at her. Still with him?

"Arcane energy is magic that's just in the air, coming from the Well of Eternity or a similar conduit," he said, sitting down to lean against a tree. "Holy magic comes from the Light, Fel magic is demonic, elemental magic comes from nature... there's all different sorts."

"Over the course of the First and Second Wars the high elves forged an alliance with the human kingdoms," he continued, folding his hands behind his head. "Our priests and even some of our paladins contributed to the efforts to repel the orc invasions onto Azeroth. But when the Third War hit, things got a little rough for us."

He keeps a perfectly calm tone, but an edge crept into it nonetheless. This wasn't just history, after all. "The fallen Prince-cum-Death Knight, Arthas Menethil, wanted to use the power of the Sunwell to resurrect Kel'thuzad the necromancer. He and his undead legions cut his way through Silvermoon, killed King Anasterian, enslaved the soul of Ranger-General Sylvanas Windrunner, and pitched the necromancer's remains into the Sunwell. That brought him back and corrupted the Sunwell past redemption. Our Prince, Kael'thas Sunstrider, did the only thing he could and destroyed it -- cutting off our source of magic energy."

He exhaled, lifting a hand to his forehead. "Arcane energy is somewhat addictive. To a people who grew up with it all their life... it was brutal. Between that and the Scourge's march, nine out of ever ten quel'dorei died."

"Most of our people renamed ourselves the Sin'dorei, 'blood elves', in honor of the fallen," he said. "Prince Kael'thas and a number of our people were betrayed by the Alliance and instead joined up with -- Wooo, another long story there, but Illidan Stormrage." He smiled a bit sheepishly; the history of Azeroth sometimes resembled a giant knotted ball of yarn more than a steady progression of events. "Working with Illidan and his allies, Kael'thas managed to reach the broken realm of Outland and learn how to drain fel energy from demons and the Twisting Nether. Then he shipped us a naaru."

Mar considered that progress!

"A naaru is a creature of music and energy," Mar said reverently. "It sounds like chimes and it looks like beauty. They're immensely powerful, and they have a connection to the Light."

He held up a fist. "Elven paladins had lost that connection to the Light when the Sunwell was destroyed... though truth be told, there weren't a lot to begin with. But with M'uru trapped and drained beneath Silvermoon, we gained access to his energy. And that is how the Blood Knights were formed."

"I don't know about make, but I know they exist," he said. "I'll show them to you in the sensorium sometime if you want. So the Blood Knights were founded, and I was one of the new recruits."

Damn I knew I was missing a tag somewhere!

"It means as soon as something huge and ugly comes along, I'll stand in front of it and DARE it to hit me while everyone else whacks at it!" he said with absolute sincerity and joy. "Bring on the foes! I've taken the worst hits Azeroth and the Twisting Nether had to offer, what can these Ohm do that Arthas or Yogg'Saron couldn't?!"

"They don't sound much worse than the Burning Legion," he said, not bothered by her criticism. "More successful though. But I bet one-on-one they're not as bad as an Old God.

"Besides," he said, stretching his arms above his head lazily, as if waking up for battle, "I'm still a paladin. And SOMEone's got to be the one taking the hits."

"Oh yeah, I met them! They seemed like nice people. Haven't seen them since I woke up, though." He shrugged, lowering his hands back behind his head. "I don't think the people from Azeroth like me very much. That's fine. The people ON Azeroth didn't like me very much either, so it would probably be weird if they started here.

"Anyway, paladins are holy warriors. Our place is mostly on the front lines, doing what needs to be done. Healing, fighting, taking hits, we can do it all... not individually and not all at once of course! Me, my specialty is taking the hits, and I'm almost as good at dealing them out. Pretty weak in the healing department, though."

"Well, don't tell them you met me, they might be mad," he said with a wink. "Waterbender sounds like a shaman, but I bet it's nothing like a shaman at all. I'll trade you demonstrations!"
