All Hail the Conquering Heroes! [OPEN]

((Takes place several hours after the conclusion of this))

They survived. More than that, it seemed as if they actually won; the Ohm had successfully been driven away from their location. The fight hadn't been easy, which one could easily tell just by looking at the Quarter as it docked in back in Stacy's Hangar.

It had a number of dents, dings, and scorch marks where the Ohm had made their presence felt. Thankfully, there was no obvious serious damage. Still, though every crew member who went out was coming back, one had to wonder about their condition, particularly since they sent ahead a request for medics to be on standby.

But now that the ship was fully docked, and the main hatch opened, it was time to find out.

Kaya could see that it took a bit of effort for Jamie to do this, and knew better than to try and help him. He was a bit stubborn about such things, and anyway, she would likely b doing the same thing. Once its done though, she inspects the arm thoroughly, flexing his skin a little bit, watching for his reaction. When she gets none, she exhales.

"Ok, looks like its just a bit of a sprain, some bruising and definitely some cuts. I can pretty much take care of that stuff now, that way we can avoid having to take you over to the medbay.

As she starts to work the water on him, she nods. "But it seems like you guys were grossly misinformed as to what you were facing. That worries me: what if it had been worse? Even the Overlord seemed a bit concerned."

"I won't say I'm fond of the idea of going to medbay," Jamie admits. Actually, 'fond' is just about the exact opposite of the word he would use to describe his feelings on going there, so he'll certainly not argue with Kaya being willing to fix him up now.

The expression on his face, however, has very little to do with medbay and quite a lot more to do with the subject she's brought up. "We'd not have survived it," he says, bluntly. "The whole thing's suspicious, if ye ask me. Either it was some sort of test...or a trap."

[identity profile] kaya-waterwave.livejournal.com 2011-05-06 09:51 am (UTC)(link)
"Who's fond of going to the med bay anyway?" Kaya asked, chuckling. "I'm not fond of being there when I'm injured either. The reason I go is because I work there! Before you got here, you wouldn't believe the kind of sass I was getting, just to prevent trouble. Honestly, I think I would just prefer to get this war with the Ohm over with. Enough crazy things happen here that aren't Ohm related!"

Which, to her irritation, was becoming more of a problem. "Billy mentioned this all seemed to fall into disarray. I'd love to just believe its a coincidence, but just as THIS happened, another thing happened on the ship. It just seems too convenient. One of the reasons I'm here now is so we don't have more people in med bay than we need."

And she started on the shoulder, tracing her fingertips over the top of the joint.

"Do ye mean the whole thing with the memory loss and the changed appearance?" That must be it...unless there's something else that's happened, which wouldn't completely surprise Jamie. He nods. "I know a wee bit about what's going on there, but how would that be tied into what happened with the Ohm?"

A faint frown develops on his his face as he thinks about the situation. He'd be tempted to stroke his chin to help there, but the hand he wants to use for it currently on the side Katara's working on, which would make it a bit awkward. Still, he flexes his fingers for a moment, working through that impulse to do so anyway.

"I mean, it doesn't make sense. If ye were to use that as something to weaken us before drawing us into a trap, why do it now? Why not wait a while longer until it's spread through more of the crew?"

[identity profile] kaya-waterwave.livejournal.com 2011-05-07 02:32 pm (UTC)(link)
"Yes," Kaya said. "I know the two aren't related, but what if they were? What if the Ohm were to try and attack us while we were trying to contain some sort of widespread thing, like this deaging thing? The worst of it was that the people afflicted didn't even know it."

She shrugged. "Well, think about it: is there anyway you could guarantee it WOULD affect all of the crew? It could probably cripple us pretty badly, but there are so many different lifeforms here, there's no way you could get us all. But it still should be something we're prepared for anyway."

Having forgotten all about his shoulder for the moment, Jamie focuses on the task at hand. "But how do ye prepare for that sort of thing? This just started happening. Nobody knows what's going on apart from people seem to be getting younger."

He shakes his head, looking mildly frustrated. "And we've no way of knowing that it won't, eventually. So if ye put a plan in place to cope, you've got to figure it out based on the worst case scenario. And there's a point where you'll not be able to get a plan to be effective, just based on lack of people to carry it out."

[identity profile] kaya-waterwave.livejournal.com 2011-05-09 10:21 am (UTC)(link)
"WE could probably start by getting better intel on the planets that we visit," Kaya said. "Not that I think that'll always work, but there's something to be said about making sure we're prepared to observe other people's customs, as well as knowing what to stay away from. With something like this, the Ohm would just need to start introducing something chaotic, and then start to pick us off. Can you imagine how easy it would be to get to us then?"

The thought of it just gave her the shivers. "I just hope if that time every does come, we'll be able to think of a plan of action that can counteract whatever is happening. I guess that's one of the benefits of having superheroes and things on the ship, but we've been lucky so far: no major deaths yet, caused by an actual attack on the ship. Who knows when that will run out?"

"Aye, if we can get the information," Jamie says, somewhat gloomily. "Sometimes Stacy doesn't provide much of that at all." And sometimes things come up later that seemingly have nothing to do with what they were supposed to do in the first place. "No, we've just got to do what we can, where we can, and hope we make it through."

It's not too much different than what he's been through in the past, when he thinks about it. "At least we've a lot of clever people awake who are able to think of things that can help if something does go wrong."

It's something, at least.

"I've noticed," Kaya said, looking glum. "And in that case, I feel like we're just chasing our tails most of the time. What's the point of being this super strong crew if all of the information we obtain are only pieces of an even bigger part we know nothing about? And then we get sent on missions where we are potentially risking our lives, or forced to do something strange."

When WOULD they get to the bottom of that map situation anyway?

"You're thinking of the Doctor, aren't you? The first person that comes to mind for me would be Billy: this is the kind of thing that would have him researching the library, I think."

She took her hand off his shoulder. "How do you feel now?"
bonnypiperlad: (lookythere)

[personal profile] bonnypiperlad 2011-05-11 05:22 am (UTC)(link)
Of course Jamie's thinking of the Doctor, and the look on his face makes that plain enough, but he answers anyway. "Aye, of course. The Doctor's the most clever person I know. Billy's nearly as clever as he is, though."

Between the two of them, they could come up with quite a lot, he thinks. When Kaya lifts her hand off his shoulder, he automatically goes to lift his arm. It's still a little sore, but not nearly as painful as it has been. Carefully, he starts to test the range of motion, relieved to find it to be what it was before the fight.

"It's a wee bit sore, but much better. Thank ye, Kaya. What would I do without you?"

Forgive my sleep deprived state!

"We'll need quite a few clever people for what will happen later," Kaya said. "I'm sure of it. For now, I just want to make sure that we're prepared in any way that we can be. Really, I have to go meet the Doctor. I only met one, once, but he seemed like a pretty quirky guy."

She smiled as Jamie tested his arm out, and was quick to answer his question. "You'd probably get into less arguments abut your kilt and men and women," she said. "But I wouldn't have it any other way, honestly."

bonnypiperlad: (So...)

Quite alright!

[personal profile] bonnypiperlad 2011-05-13 11:10 pm (UTC)(link)
"That's one way of putting it," admits Jamie. Quirky could definitely be used to describe the Time Lord, even once you get to know him. "Aye. It's difficult to get him to stay in one place long enough, though. You'll meet him sometime, I'm sure."

Now that the arm's fixed, Jamie starts to wriggle back into the top part of the plantsuit. "Oh, I don't know about that," he says teasingly, then, more seriously, "I'd not have it any other way, either."

A quick glance around, though, and he realizes that he should let her get back to the others. "Look, I'll get out of your way, so ye can check on everyone. But remind me, once everything's settled, and I'll see what I can do about getting ye to meet the Doctor, aye?"

She giggled. "I missed our fights, to be honest. But I'll definitely remind you about meeting the Doctor. Most of the last few days have been pretty heavy: I could use a little bit of joy."

Heck, right now? She could really use Matt. She hoped he was ok.

"And take care of that shoulder!" She said to him.

So it's a plan, as long as they can manage it, and Jamie smiles. In the meantime, though, he's going to go check on the other Rangers, and possibly see about taking care of a few other things. He lifts a hand to wave to her - but uses the good arm just to be on the safe side.

"Aye, I will. I'll talk to ye later, then."
