She's Alive [Open]
Anyone wandering into the media library this morning would find a somewhat unfamiliar looking young woman (about eighteen, possibly nineteen) sitting in front of the equipment, head tilted back and eyes closed as she listened to some good, old-fashioned rock and roll. She looks fit, in excellent physical condition and seems cheerful enough. She has one leg folded over the opposite knee, toe tapping as she keeps time with the music. Yeah, she's discovered just how awesome music from twentieth century Earth is and she's enjoying it.
Give her a minute and she'll probably notice whoever wanders in after her.

He takes a seat on a nearby fleshy chair. "Remembering home?" After all, she looks human; it's entirely possible she's from some version of Earth.

She waves a handi n the general direction of the machinery.
"More like I'm just relaxing."
no subject
"Sorry, I thought you might be a fellow refugee from Earth." He pauses for a moment to listen to the music she's chosen. He doesn't recognize this song; sadly, only some of them made it to 3005 A.D. without being buried by time, but he certainly recognizes the style. "I come here fairly often, but I don't think we've ever met. Kanoe Zouichi."
He extends a hand; he's not sure whether her world has handshakes, but it seems like a common enough custom aboard the ship.
no subject
Yeah, she doesn't really get the whole reverse name thing yet.
no subject
His handshake is firm, but it's obviously a gesture he's not entirely used to.
"Did you arrive here during the last pod release?"

oh god, Karis D:
sob.
noooooo

It's empty except for a young woman. Human, by the looks of her. He doesn't recall seeing her around. Big ship, though, so it does make sense he hasn't seen every single crew member; new; old; or hasn't yet made up their mind. The Doctor tucks away the Otter Locater he'd pulled out, more to check it's working at all than anything else, and pops inside the Media Library. The Doctor joins her (although he can't resist fiddling with the equipment either -- some people have a case of sticky fingers? He has fiddly hands. Very fiddly hands. It's a curse).
"Interesting choice in music," he says, fiddling with a bit of tubing and glancing over at the girl.
And really, she is a girl. Even if she was eighty in human years, she'd still be a girl to him. It's one of those funny things about the human species's short life spans.

"I need to take what I can get, Doc. It's not exactly home or familiar, but it's good stuff."
And then there's the voice. Like Karis', but without the dry, dead rasp. And younger, much younger, more energetic.
no subject
It's the fact she's not dead that throws him off.
"Karis?" he peers at her, leaning forward. That's definitely not very dead and he has to say, she really should decide on one or the other.

no subject
He means that fondly. But he’s not used to seeing her with her bones properly hidden and her teeth are humanly blunt and not much good for looking even remotely threatening.

It's a human, true. But they're not all bad. At least they weren't, back in his day.
"But could you turn it down a bit? I'm trying to get some reading done."
no subject
It's a good-natured retort, but she turns it down.
no subject
Wait a moment.
"I don't believe we've met."

"Karis? Is that you?" His world view has been shattered. What is this he doesn't even. The Sin'dorei steps forward, reaching out to touch a hand to her hair before he can check the movement.
"By the Sunwell. . . ."

"Uh, do I know you?" he asks, not bothering to apologize for talking over her music.
no subject
Karis laughs. She's just joking with him.
"Whatcha got there?"
no subject
He sits down across from her - no point is keeping weight any more on his bad foot than necessary - and hands her the media pad. "Legend of Drunken Master. Jackie Chan. Pretty fun movie. And this'd be, what...Aerosmith?"
no subject
"I've sorta been in a foul mood since I came out of the pods. Sorry if I ragged on you too hard earlier," Karis shrugs, "And yeah, I think so. I'm just going through whatever I can find right now."
no subject
Honestly, he's less weirded out by her sudden change in appearance than he is by her better mood. He shrugs back. "You were ragging on me? I didn't notice." Which isn't true, but he never held it against her.
"So if you were in such a bad mood, why the better one now? Besides the new hairdo."

And, Karis wasn't using annoying nicknames. Kang sat down next to her, "I see you discovered Styx."
no subject
"Hell, I discovered this music. Way better then some of the stuff we've got at home."
She gives him a little jab in the shoulder. "How're you doing, big guy?"
no subject
The jab was a bit more familiar. "As good as can be. There's been a few... weird things happening around the ship." He paused. "Well, more weird than usual."
